Click here to view the embedded video. It's always saddened me that Esiotrot never managed to come to anything for whatever reason. There's a million reasons why this could be the case, but for whatever reason they never gained more than the cultist of followings. Which for a band that recorded one of my favourite songs ever ( Emily Scott ) is a shame. It's seemed like the band has been winding down for a while now, with hardly any gigs and nothing in the way of new recordings, so it's just [...]

Tigercats is a new band from London, with Duncan Barrett of Esiotrot on vocals. They have a single out on Haircut Records soon, "Konny Huck", and will be recording a new one in a couple of weeks. The band has played gigs with Tender Trap, Hexicon and Dum Dum Girls, and I expect great things from these people. You can listen to all the three songs from the single on myspace, and the lead track is available for download on Soundcloud. Here's the video, and a download-link [...]

I've always been surprised that Esiotrot haven't been able to pick up a bigger following as they nicely bridge the divide between mainstream indie rock and twee. Perhaps therein lies their problem though. Too precious to be mainstream, too dark to be twee. Truth be told, I was starting to get a little worried about them. It's been a few years now since their only full-length, Esiotrot Schmesiotrot , and while a handful of new songs have been floating around since, no follow-up seemed to be coming along. The last few months have brought [...]
My favourite band inspired by a tale by Roald Dahl, Esiotrot , has made a live-album from a concert they did at The Betsey Trotwood. I am downloading as we speak, so I haven't heard it yet. On the cover it says "For fans only, unhinged and unrehearsed" so I guess they give us some jangly goodness full of their usual charm. I like Esiotrot unhinged and unrehearsed! You can download the album from this link . Here's one of my favourite Esiotrot songs "Tammy Is Lez" from their [...]

Esiotrot Genre: Folk Rock / Indie / Powerpop From: London, United Kingdom With a name taken from the title of a Roald Dahl novel that spells tortoise backwards Kent seven piece Esiotrot perfectly capture Dahl's wierd and wonderful pythonesque sense of fun. [...]

"And I wish you'd stop goin' for stupid pretty boys who treat you like shit and don't know as much about music as you do." Taking their name from the Roald Dahl tale about an elderly gentlemen wooing the lovely lady downstairs with the help of a whole lotta turtles and a spell that goes, " Esiotrot , esiotrot! Teg reggib, teg reggib!", this group from Brighton, UK is all the more adorable as the story they're named after. I'd call these guys a septet, but according to [...]

Maths was never our strong point here at Indietracks Towers, but having taken off our socks and shoes and roped in some bemused passers by to do the same, we've eventually calculated that it's just 50 days until the festival! Including today, which is nearly over. Plus weekends don't really count, and nor do the days when there are Indietracks warm-up shows, of which there are maybe a dozen. Plus there's there's the Darren Hayman And Jack Hayter Play Hefner shows, which aren't proper 'waiting' days, the Indietracks Blog Summer Vacation, and the days watching Glastonbury on TV thinking "wouldn't [...]
There was lots of great music out there this year, and much of it from way beyond the official charts. Individual songs often got lost in the mists, but these ones stuck with me over the year.... .kate nash : foundations. This is such a clever song, lyrically. It's pretending to be upbeat and poppy but it's a pretty sharp disection of a relationship that's on the rocks. It surprised me and

Taking their name from a Roald Dahl novel Esiotrot , which is also Tortoise spelt backwards, have been around for a couple of years now. They were blogged quite a bit last year and I have finally got around to listening to their music which is a blend of indie pop with folkish undertones. There are four songs available for streaming via their My Space page and they are pretty, inoffensive songs. My favourite track is Emily Scott , taken from the The Dirtiest Birthday Present EP which slowly draws you [...]

Just a quick one as i'm tired and fancy an afternoon nap. Esiotrot - yes named after the Roald Dahl book - are a seven piece from Kent and are part of the Mentalist Association , a collective "make zines, put on shows, make art and release cdrs and real cds." They capture Roald's quirky and childish sense of fun in a net of bouncy guitars, laconic vocals and sprightly brass lines, making for a charming, energetic mixture of sounds not unsimilar to bands like Los Campesinos! and 4 Or 5 Magicians. They play songs about [...]

I think I'll just sit on my own and listen to indie rock Find a song to make me feel alright when you reject me for the second time I'm going to come right out and say it: The song below called Emily Scott is the best song that I've heard this year. I've been trying to cut down on my use of hyperbole of late, so I'm not saying that lightly. You know that warm and fuzzy feeling you get from the second you first hear a band that they [...]
Esiotrot??? The name looks less weird if you read it backwards or if you are familiar with Roald Dahl's children's books. One of Roald Dahl's less famous books is about a tortoise who doesn't seem to grow and about the "magic spell" that will make it grow (it begins "ESIO TROT, ESIO TROT, TEG REGGIB REGGIB!" :-)). The book is of course called Esio Trot, but since we rarely write much about

Apparently named after the Roald Dahl novel of the same name, Brighton's sunny soaked indie kids - Esiotrot - their catchyness is quote unquote imminent with the release of their upcoming EP Schmesiotrot . Having gigged alongside Danielson, Jens Lekman, Clearlake and Jeniferever to name but a few, there are definite Sweden twee superstars coarsing through the blood of this ever expanding little but not so little band... Stephen Mulkmus gets jiggy alongside Suburban Kids with Biblical Names on many of the tracks, but [...]

What does it spell backwards? Yes! Cute eh? Cute Indie-pop sounds are indeed the name, and the name of the game for this Brighton based band who make the genre work for me in a way I don't find in so many indie-pop bands (the best twee and indie-pop bands can be found at indie-mp3 and skatterbrain blogs) but here the interrupted musical elements seem to bring to mind American complicators (working hard to mix things up and quickly extending the number of instruments used (see Sufjan Stevens, The Shins)) more than straight up [...]

I know I've said this before, but I really wish someone would hurry up and make Esiotrot the enormously successful band they deserve to be. I'm not going to say anything much about them, so as to pique your curiosity, so you'll listen to them and be converted. They're jangly alright, but not afraid to make a sound so big it could take the roof of a church. They've played with folks like Danielson, Los Campesinos, Jens Lekman, Jeniferever, Pants Yell! and Sleeping States. And yet, chances are you haven't heard of them. I smell a conspiracy. [...]

Esiotrot - Sally Likes the Beach Boys Esiotrot could be really good. This song is little over a minute long, but there's so many good and wonderful things about it. I'm not going to spoil the surprise for you. You can buy their album Schmesiotrot here for £4.00. Do it. The Young Republic - Girl in a Tree This is a really really nice song. With guitars and violins and cornfields and hills with dark empty trees on [...]
