Avey Tare's first solo album, Down There , is anything but accessible. As Animal Collective's founding member, Avey Tare (aka David Portner) stays true to his primary band's experimental style. This style allows Down There to be built completely upon flitting, mechanical sounds and disconnected musical arrangements. But Portner takes it even further; much of the album is just downright extraterrestrial. Countless unidentified, robotic sounds coupled with Portner's lurking vocals create a spooky realm that delves deeper than any Animal Collective album ever has. Tare said of the solo project, "(The record) primarily comes from being bummed out—which, I felt like [...]

Eric Copeland - Whorehouse Blues ( mp3 )

Eric Copeland, "U.F.O's Over Vamphire City"

It's time to listen to a bunch of the tracks I have not posted recently. Here is the next NOT POSTED mix. You can stream all the songs in this mix using the Yahoo media player at the bottom of the page OR if you are browsing with Chrome you can play (and scrobble ) the whole page using the ex.fm extension OR you [...]

Eric Copeland of Black Dice and Terrestrial Tones follows up his latest solo release, Waco Taco Combo [2011, Escho], with a new single, Whorehouse Blues out through Post Present Medium. Whorehouse Blues features three new tracks from Copeland: "U.F.O's..," "Guk," and the title track. "U.F.O's.." was a pleasant change from the usual brand of noisy experimental music we expect from Copeland; a crackling jam on loop. Grab the 7" here . U.F.O's Over Vampire City

Eric Copeland released his third solo album on Escho Records entitled Waco Taco Combo . Escho made a limited edition pressing of 500 vinyl copies in May of this year. It is the follow-up to 2009's Alien in a Garbage Dump . Waco Taco can be seen as a continuation of the extraterrestrial sounds found on Alien , yet the new work has more of a twisted dance music bend. Copeland is best known for being one third of Black Dice and for collaborating with Animal Collective member Avey Tare, both experimental noise bands who [...]
Eric Copeland's solo material often demonstrates a lighter side to his work than the extreme pummeling of Black Dice's records. He has a new album out now on the Escho label, which is titled Waco Taco and can be previewed in full in the Soundcloud clip below. It follows in much the same vein as his 2009 release Alien in a Garbage Dump , with the quirky barrage of samples being carefully shaped into pop structures that collapse and reassemble at his fingertips. It's unlikely this stream will be up for very long, but if it goes [...]

(Escho, 2011) We talk about Eric Copeland, about his band, Black Dice, and about the pop/noise marriage/dichotomy whenever we talk about Eric Copeland, about his band, Black Dice. And that's useful to an extent, I suppose, but in reality, really, when I listen to Black Dice, when I listen to Eric Copeland, when I listen to Waco Taco Combo, I don't think, even remotely, of it as noise, as noise music, as gravel, as spit, as mulch. And, on the same hand, the music isn't really pop music of any kind, isn't really Britney, isn't really [...]

Eric Copeland — Beatlemania Eric Copeland serves as one third of avant-noise mainstays Black Dice , a band which, even at their most accessible, are pretty damn weird. Safe to say then that Waco Taco Combo , Copeland's new solo effort for Denmark's Escho Records , is also quite weird (if not a bit more easy to groove to). If you heard the glitchy funk meltdown of "Krankendudel" on Altered Zones , [...]
![[Co-Premiere] Eric Copeland – "Krankendudel"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3461531_lg.jpg)
The mercurial Eric Copeland is most prominently known as one-third of Black Dice , and to a lesser extent, the destructive half of Avey Tare's Terrestrial Tones . Copeland's solo material, beginning with the Paw Tracks -released Hermaphrodite in 2007, is just as remarkable, and decidedly less grating for those not terribly enthused by the noise genre. While both he and Black Dice employ dragnet sound collages and splattered sampling, Eric Copeland's solo material emphasizes destroyed rhythms and mechanical atmosphere. The end result is a vague yet wholly fucked version of dance music. [...]

Welcome to The New York Rockmarket's end of the year list spectacular. This is when I talk about how lists are fun but ultimately meaningless, and apologize for not posting the last few days because I've been compiling my lists. This is also where I talk about favorites as opposed to best, like I did last year . All of those things still apply. I'm making two lists this year: Favorite Songs and Favorite Albums. I'm going to attempt to skew my albums list a bit more towards the critical, but this songs list is just straight-up about fun, beautiful, [...]
