I can't believe I haven't written about Erik Hassle 's eponymous first album yet. What a shame. Well, to be totally honest there are lots of other artists/songs/albums I have yet to feature on this humble blog. Whatever. As for a little biography I can say that Erik is Swedish, ginger-haired, and very very talented. Hassle , his first album, is full of that high-quality, modern, relevant and exciting powerpop his fellow Swedish Robyn is praised for. It's just a little more masculine. With the clever production and songwriting in display on this [...]

Check out my video interview with emerging Swedish pop singer Erik Hassle. From his apartment balcony in London, Erik talks a little about how he got started in the music industry, he reveals how he keeps his hair so perfectly upright, plus he gives his thoughts about fans, fame and Madonna. The singer's songs are shooting up the charts in Sweden. His debut single there, "Hurtful," has already spent over a year at the top of the Swedish Single and Airplay charts. Success in the U.K. may soon follow as well with the release of his British [...]

Check out this brand-new video for Erik Hassle's debut U.K.single, "Don't Bring Me Flowers," which will be released next week. Erik shot this moody video a few weeks ago in Los Angeles, a place that he likes a lot, because "the weather always seems to be nice there," he told me in an exclusive video interview. Look out for the video interview with Erik in the next couple of days.
I was never really sold on Yes Giantess (formerly just Giantess). Something always felt off. But when NME started hyping them up for their Radar tour , I started paying better attention. Say what you will about NME, but they have turned me onto some great acts (La Roux, Friendly Fires, Little Boots, The Big Pink), so I'll give anyone they hype a second chance. The electropop outfit's "Tuff 'n' Stuff" was released earlier this year by Neon Gold , backed by "You Were Young." The first half of the song is uninteresting, but somewhere near [...]

Hello! Nothing better to kick off the week than some fresh 80's-inspired pop, fraught with sweet synth & Cyndi Lauper-esque vocals. That's what Kiss In Cities delivers - and more. Laura Marsden & Joe Cross make up the Manchester duo responsible for the trip back to the 80's, reminiscing memories of The Goonies, hair teasing & lycra. So turn up your speakers and take yourself back with their track U R My Girl . Also support them & go to their myspace page for more goodness! Kiss In Cities - U R My [...]

First attracting our eardrums with his fetchingly overdramatic "Hurtful" , Swedish up-and-comer Erik Hassle continues to convince us that he's one of this year's best new pop catches with his new single "Don't Bring Flowers", a nicely blended mix of Maroon 5 and Killers influences that's trendily built around vampiric-ish themes. Here, backed by a snappy bassline jig, Hassle details the exasperation of being enamoured over a significant other whose hold over him is so strong it's got him "diggin' in the dirt/...So deep into this shit I can taste the earth" and dying "in [...]

Check out a tranced up dance remix of Erik Hassle's debut single "Don't Bring Me Flowers" by Martin Roth. It brings out the stars! Stay tuned for my video interview with Erik that I conducted this week. Lots of fun. Coming up in the next few days. (Picture of the interview below.)

Check out an excellent duet between two incredible, emerging talents, Erik Hassle and MHPO . The unlikely duo duets on Hassle's "Don't Bring Me Flowers. This is pure pop brilliance all around. More. more, more! Hassle's original version of "Don't Bring Me Flowers" is released in the U.K. as his debut single on August 24. The song is a powerful slice of acoustic-synth pop that features the singer's melodramatic lyrics, such as "Don't bring flowers after I'm dead, save your givings for the living instead," which could be torn from a teenager's diary.

Erik Hassle is taking his pop from Sweden to the UK. On August 24, he will release his UK debut single "Don't Bring Flowers" through Island Records. The latest in a long line of stand out Scandi pop artists, Erik is a massive word of mouth success in Sweden - his debut single there, "Hurtful" (to be released in the UK later in 2009) has already spent over a year at the top of the Swedish Single and Airplay charts. Hassle will be in the UK for a mini tour of performances. Dates and cities [...]

Anyone familiar with Musick will know that we're quite big fans of all things Scandinavian. From Robyn to Lykke Li to Fever Ray to Wildbirds & Peacedrums to Roxette to Ace of Base (ahem). Well, add to that ever growing list another name- Manna . She looks like this: Born in Paris, but now living in Finland, Manna makes the kind of music that Scandinavians seem to create in their sleep. 'Some Girls/Some Boys' is [...]

If it's possible, try to get past Stockholm, Sweden-born newcomer Erik Hassle 's attention-distracting resemblance to Napoleon Dynamite, so you can completely indulge yourself in the pop greatness that is his single, "Hurtful". Kin to The Fray/ OneRepublic brand of melodramatic pop/ rock (read: if it hasn't already, it'll be soundtracking some primetime TV scene soon enough), "Hurtful" documents one man's tardy ownership of his part in a romance's failing. "I used to laugh it off/ I used to look the other way", Hassle admits of his behavior back then. But, as they say, "hindsight is 20/203, [...]

Several albums I'm looking forward to but aren't release for a while are available for preorder, two Swedish (well, one technically American, but Swedish in many of its aspects) and one French. First, Erik Hassle 's Hassle was supposed to be released March 25. Then the release date was pushed back to April 29. Just today I found out that now it's apparently June 10 (preorder it here ). Despite having the album for months, I'm still going slightly crazy to have a physical copy [...]

The debut single from Swedish songbird Erik Hassle, Hurtful , has been out and about for a few months now, and lately seems to be picking up some speed. A few weeks ago, we were fortunate enough to get our hands on his debut album, "Hassle." We're not even sure if the project has an official release date yet, but it's an incredibly smooth, completely enjoyable electro-pop debut with a lot of appeal, that has the potential to do quite well in the UK, if not internationally. " Love's got more hooks than a fish line [...]

Adem just reviewed Erik Hassle's album. It's a great review that perfectly captures why this album is so exciting and why I fell so in love with it and hopefully many others will too. In other words: go read it .
Erik Hassle has a new video for "Hurtful" out. Not much happens in it, but it's much better than the original one: Erik's music is far more accessible than that first video made it seem, whereas this video strikes a much more accurate balance between arty and accessible. That review of the album I've been promising and promising for forever really is coming. In other Swedish music news, Fibes, Oh Fibes! have a new single, "Love Child," out (well, out soon). It's '60s-ish (though not in the Amy [...]
