I wasn't going to do a Halloween mix but seeing as this is an Irish festival which has gone global it seems only right to share some spooky songs with a loose Halloween connection! The Cranberries - Zombie: Zombie Live by The Cranberries The Brad Pitt Light Orchestra - Devil & Me: 03 Devil & Me by bplo [...]
In honour of the fact that The Purple Sessions have found a new home in Boyles of Slane I'm going to post a video a day from the extensive list of videos uploaded onto YouTube over the last three years: http://www.youtube.com/MeAcous ticSessions Another favourite of mine is this epic folk rock tune from Entheos called 6 Day Gone: http://breakingtunes.com/enthe os

This is a great event happening in The Mercantile this coming Saturday. All 5 bands are excellent and there's lots of prizes to be won. Having been in The Mercantile last week I can only imagine the gig on Saturday will be jammers and a great night will be had by all. The band I'm most looking to seeing is Cork's 'Time is a Thief'. Here's a song from their first release called Crazy Moon. [...]

Nope The Top 50 isn't the name of a new band although it's not the worse name for a band! It's the time of the year where for aesthetic purposes I list my top 50 Irish artists .... at the moment ... living in Ireland ..... who have released a single/album ..... and who pay me backhanders! Over the next 2 weeks [Monday - Friday] I'll be working up the list five acts at a time and telling the world why each [...]

We Go Go can't make Thursday but this is a superb line-up for 'Live at Boyles' See ya there? Here's the video for Keith Mullin's current single:
A bit of advanced notice but I'm delighted with the following line-ups at our sessions nights in Boyles, Slane. May 6th SJ McArdle Entheos Keith Mullins We Go Go June 24th Odi Hamlet Sweeney Eoin Glackin Minty and the Freshman
This week [Monday - Friday] I'm counting down my Top 50 artists in my humble opinion at this moment in time. The artists are to have released an album/ep or played a gig since Jan 2009 in order to qualify for the list. 41. A Plastic Rose The band from equal parts Sligo and Belfast have been featured many times already this year on the blog. Their alternative rock sound coupled with the vocal harmonies of the two singers mean A Plastic Rose is essential listening. [...]

Entheos released their debut album last year but I feel it's appropriate to review the album ahead of their March 20th Kila support slot in Caffery's Oldcastle and their May 6th headline slot at 'Live At Boyles'. The most striking feature of Entheos is Brian's quality grungy vocals. These vocals along with the celtic acoustic rock sound makes Entheos a band which stands alone genre-wise. In the past I've compared the band to a modern Horslips. III contains ten quality tracks. In Each Other's Arms is a really good love song. [...]
The Purple Sessions is a monthly night in The Punt Bar in Drogheda which is well supported by the locals. Their sessions offer acts the opportunity to get their session recorded in high quality and posted on their excellent YouTube page; http://www.youtube.com/user/Me AcousticSessions Here are some of the best acts to have performed in The Purple Sessions this year. Vitruvius Pearse McGloughlin Entheos

It does seem in Ireland that this year's Halloween is being celebrated like never before and I'm loving it. Here's an Irish Halloween mixtape! Some of the tunes are technically not written about Halloween but are included for atmospheric qualities. 1. And So I Watch You From Afar - Set Guitars To Kill 2. Ham Sandwich - Running Up That Hill [Live] 3. Pearse McGloughlin [...]

The 'Rock D Lough' gig went really well last night in Ryans of Gormalough, Slane. Headliner Damien Dempsey was in fine sing-song form with all his best tunes present in the set-list such as Negaive Vibes, Apple of my Eye, Colony and Rocky Road to Dublin. The support bill also impressed the large crowd. Peadar Farrelly started the night on the main stage in fine form. Ruairi Coogan [pictured] was playing with a full band showed massive progress in the quality of his songs and live performance. There [...]

Another reminder about this gig tomorrow night: Entheos perform in the Cobblestone in Smithfield Square in Dublin this Saturday August 8th. They are headlining the 'Tumbleweed Love Sessions' on Saturday night, with Mark Conway playing as well, and one other act to be confirmed. Admission is €8 and doors are at nine, we will be on at around 11pm. Here is an epic love song from Entheos' debut album called 'In Each Other's Arms' and sums up what Entheos are about. It's a grungy folk tune that sounds amazing live. [...]

Melophobia performed a great gig last night to a packed audience in Whelans. As with most album launchs the debut was played in full to a crowd who seemed to know the words of the majority of tunes already! The official video for their single 'In The Firing Line' was shown before the band made the best entrance I have ever seen for a new band. Each member appeared separately and kicked into their part of the opening track. If I were this band's manager I'd invest heavily to get their music out there. The [...]
I'll be at this for sure. Two great Irish bands and a free album for just €10 of your hard earned cash! Melophobia release their debut Album, "Who Will Remain Standing?". Support from Entheos. Doors - 8pm Price - €10 inc. free copy of Album! Get there early for support act Entheos!
If you are in the Navan area next Friday you could do much worst than check out The Lost Brothers singing in harmony in the intimate venue of 'The Backroom' at the Lantern Bar. http://www.myspace.com/thelost brothersmusic http://www.thebackroomsessions .com/ This is a nice tune on the banks of a lake called "Last Day on the Job": I seem to be mentioning the Nialler9 blog alot these days but [...]
