As a part of Black Metal History Month, we will be looking back at some essential black metal albums that any fan should be listening to. Here is a look at two essential Emperor albums. When I first listened to Black Metal, I tried out several of the original "inner circle" bands to see if ...
Jeff Loomis has been teasing a new solo album since July of last year, with increasingly juicy bits of information slipping out all the time - like the fact that it will feature guest appearances from multiple former Megadeth guitarists (namely, Marty Friedman and Chris Poland), PLUS Tony MacAlpine, PLUS, oh yeah, some dude named [...]
It's pretty cool that we live in a time where it's once again cool to be able to play your instrument, like, really well. Even five years ago a dude like ex-Nevermore guitar god Jeff Loomis would never have had a chance for his instrumental shred solo album to be celebrated in the media; shit, [...]

Words: Saam Das Not much has been said about Emperor Yes yet, the new project from Adam Betts of Three Trapped Tigers , Ash Gardner who has recorded the likes of Noah & The Whale and Mumford & Sons , and Hugo Sheppard (formerly of metal outfit To-mera ). The mish mash of influences has given birth to a synth-heavy, experimental pop sound that sounds a bit like the second [...]
Ihsahn has only performed once in North America thus far - at this year's ProgPower Festival - which means that most of us who live in these parts have never had the opportunity to see the man perform his awesome, awesome solo work live in the flesh. So hoo-ray for the below video, which is [...]
With a nomination for this year's Choice Music Prize for their debut album, Hither Thither , an appearance at the prestigious SXSW showcase festival in Austin, Texas, and a string of stunning performances with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra under their belt, O Emperor are a band who can put 2011 down as a big success. To close their great year, the band have announced three final dates in venues across Ireland, which will see them treat fans to material from their forthcoming second studio album. The Waterford quintet will take to the stage [...]
Emperor X, take me away! Former high school science teacher Chad Matheny returns with Western Teleport, a big frickin' record that's not only his Bar/None debut but perhaps his best album to date. Opening with the Fleetwood Mac-ish groove of "Erica Western Teleport", the record develops in numerous unexpected (well, unexpected from virtually anyone besides Matheny) ways, as it drifts from the suburban dread of "Sig Alert", into the lo-fi masterpiece "A Violent Translation Of The Concordia Headscarp" and ends...

It's fitting that during the week O Emperor begin recording their second album that they are this week's PLAY iRISH artist. Their single from last year [or maybe 2009] Po will be played every day on the Jon Richards show on Galway Bay FM. Listen to Po here: O Emperor - Po by DamianChennells Tour [...]

der amerikanische musiker emperor x ist berüchtigt als ein musikalischer "mad scientist." nicht zuletzt wegen seiner hausgemachten soundeffekte ...

This is one of those quirky songs that are so weird, off-beat and loveable you might want to hate it, just because it's so easy to be loved in that quirky-indie-song way. I initially thought I might write it off, until I got to the brazenly earnest chorus, which is where everything comes snapping into focus in this song so well that it's really preposterous to ignore. Relatable, catchy and sad all at once, Emperor X made himself a staple in about 15 seconds. Emperor X is the solo project of a guy named [...]
Not Seth Putnam One mind-blowing aspect of Devin Townsend's Deconstruction album is its coterie of guest personnel. A who's-who of pivotal screamers, the list includes that awesome dude from Gojira, legendary super-stud Ihsahn, and extreme metal's loveliest alto, Tommy Rogers from Between The Buried And Me. And though Townsend rightly rushes to downplay the distraction/sketchy [...]

Roll into the weekend with this brand new dubstep track from French producer, K12. The track was released hours ago and will be available for Download on 10/19 (don't worry, we'll hit you with the link once it becomes available). If you gave me a maximum of two phrases to best describe this dubstep track, I would probably go with childish and feel-good. Have a great weekend and Enjoy! K12: Facebook | MYSPACE | YOUTUBE

More bands need to get into the sewn vest industry.
Chad Matheny, the quasi-local , geocaching rubber band spewing figurehead of Emperor X is performing at the Biliken Club on Friday (tomorrow) with So Many Dynamos. We spoke with Chad about his f... Continue reading "Emperor X On Stock Responses And Performative Marketing" >

Underground pop provocateur Emperor X sure does make it interesting. The high school science teacher-turned-lo-fi explorer, born Chad Matheny, has become known for his pop-up shows and turning the discovery of his music into a geocaching adventure as much as his catchy, mind-bending folk narratives. His latest album, "Western Teleport," is out Tuesday on Bar/None Records , and apparently if you have the coordinates, there's more than what's just on the record. Which is plenty, by the way, especially if you can keep up with Matheny's stream-of-consciousness chronicles inspired by life in and around his [...]
