LightGuides released their mini-album 'Samba Samba Samba' earlier this month on Alcopop Records. We caught up with drummer Dave to discuss the 'veggie challenge', the healthy state of Scottish music and that elusive Jay-Z and Beethoven collaboration. And it goes a little like this: Cougar Microbes: What time did you wake up today? Was it out [...]

Until just recently I had decided that I was now too old to go to music festivals, the thought of waking up in a tent just really didn't appeal to me anymore. In short I was starting to think along the same lines as this grumpy old sod . However, when Randolph's Leap offered me one of their 'plus ones' for this years Wickerman Festival, I found myself changing my mind somewhat. I used to be the kind of person who looked to see who the headliners would be, this time round though I found myself looking at the [...]

Yes that is my cheesy mug up there, and yes I am ever so slightly tipsy. The photo was taken at last years Bloggers Delight night at the Flying Duck for Pin Up Nights. It wasn't my first foray into 'spinning tunes', however, it was the first time that I did it as Peenko. From what I can remember of the night it was really good fun, I don't recall making too many mistakes aside from dropping my pint. It was just after the first ever Ayetunes vs Peenko gig, so I had already had a few sherbets to calm [...]

I am going to start this post by apologising to anyone who might be waiting for a reply email from me. Normally I am pretty on top of my inbox, but this weekend I have succumbed to the dreaded man flu, so much of today has been spent lying on the couch feeling sorry for myself. It's pretty safe t say that today hasn't been the best of days. Thanks to me overdosing on Lemsip I have 'manned up' and will stop moaning so I can get this post done. I did say recently that there would be some [...]
When I sent emails out to all of last year's Scots Way-Hay artists I honestly only expected to get a handful of replies back. How wrong I was. It turned out that most bands were pretty keen to let you all know what's been tickling their fancy in 2010. So in the last of my [...]

Over the next fortnight, one of Glasgows most respected and well known music venues, King Tuts Wah Wah Hut is holding a series of gigs known as the "New Years Revolution". Basically it's the cream of Scottish music talent crammed into 14 nights. It begins tonight... MP3: Dead Sea Souls - My Problem MP3: Penguins Kills Polar Bears - In Everything MP3: Tango In The Attic - Sketch By Quentin Blake MP3: GoGoBot - The Bulldog And [...]

When I sent emails out to all of this years Scots Way-Hay artists I honestly only expected to get a handful of replies back. How wrong I was, it turned out that most bands were pretty keen to let you all know what's been tickling their fancy in 2010. So in the last of my series of posts I give you the favourite albums of 2010 for Ardentjohn, Endor, French Wives, Lorraine McCauley and Over the Wall..... Blud Rins Cauld by John Knox Sex [...]
I have spent the past hour trying to write this introduction piece because I stupidly decided that it would be easy enough to come up with something half way decent (i.e. passable) whilst also trying to entertain a screaming baby. Not that I imagine that the blurb that I write at the start of this [...]

I have spent the past hour trying to write this introduction piece, I stupidly decided that it would be easy enough to come up with something half way decent (i.e. passable) whilst also trying to entertain a screaming baby. Not that I imagine that the blurb that I write at the start of this feature matters to you all that much, I am sure you don't come on here expecting to read anything anywhere near sensible from me. In case you hadn't already worked it out, you're probably best to skip my ramblings and go straight to the band answers. [...]
This was the second show that I did for Fresh Air, joining me that week I had Boab from Campfires in Winter in to co-host/try and keep me in check. Not sure if he fully managed it or not though! On the plus side we did get to play loads of great music, including two exclusives (at that time) from Come On Gang! and the mysterious Let's Talk About Trees. The banter may well be pish, but the tunes are top notch! Tracks Played 1. Come On Gang! - Fortune [...]

Well this week I shall mostly be entertaining my parents, who are taking the opportunity to inspect Toad Hall as a suitable place for the raising of yet-to-be-considered grandchildren. There may yet be some opportunity for a spot of truancy however, as I am DJing at the Charity Baw on Saturday. I wish I actually had the right accent to say that properly, but with my accent saying things like "baws" , or the far better "yer maw's got baws and yer da' likes it" just sounds stupid unfortunately. It's the biggest chore of living [...]

Sorry for the silence over the last couple of days. Yesterday we recorded the Samamidon Toad Session, which took a while and generally distracted me from the business of writing the blog, so I'm afraid this weekly update is a day late. Which you are just going to have to fucking live with. I'd almost say that there really wasn't much on in Edinburgh this week, but what I would really mean is that there is not much high-profile stuff going on in Edinburgh this week. There are, actually, some very good gigs to be [...]
