While I was poking around on the Exponential Records website I came across a free digital release by "Hip Hop, Experimental, Electronic - whatever you want to call it" artist, Ernest Gonzales . The album was originally released in 2004 and is entitled Chasing the Sun . Gonzales describes it thusly, "music to listen to while drifting into a daydream as you drive towards the sun." Downloadable: Chasing The Sun (exponential zip) Listen: Spearmint Starfish (mp3) The Chasing The Sun [...]
Ernest Gonzales is a "Hyphenated American" aka Hispanic, Chicano, Latino, or Mexican - whatever you want to call it. He grew up next door to the Alamo, but his Spanish is muy pequito. Gonzales is the only child of an electrician father and a Home Depot customer service rep mom. Latch-key only child = video games, drawing trees, making bow and arrows, too much MTV, and pizza pockets. Somehow in between summer engineering camps Gonzales decided to go to art school, but he has no plans of painting the Virgen de Guadalupe. During college, Gonzales began experimenting with [...]

Y o, for real, it's the weekend and its time to shake your moneymaker (not implying y'all are strippers or whatever). I stumble across a ton of awesome remixes as I surf this information ether-highway of ours. I don't like giving them dedicated posts cause 1) not everyone is super into remixes and 2) I don't want to dilute the attention that should be given to new artists. You feel me? I knew you would. So anyway, I am starting another new feature at TBE where I round up some of the sweetest remixes of late and toss 'em at [...]

SXSW hype is getting bigger and bigger each year, and the music industry is going crazy these days, tweets, emails, schedules, free music. Most go straight to the bin, because we are continents away, but free music is always welcome, if it's coming from an identified good source like Exponential . Texas is a label sampler by Exponential records, sponsored by our friends at aurgasm and many others, which features over 17 tracks from Texan producers. A whole range of electronic music can be found here from IDM to hiphop, dubstep. [...]

Exponential Records is an independent label based out of Texas and since it's foundation in 2002 it's been putting out a steady stream of tasty electronica by a variety of largely Hispanic artists. The label was co-founded by Ernest Gonzales and this year saw him re-release his 2004 album Lullaby. Originally put out on CD under the alias Theory of Everything, Lullaby was inspired by the news that Ernest was to become a father and upon describing the thought process behind the project, Ernest explains "I wanted to make music for my baby to fall [...]

Hip Hop producer Ernest Gonzales drops his Theory of Everything moniker and tinkers out 8 bit lullabies for his soon-to-be-born daughter. I was a bit hesitant to listen to such an intensely personal project. But when I heard these playful, dreamy compositions I felt privileged to have been invited to this musical expression of one father's hopes and dreams for his child. That said, children are not required to enjoy this 80s-era synthesized study in dream pop. www.antipop.net www.myspace.com/theoryofeveryt hing
More good stuff that hit our mailboxes in September were: Release no.7 from Munich based Jazz & Milk records. Dusty's Keep it Raw EP has 4 tracks of jazzy beats & uptempo latin vibes. More in depth review on Juslikemusic . A new track from Brighton based The Mummers . Dreamy romantic indie pop by a huge orchestra. Exponential Records boss Ernest Gonzales ' re-released 2004 EP "Lullabies for Sun Chasers" (previously on Anti-pop) and his old Chasing the Sun EP [...]
photo: Abbey Braden (Inter)National: - Jon Pareles recaps My Bloody Valentine's first American concert in some 16 years for The New York Times, "There were no new songs in My Bloody Valentine's set on Sunday, but as in the '80s and early 1990s, My Bloody Valentine's music flashed simultaneous, contradictory signals: the songs were bruised and hurting at their core but exultantly propulsive, catchy like punk and pop but spiked with fearsome cacophony." We've got quite a backlog of CDs we've never gotten around to, so we're going to try to chip away at the pile with this regular feature. Some are left over from previous music editors, others fell by the wayside because they were trumped week after week by albums that looked more promising. The plan: to take four or five at a time and play each CD for as long as I can stand it. If you were expecting this yesterday, as promised in the print product's "Seven Days Out," I apologize for the late [...]

Regular readers may have noticed our new, shiny music player from Yahoo! It hovers in the bottom left corner of any Moose web page with music files in it, it quietly loads up those music files and adds them to a playlist that you can listen to as you read the posts. We've been looking [...]
Great new album by Anti-pop artist Ernest Gonzales. The album While On Saturn's Rings doesn't officially come out till October 2nd but I am here to tell you to pre-order it cause its a good one. If you are a fan of the borderline indie-electronica sound its certainly worth a spin. You know the dude has great taste as there is a Daedulus remix of "While On Saturn's Rings" thrown on the disc for good measure. Check out a track: [...]
