Below, five ways to check out local music this weekend. Total Trash Fest 3 continues this week with a series of shows in spaces around Oakland, with names like The Wrong Words , Spencey Dude and The Doodles , and The Mantles offering plenty of great local representation. New Erase Errata single for the tracks "Damaged" and "Ouija Boarded." Stream the a-side below, and grab the vinyl via Kill Rock Stars . MP3: Erase Errata- Damaged / via / -

As you may have seen here or here or here or here , Erase Errata is back with a new 73. Although you would not be able to tell if you checked their "fantastic" webpage or the myspace page that is "not run by ee". They are still making postpunk music, but this time the sound is less jagged. Listen. Downloadable: Damaged (mp3) Buy the Damaged b/w Ouija Boarding 73 @ Buy Olympia . Jenny Hoyston's [...]

New single in four years from San Franisco's Erase Errata . Enjoy Damaged . via stereogum

The Erase Errata some of you may have known is no longer in the building. "Damaged", the new 7-inch track they dropped this week, doesn't seem to bear much relation to the frenetic, jagged rock they cut their name on. Gone are any inflections of no wave dissonance, alien melodies, guitar god finger tricks. Instead, say hello to all the mid-oughts dance punk inflections Erase Errata managed to avoid the first time around. But who cares. Erase Errata have a new song! I really love this band, ...

It's been a minute since we've heard from Erase Errata but they're back with a brand new 7" on Kill Rock Stars ! The record contains 2 tracks recorded by Shellac's sound person Christina Files and also features her on analog synths. The A side "Damaged" premiered today on The Fader and it pretty much rules! Although it sounds a little different than what we're used to from Erase Errata, it still has the dissonance and post punk/no wave/whatever/whatever vibe I love about that band. Also, Jenny Hoyston's voice sounds AMAZING. So, yeah, this song makes me totally excited [...]

Photo by Alexa Shae Fabulosa Fest is a Women-Centered Music, Film, Craft & Healing Arts Weekend & Fundraiser happening on a 1700 acre ranch in Petaluma, California July 16-18. I guess I might be kind of out of the loop on women's festivals, but I'd never heard of Fabulosa Fest until today, but it seems like a pretty cool (albeit lesbionic) event! First of all, the proceeds of the festival go to various LGBTQ charities in California (and beyond). Second, although the festival is definitely women-centered and features female performers it [...]

We have been collecting for the lifeboats today and as usual we have had a massive, lovely meal prepared by my darling Mrs. Toad. It was fucking awesome, I have to tell you, and anyone who wasn't here truly did miss out. We, and the RNLI, owe a massive debt of thanks to Sharon from the Wirral, Euan from The Kays Lavelle (and many other things), Peter from next door, Matthew from Glasgow (as of last week), Ella from the Last Battle, Lucy and Catherine from Mrs. Toad's Finance Corp., Jamie from Broken Records, and Dylan and Ed [...]
Hawnay Troof's tour brought him around the world and back. Somehow between that, directing music videos for his band XBXRX and friends Deerhoof, drumming for the Raincoats and Chicks On Speed, he self-directed his new video for "Everything Is" off his new album Daggers At The Moon. The song featuring vocals by Jenny Hoyston of Erase Errata and was shot while moving out of his Berkeley house during one of his four days off. The video includes an all cat backup band wearing outfits designed by artist Ari Fish, who also stars in it. Influences run everywhere between Bob Dylan [...]
Perhaps because East Coast and West Coast weekends begin three hours apart and music blogs tend to take weekends off, while the L.A. Times reported on Friday that Mika Miko is breaking up , the news is just making the blogosphere rounds this afternoon. You see, by the time their post went up (at about 4pm PT), it was already 7pm in New York. So we may be late to this story, but we'll try and make up for it with some heartfelt, sincere mourning. Can I get a moment of silence? [...]

Wow! So much excitement ! I was clearly overstimulated, such that I dropped my phone into pieces while running across MLK. I was trying to catch the bus to see Mariachi El Bronx , but sadly, missed them because I was standing in the middle of MLK looking for parts of my blackberry. I heard the car horns instead of the mariachis. I eventually gave up and made my way to see Sallie Ford and Sean Flinn play at Rontoms in separate, respective and outstanding sets. And there was [...]
The terrifying and somewhat dangerous Middlesbrough, UK band Drunk in Hell have put up their demo for free download. These are soaked in fury and feedback. This is a band that will kick you in the balls and laugh. Download here. Former Silver Jews frontman David Berman has written a book of cartoons called The Portable February . For some reason Drag City Records thought that was reason enough to print it up. The band [...]

Since moving on from Mika Miko , the band's former drummer Kate Hall has packed up her drum kit and has instead picked up a video camera. The musician turned artist has made music videos for bands like Erase Errata and Abe Vigoda , and now she has added Deerhoof to her portfolio; directing the video for the band's latest single "Numina" off of 2008's Offend Maggie . We have to say the video is very good, but if you suffer from [...]
