In 2006, Eric Metronome recorded and posted a new cover song every week for 52 weeks. From Hayden to The Beatles to Mountain Goats to Nick Drake, it was a fun and ambitious project. Eric has resposted the songs as a 3 part download. Click here to grab the files. This is probably one of the most requested things I get in my inbox, so I'm glad Eric has put it back out there to the world. Keep reading for the full track list. All [...]

mp3: super xx man - medication mp3: super xx man - medication (eric metronome remix) mp3: super xx man - medication (poddington bear remix) ......... [buy vol. xii: there'll be diamonds] album opener "medication" is one of the stand out tracks on super xx man's most recent release, volume xii: there'll be diamonds . the song quickly sets the tone for the album and that tone likely caught many of super xx man's long time fans off guard when [...]

There is a lot going on in Columbus this week, it's sort of hard to keep straight in my mind. Stuff that I am going to or would like to go to: Tonight : The Swell Season and Bill Calahan @ the Palace Theatre Tuesday : Hayden and Eric Metronome @ Rumba Evangelicals w/ Church of the Red Museum, Ryan Smith @ Skullys Thursday : Tyvek, Guinea Words, The Lindsay @ The Summit [...]

I love going to shows and I love taking photos at shows. It's often quite a challenge when you're combating a single red light bulb at the back of the stage in a tiny basement rock club (or Christmas lights , for that matter), but it's loads of fun, and tonight I want to take a look at the best photos of 2007 here at ThaBombShelter. APROPOS OF NOTHING "Coconut" Harry Nilsson A Gay angel in the [...]

So what happens when a contemporary artist covers another contemporary artist? I call it magic. I mean, come on, Iron & Wine covering The Postal Service? Matt Pond covering Neutral Milk Hotel? Nick Cave covering Pulp? All awesome, all happening tonight. "Cubs In Five" The Mountain Goats "Cubs In Five" Eric Metronome This one goes out to my best friend, Pat, purveyor of Before There Was... and longtime Cubs apologist. Just messin'. He hails from Chicago and bleeds Cubby [...]
Just last week I was on the receiving end of an interview when I exchanged some emails with Jon Dumas from local music/humor/random website, The Helicon . Go check it out here . And just to add my own little spin to the interview, here's a soundtrack of sorts to the interview itself. Enjoy! ThaBombShelter on The Helicon "To Be Alone With You" Eric Metronome (Sufjan Stevens Cover) "Manes Visits the Manor" This is My Suitcase [...]

It took Eric Metronome 52 weeks to finish his collection of cover songs, and what a collection it is. Each song was released on his blog throughout 2006, and taken down shortly thereafter due to licensing concerns. Unfortunately for us all, it's highly unlikely that he will ever release the collection commercially due to those very same concerns. I've got the full tracklist below if you're interested, chock full of an eclectic mix of songs from The Beatles to Cheap Trick, Sufjan Stevens to A-Ha. According to Metronome, he just covered the songs he liked, [...]
I first wrote about Eric Metronome and his incredible performance with Say Hi To Your Mom back in April , and I was finally able to get his full length, "You Should Be Happy" from Mr. Metronome himself (an incredibly nice guy, for sure, and there will hopefully be an interview in the near future). When Emily and I first listened through it while running errands last weekend, we were both struck by the heavy influence of Elliott Smith (he actually dedicates the album to him in the sleeve), and while I'm not a huge Elliott Smith fan, [...]

The information on Radical Face is scant. Ben Cooper is the braintrust. He has another band called, "Electric President." This album, "Ghost" was released on March 20, 2007. He's from Jacksonville, FL. Outside of that, I can't really impart much more. Oh, apparently the concept of the album is that it's told with the idea that houses have memories and can tell them to us, which is perhaps important. I generally take my music on a more personal slant, allowing it to speak for itself without the overtones of explicit theme and proposed [...]

I'm way behind on the Eric Metronome blog buzz, but oh well. I've had his new album for a while and wrote the following review a couple of months ago before it got lost in my draft folder. You Should... **Click on the link to read the full post, download mp3s, and comment.**

Did you know that this is post 199 on this blog? No? Well it is you know. Not that that is particularly exciting given my slowdown over recent weeks. It also means that there won't be anything special for post 200. Not because I can't be bothered (well, a little of that), but mostly because there's a lot of fun list type posts coming in December. All of which will be very exciting and have lots of fantastic music contained within them. Hell, there might even be an advent type thing through the [...]

Being on this side of the Atlantic I'm not too ashamed to say that I didn't hear of Eric Metronome until I came to hear his ongoing cover of the week project via various mp3 blogs. If this wasn't enough to keep him busy, he has also just released an album of original material, You Should be Happy, available from Sunken Treasure. Over the last few weeks it has happily snuck into my listening

Susan Lee Chun - The Figurative Kind (2006) A while back, I had this idea that I would start a band that would only cover indie artists because there is a plethoric smorgasboard of exciting music that just. doesn't. get. heard. And why do we need seven-hundred Bob Dylan covers, but only a few of The Promise Ring? Plus, it's completely the type of band a music-blogger would have; enjoying someone else's talent and spreading it around. Well, apparently Eric Metronome has [...]
Eric Metronome will release You Should Be Happy on October 31. You can actually get it shipped now from Sunken Treasure if you were so inclined. Metronome is also currently engaged in a covers project much like Bishop Allen's EP project. Metronome releases one cover every week. A few I found interesting were Band of Horses' "The Funeral" and John Lennon's "Isolation." Other artists covered include Sufjan, Spoon, and Joanna Newsom. Eric Metronome - The Beginning of the Beginning [...]
