Melbourne Music Week and Mess + Noise put together the Berlin-esque event of Distant Tempos. 6 independent artists performed on Tuesday night with Oliver Tank, Mitzi, Lost Animal, NO ZU, Thrupence & Simon Winkler. If you have been living under a rock, the pop up venue is held in The Argus Building. If you haven't had the chance to check out an event at Where?House you most certainly should, there are a few more nights left of incredible music this weekend. Oliver Tank dropped-it-like-it-was-hot but my personal favourite of the [...]
A decade ago, we knew every word to every track by The Faint, blew out our eardrums to the schizophrenic instrumentals of Out Hud and collectively lost our minds upon introduction to The Rapture. This was the sound of dance punk. It was an exciting revival combining disco, post-punk and funk, with an unmistakably modern spirit. Karen O channeled Lizzy Mercier Descloux and when James Murphy arrived, a new generation found their David Byrne. On Friday, November 2 , you're invited to a celebration of dance punk across the decades — from CBGB to DFA — with Michael [...]
New track from Sydney, Australia "avant-party" trio Holy Balm , taken from their forthcoming LP It's You , which has found an ideal home here in the States in L.A. weirdo emporium Not Not Fun . " Take It " finds the ESG-influenced crew exploring a dystopic, danceable world inhabited by vintage drum machines and wobbly synthesizers, as Emma Ramsay's elegantly wasted vocals lull us into a tranced-out daze: mp3: Holy Balm :: Take It

ESG – New York
As one grows older, it becomes apparent that the concept of cool is over-rated. It's a bullshit notion which elevates asshole behaviour and surliness to something acceptable and aspirational. So while certain corners of the media thrive on bands of young men causing mayhem and pissing off hotel cleaners, the reality is that you wouldn't want to spend much time in their company. And, more often than not, their music is derivative muck. Fortunately, Callers are not cool in any sense of the word. Their music is awkward, choppy and often complicated. There's a gurning gangly [...]

ESG - "You Make No Sense" "We're not here to answer accusations about who came up with the idea or who is to blame for it's not working exactly according to our expectations. The whole department was behind the idea of Muppet Cops. It was a unanimous decision brought about by the department in conjunction with the province, there were many many signatories in this process. Muppet Cops still sounds like a good idea to me. But it's obvious now that there were unforeseen problems with the procedure. Too much power. We thought [...]

Good Friends Not Bad Friends
Quiz Quest returned on Monday in Gwdihŵ with the theme of TV comedies (we won a Euro 2012 Panini sticker book for coming 3rd - I haven't opened it yet for fear of no shinys). One of the rounds was guess the next line in Friends, which we sucked at. But my word we sucked nowhere near as hard as that show. I haven't watched it in about 10 years, what was I thinking?
