A series of global incidents of paranormal happenings began to infiltrate the media a few months ago. The internet was rife with reports about these chillingly violent acts. A spate of rumours erupted on blogs and forums pointing towards a new and highly involving A.R.G. where people would converse with a shadowy agency, known as 'I', and receive word of when they would be looked upon and judged. A grand unveiling was set up for a significant date with record amounts of people transfixed by every available clue and tidbit of evidence about 'I'. But when that time passed and [...]

A carload of hopeful explorers rolled out of the bubble that is Echo Park shortly after noon yesterday. It was Ilya's birthday, and his goal was to spend the day in the desert. For two hours we traveled along I-10 and Rte-62. We chatted, we sang Superdrag and Big Star songs as ordinary signs of civilization began to fade. Strip malls and multiple-story buildings turned into dusty expanses and small shops or warehouses. We reached Joshua Tree exactly two hours after the trip began. Our first order of business was to find an Internet Cafe so Ilya could [...]

You know what I don't see enough in movies? Little kids dying. If the Terminator movies taught me anything growing up, it's that a high body count equals success. I can't even comprehend the influence the first two had on my childhood. It's not like I grew up to be a robot totally lacking sympathy for other humans (okay, maybe I lack sympathy for other humans), but I'll never forget the amount of violence I witnessed at a young age. I learned to fear futuristic robots (except for the ones that are programmed to [...]

my appreciation of Ennio Morricone's work goes way back. two of my favorite films, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and The Mission, were scored by signore morricone . recently scored a nice compilation of some of his more obscure work (i.e. hard to find Italian films) put out by a choice odd-ball independent label here in the states. the compilation: Crime and Dissonance , the label: Ipecac Recordings, the song: Giorno Di Notte, the year: 1971, the [...]

Director Quentin Tarantino has never claimed to be a wholly original auteur. His films have always drawn from a particular film (geek) genre, and he litters scenes with homages to his favorite cinematic moments, utilizing both sight and sound. Reservoir Dogs was a kiss to Hong Kong crime dramas, Pulp Fiction to film noir (and a pastiche of classic American cinema,) Jackie Brown to blaxpoitation, and the Kill Bill films paid homage to spaghetti [...]

I wanted to spread a little cinematic music related butter all over SDM, i've been wanting to do it for a few weeks now, but i sorta got sidetracked (please see my previous post). So anyway, I understand how broad this post COULD be, so i decided not to over do it and spend 10 hours putting all of my favorite movie related/themed/titled eggs into one basket, so i just narrowed it down to a few that i flipped out real quick. I thought it best not to spend too much time posting movie scores, you know...pieces that would take [...]
Ennio Morricone: Le Casse (Générique) Rodéo Thème d'Amour [1971] from the soundtrack to the film Le Casse starring Jean-Paul Belmondo, Dyan Cannon, and Omar Sharif directed by Henri Verneuil I got this record about a year ago at the Clignancourt flea market. Seeing Ennio do his spiel at the Oscars made me dig it out again and re-listen. For me there's something psychedelic about this kind of muzak-y sound, and it often takes me back to [...]

Ennio Morricone , one of the world's greatest and most prolific film composers, picked up an honorary Oscar at the last Academy Awards. Clint Eastwood's introduction was doddering, and the montage of "famous Morricone moments" could have been better (they didn't even use the original music from the films in some cases!), but the gesture was appreciated and long overdue. "I have received so many beautiful, incredible prizes, but there was a little hole … maybe the Oscar fills the hole ." Here's 17 tracks from the man they [...]

While Ennio Morricone did receive an honorary Oscar, honoring his work for over 400 film scores , the presentation of his work left a lot to be desired. This slight had me feeling the (obsessive) need to go back and chronologize songs from all his movies that I could find (ie. digitally avaiable.) As a result, I present to you this playlist of his work from nearly one hundred films. Playlist: Ennio Morricone So what got me all hot and bothered [...]
Another week begins. May it bring success and riches to you all. I, on the other hand, have already had to deal with a cease and desist e-mail from company pertaining to a recent audio track I decided to share. I think I've complied to the fullest extent possible, but I haven't received any confirmation since informing them of my commitment to resolve the issue. I won't reprint the letter (that would be classless...although, other websites have), but it was pretty standard, except for the fact it came from an AOL account and was written in [...]

* Ennio Morricone : Il Vizio D'Uccidere (3.5 mb) | Per Un Pugno Di Dollari (2.5 mb) | Quasi Morto (2.5 mb) From A Few Dollars More : BMG Since John Zorn and soundtracks have been on my mind, I decided to post some tracks from the master himself, Mr. Ennio Morricone . Although he started out as a composer of modern classical works, in 1961, Ennio Morricone started writing scores for movies and tv programs. He worked [...]
I just found out I'm seeing Ennio Morricone tomorrow night! I'd made plans to attend this show last year, but didn't have actual tickets until about 20 minutes ago. Strangely enough, I was still able to get 12th row center orchestra seats, but then again I don't know many people who are willing to pay $200+ just to see a concert. Well unless it's Pearl Jam or Madonna, then the sky seems to be the limit. If you can attend the concert this Saturday at Radio City Music Hall, I highly recommend it. If you're [...]

DOWNLOAD: Ennio Morricone - America (MP3) Ennio working on the Morrissey album ( VIA ) The 79th annual Academy Awards nominations have been announced . Composer Ennio Morricone is receiving an honorary award. The man has composed 528 movie soundtracks . Of those 528, he's been nominated 5 times for Malena, Bugsy, The Untouchables, The Mission and Days of Heaven. He never won, so it's nice to see him get something. [...]

I recommended Malick's "Days of Heaven" as one of the first posts on Robosexual, when I was attempting to cover music, film, games, books, and everything else under the sun. It's an amazing movie, and it is accompanied by a beautiful soundtrack, done by none other than the man himself, Ennio Morricone. The sound is very evocative of the movie, especially for the scenes which are marked by a lack of dialogue and only scored. Morricone's trademark palette of strings, horns, and guitar is in full effect here, but it's much more subdued than, [...]
