'Tired of holiday hype? Gritting your teeth until New Year's Eve? Erin McKeown is too. Filled with profanity, irreverance, and just plain bad behavior, "F*ck That!" is the antidote to all that annoying holiday spirit. It's the world's first anti-capitalist, pro-queer, suspicious of christmas-as-patriotism, sex-positive, not safe for work, multi-ethnic, radical leftist Anti-Holiday record. There is nothing redeeming about christmas in any of these 10 songs. Please note this album contains adult language and themes completely inappropriate for children. On purpose.'More? "Nobody hates the holidays more than me," says the irreverent and charming Erin McKeown . Turning her personal opinions in to commerce and entertainment, McKeown has just released the F*ck That! Anti-Holiday Album , which you can listen to below. Erin brings her Anti-Holiday show to World Cafe Live on Sunday, December 4th. Tickets are $24-$34.

In what is sure to be a deluge of happy holiday albums (we've already had entries from She & Him and Scott Weiland ), we get something entirely different from folk musician Erin McKeown . She has just released an 'anti-holiday' album entitled F*ck That! . With tracks like "Santa Is An Asshole" and "A Very Queer Christmas", it's sure to be a winner for the cynics among us. Check it out and order it here .

Here's another "half mix." Some of my favorites include Dominos by Big Pink , Lovesick Teenagers by Bear in Heaven , Early Warnings by Foreign Born , Beachcomber by Real Estate (one of my favorite tracks from 2009), and Wide-eyed, Legless by Laura Veirs . FOUND In what is inevitably going to end up being called 'FOUND's Friday Freebie', Chemikal Undergrounds latest signings are very kindly going to be giving away a free song every Friday (it's like it was they did that just for me - they didn't though), until the release of their new album in March. That's a hell of a lot of free stuff! As I am doing this in advance I don't know what the first track they're giving away is, what I do know is that you can download it here . [...]

Ages ago, I found this R.E.M. bootleg at a now-defunct record shop. It was wonderful, and intimate, and full of strange cover versions I had never heard. Just before launching into "World Leader Pretend," Michael Stipe says: "We're really happy to be here at Mountain Stage. We're surrounded by really good people, and we're gonna do a couple songs for you." At the time, I had no idea where, or what, Mountain Stage was... but I wanted to be there. Years later, thanks to the magic of the Internet and NPR Music , I get to experience amazing, live [...]

Friends with a Benefit at Town Hall (08.29/10) ( Buy Tickets ) This show probably doesn't need my help, but the lineup looks pretty cool and it literally "flew" right under my radar until a couple of days ago. Friends with a Benefit is actually a benefit for the American Bird Conservancy (aren't we all ornithologists at heart) and its happening at NYC's historic Town Hall on August 29, 2010 . The advance publicity promises an evening of live entertainment featuring [...]
I can't remember which PFF it was but way, way back in the day, Erin McKeown tore the Old Poole Farm a new one. She played the main stage and I think the camp stage. Short in stature but big in attitude and sound, Erin has been making some of the most interesting music of the last decade. Her album from 2009 was one of her best. And my personal favorite, "Distillation", is ten years old. Looking forward to hearing some old and some new tunes played live by Erin. Erin McKeown ∞ [...]
*Quick note, I'll be switching the nomenclature of these to the date of the releases that week (Tuesdays). Somehow this coincided with 4.20, tee hee. Erin McKeown has two of her songs for download right now. One really good one, "Minneapolis," and an okay live version of her song "Cosmopolitan." She's like a little more poppy and more folksy Ingrid Michaelson. Erin McKeown - Cosmopolitan (Live) Erin McKeown - Minneapolis Matthew Mayfield (on tour with NeedtoBreathe) has one of his, "Fire Escape," for free [...]
Erin McKeown just released this track to her fans for their support these past few months. "Minneapolis" is off her album Hundreds of Lions and was co-written with bandmate Allison Miller, and given its title, I had no choice but to post this one. If you like what you hear, Erin will be putting on shows in Boston, Portland OR, Seattle and Alaska (where she will perform with Thao Nguygen) before

I'm not thrilled about presenting two topical coverfolk sets in a row, primarily because they are the kind of posts that least support our stated mission here at Cover Lay Down. Which is to day: focusing on artists and songs, and helping make connections between culture, communities, performers and listeners through coverage, generally requires more than just the song itself; I'm a researcher by nature, and it pains me to skip the deep study. But I'm flat out on both my professional and community responsibilities, in the midst of up-late grading and midterm-writing [...]

Billiards open only to Ticket Holders Doors at 8pm Show at 9pm Tickets $25 Ani DiFranco Only 5′ 2″ in height, Ani DiFranco has worked hard to prove that she's big in stature. Born in Buffalo, New York, Ani was singing and playing guitar long before most of us break out of the doldrums of Kidz Bop and Bubblegum Pop to finally realize what good music actually is. As she grew older, she began touring, developing both her signature style of performance and her extremely loyal fan base. Rather than waiting [...]

REGINA SPEKTOR FAR (Sire) by Erin McKeown My favorite album of 2009 was Regina Spektor's Far . I've been a fan for years and always admired the details of her songwriting and production. She was always clever, but on this record, she gets spiritual without losing the wink. I'm a believer! Runners Up: Andrew Bird , Noble Beast (Fat Possum) Heartless Bastards , The Mountain (Fat Possum)
Moog and Paste Magazine have partnered on a new video series called Live At Moog to highlight Moog Music's array of old-school synths and effects pedals. The five-week video series will feature bands/artists - like Medeski, Martin & Wood, Matisyahu, and Yo La Tengo - doing live studio sessions from the Moog factory in Asheville, NC. The series is also sponsored by the local Asheville folks over at Music Allies . Check out the upcoming schedule of sessions: Yo La Tengo - Episode 1 - December 2009 (available today) White [...]
Erin McKeown is an indie pop artist who's joining the likes of Carrie Rodriguez and Ben Sollee on tour this February. Other artists she has toured with in the past include Ani DiFranco, which gives her mega points in my book. Her latest release is Hundreds of Lions, which includes a romping mix of folk, swing, rock and carnival-noir pop. While I really enjoy her song Santa Cruz, take a listen to

While the Grammy nominations may be the heavyweight award announcement recently, they aren't the only musical honors out there. Erin McKeown was nominated not long ago for two BMAs (that's Boston Music Awards), Female Vocalist Of The Year and Singer-Songwriter Of The Year. She didn't end up winning (the awards ceremony was last night), but you can still catch her when she comes to town tomorrow (Friday) night with the original "I Kissed a Girl" singer Jill Sobule . Check out all of McKeown's dates after the jump. Erin McKeown tour [...]
