Photography by purpleplaid "Great is the human who has not lost his childlike heart." - Menicus This week ended up being about fulfilling childhood memories, letting my childlike spirit fly round and having fun. It was Canadian Music Week in Toronto but I only saw two shows at CMW as I am really not a fan of this festival. The only acts I felt worthwhile seeing, I had already seen throughout the year, in better venues with better crowds and totally cheaper. I did catch Rich Aucoin [...]
Hailing from Montreal, D'eon (Chris Deon) drops his debut album 'Palinopsia' on well-regarded Los Angeles label Hippos in Tanks, and adds to their polished catalogue with his own brand of modern funk. Part future soul, part retro synth-boogie, it's an attempt to sound very 'now' – sitting somewhere between many genres but never in one. It all kicks off with a promising start as the textured chords of 'Almost Out of Time' emerge and entice you in. Precise beats, Detroit style pads and an simple yet effective vocal follow to craft a nocturnal beatdown excursion that feels like [...]
Rafael Frost is one of those names that has popped up pretty consistently over the years. A mainstay at Ferry Corsten's Flashover Recordings, Frost's name has been known to come up on a remix album here or a compilation there. One thing is for sure-the guy never ceases to impress me. The last time I brought Frost up on the site, I was doing a review on Corsten's recent studio mix, Once Upon A Night Vol. 2 , which featured his track We Were . It was no doubt one of the [...]
Minimal Man brings together two artists featured previously on Acid Ted - Peter Ford (see Baby Ford ) and Ian Loveday (see Eon ) who sadly died in June this year at St Mary's Hospital, London from complications with pneumonia. Minimal Man started in 1993 on Guerila Records. This was an odd choice, given that neither Peter or Ian had any connection to the Progressive House sound that had made Gureilla's reputation by 1992. Their Minimal Man EP (1993) is a good but not great piece of work. It doesn't [...]
Sad news on the rave front... Legendary producer Ian Loveday a.k.a. EON passed away Wednesday, June 17th. One of the first producers to gain popularity in the late '80's & early 90's with rave anthems like "Spice" and "Fear: The Mind Killer." so raise those glow sticks up high one last time and let that spice FLOW. Eon - "Spice (original with notes)" | download spread the love:
Ian Loveday AKA Eon, one of the early Rave superstars (i.e. before there were rave superstars - are there rave superstars - etc) has died . Had some fun times with Eon ; out here in the wilds, hearing him through bucket bins hidden in the trees, through tinny car stereos, where the bass couldn't flow and you were just left with the samples and the tunes and the bleeps. Maybe this is just the beginning; the old MDMA soaked ravers starting to bow out as their neurons twist and their [...]
Eon is Ian B. Loveday, who does a nice line in early 1990s dark electro. I thought it was a collaboration with J Saul Kane of Depth Charge fame. But it turns out he only co-produced the early Eon releases. Eon was active from the end of the 1980s until the mid-1990s. I thought he had given up. But he seems to have made a sporadic return since the turn of the millennium. Eon started his recording career in 1987 while dj'ing [...]

D'Eon – Palinopsia
LA-based label Hippos In Tanks released a few of 2010's more interesting releases, with records by Games, Gatekeeper and White Car all arriving within a few months of each other. They look like they're about to make an even bigger splash in 2011, with releases on the way from Sleep-Over, Autre Ne Veut and Hype Williams all scheduled for the next few months. None of these records share a particular style, genre or outlook, though they all seem to blend vintage or nostalgic references with future pop approaches with particularly unique results. [...]

METAL LABELS SIGN METAL BANDS
Seems like there's been a spate of significant band signings over the last week in the world of metal. Despite all the industry's woes, it's good to know that labels are still investing in bands. But that begs the question... what kind of deals are these bands getting? Do their deals have advances? Do they [...]

Spandau Homies
So no one wants to comment on the brilliance of Fireballet ? Geez, I thought you guys were cool. What, you're too good to hear a 19-minute prog-rock version of "Night On Bald Mountain?" Pussies. If you guys keep this up I just might...um...complain about it next time. EON- The Spice Must Flow 1991
obituary[Source:whenthathelico ptercomes.blogspot.com]Mark Moore rang me yesterday with bad news. His dear friend – our own dear friend – Ian Loveday had died earlier that day, at St Mary's Hospital in London, due to complications with a sudden bout of pneumonia. Ian leaves his partner, Jo Christophe, parents and a sister plus a family of friends and admirers built up and nurtured over the years

Don't get scared now!
Eon - Fear (Prologue + Original Mix With Bats) The seed of an idea, planted just the other day , for a season of Piano Anthems on Dilated Choonz is currently blossoming in my mind and I'm getting on the case with ripping a few choice tracks. I have a feeling it's probably going to be a one-man show, but I'd love it if the rest of the DC crew want to get involved too. In the meantime, however, here's a little more [...]

When facing your enemy you have to aim for his weakest point.
I did say I was originally intending a few words about EON & Depth Charge, then I was overwhelmed by work issues and kind of put it on the back burner for a while, but someone did remind me I was going to do so. Ahem. Ahhrrmm. I came initially to the worlds of the aforementioned via Spice, a Dune sampling bleep fest. Along the way J. Saul Kane seemed to get custody of the movie sampling stuff and EON with the bleeps and the serious techno. Eon went on to work with Baby [...]
