Listen to the new Ernest Ellis LP above - the Sydney, Australia singer/songwriter's sophomore album, the follow up to his 2010 , Hunting . The new album is specifically influenced by four records: Rowland S. Howard's Pop Crimes, Dirty Three's Horse Stories, Beach House's Teen Dream and Kurt Vile's Smoke Ring For My Halo.
Ernest Ellis Ernest Ellis creates lovely, uplifting, nostalgic and acoustically beautiful folk pop. The songs on the debut album "Hunting" was recorded between April 2009 and April 2010. And it took such a long time to record because he kept writing more and more songs that he wanted to include on the album, (there was [...]

I've been waiting for a guide to come and take me by the hand. Could these sensations make me feel the pleasures of a normal man? New sensations barely interest me for another day. I've got the spirit, lose the feeling, take the shock away. It's getting faster, moving faster now, it's getting out of hand. On the tenth [...]

Ernest Ellis - 'When I Feel Like Jesus Son The World Will Feel Much Different' ( mp3 ) I love this guy and I've made no secret about it over the past couple of years, fawning over every track sent my way like aural porn. That said, I was concerned that Ellis was steadily descending into 'uncool' territory - I mean, it's 2k10 and not even Bon Iver sounds like 'Bon Iver' any more. Was Ellis getting a bit derivative? Was he two years too late on the scene? Is his falsetto up to Justin Vernon/Kyp Malone [...]
[There is a video that cannot be displayed in this feed. Visit the blog entry to see the video.] Some may have seen me raving on twitter about the music clip for Ernest Ellis and their track 'Loveless' which is the latest single from the Australian bred four piece. It's feats this raw slow burning melodic rhythm, swirling guitar riffs and breath stealing build in a confusing rush of hybrid folktronica . Ernest Ellis - Loveless ysi 128Kbps Be ready for [...]
Every time Hungry Kids of Hungary play in Brisbane it's like one big party. Their music is infectiously catchy and unabashedly poppy. So what better way to spend a Friday night unwinding from work than heading to the Zoo to watch the Hungriest of all the Kids in Hungary. We arrived in time to catch Boy & Bear assemble on stage, albeit minus one boy... or was it one bear. In bassist Jake Tarasenko's absence, Boy & Bear did away with the drums, instead performing a refreshingly intimate drum-less set. The three [...]

It's happened at last...I've got broadband. I've been running this thing on a dial-up since February and it's not been easy! Bloody frustrating in fact. Broadband has finally found me out here in the sticks and I'm already in love. To celebrate, here are some top tracks that I've been loving this past week. Enjoy! Bye Bye Bye - Plants and Animals Canadian indie rock. I absolutely adore the piano and the epic buildups that pepper the track throughout. This is off their debut LP Parc Avenue which was released earlier [...]

Ernest Ellis is a relatively new band out of Sydney, playing their first show just two weeks ago. I managed to catch the end of this set, and was quite intrigued with what I saw. What struck me most was the diversity of their sound. Each song seemed to remind me of a different artist. If you head to their myspace, you can hear a TV On The Radio song ( Want For Anything ), a Sea And Cake song ( Holiday ) and even a Bit By Bats song ( Bad Blood ). I don't make these comparisons in [...]
