Thursday features take the week off… Since this is like the first full week you have probably worked in a while, I figured you might be in need of some party music by today. I made this mix at the tail end of '03, made up of songs that came out that year. 1. Andrew Bird ~ Skin 2. Zwan ~ Baby Let's Rock! 3. Ben Harper ~ Bring The Funk 4. [...]

Since I started reading "Love Is A Mix Tape," I've been revisiting some of my old mixes. This was the first one I made for The Duchess' (new) car (at the time), a Mini Cooper. I like it for the film dialog and hodgepodge of tunes. 1. Tomoyasu Hotei ~ Battle Without Honor or Humanity 2. The Who ~ Baba O'Riley 3. Jay ~ "Ball Lickers" (from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back) 4. Beastie Boys ~ Root [...]

Yet another new weekly feature. I'm gonna pick a theme and post seven songs from 2007 that fit that theme. First up: songs that have a banjo in them. Some you've heard here before. Some are new. Arranged in no particular order. Do Make Say Think ~ In Mind Great Lake Swimmers ~ Your Rocky Spine The Avett Brothers ~ Pretty Girl from Chile Feist ~ One Two Three Four Jesse [...]
Here's one of the new weekly features I mentioned here . The idea will be to post songs that have some sweet background vocals. Erin McKeown is an American multi-instrumentist, [...]

Two reasons for this comparitive study: you can never get enough Tim Seely around my house and Erin's got a stellar new album out (to be featured here at a later date). These two albums have birds on the cover. Plain, simple, effective. Erin McKeown: We Will Become Like Birds ~ We Are More Tim Seely: Funeral Music ~ Lady Luck Tim wins becuase his bird is upside down (since [...]
Here we are my friends, at long last, The Daily Graboid is back to start the year off fresh with samples of the newest releases each and every week. After a short absence due to a lack of quality albums throughout most of December, this week shows a couple of decent releases that were enough to start this feature back up again. For those not familiar with how it works, each Wednesday I go through a list of album releases and pick out whichever ones that are worth listening or checking out. It's good for me because I [...]

It's 2007, and I'm writing my first post of the year about a guilty pleasure. Thankfully, it's not about my love for Kyrie by Mr. Mister. I'm pointing you in the direction of Erin McKeown who typically has a sound...

Emily Barker is a Western Australian roots performer whose limited-edition, debut record, Photos.Fires.Fables , has just come out. Emily's been touring the UK pretty much since her debut performance in 2003 at The Cambridge Folk Festival and she has picked up a lot of admirers along the way. She's got a disarmingly warm voice, one that is instantly appealing and accessible. Add her tasteful (at times gorgeous) arrangements and you've got a pretty impressive debut. This'll be a difficult one to pick up in the states but you can try ordering it here [...]
