Back in early April, All Our Noise kicked off the spring season with a freshly rebranded and redesigned site, and we invited all of our friends to come out and celebrate the event. Montserrat House was gracious enough to host our Volume 3 party on April 21, and a few of our favorite bands provided the entertainment. The U Street Corridor is known for the variety of bars and clubs lining this busy stretch of the city. ★★★☆☆ Argentinean Federico Aubele paints a rather glum picture of his time in the German capital, sending a postcard beset by drizzle and offering a weak smile that listeners will find unconvincing with regard to the destination's merits. Structured/hampered by Aubele's strict yet contradictory inventory, Latin acoustic strums and snatches of Gallic accordion feel for a continental pensiveness against tear-stained sceneries and dub-issued basses. Topped off with sleazily hushed vocals, far from exploiting melancholia, the delivery sounds like he's planning Gainsbourg-like fantasies, Aubele's walks through damp air, hands dug deep in pockets and collar [...]
Something from Thievery Corporation's Eighteenth Street Lounge label is always quite exciting. Last time, I was sadly disappointed by Kabanjak (who took it with remarkably good grace). This time it's Ancient Astronauts, which is a duo including Kabanjak. Oh dear. Thankfully, this is a cracking downtempo tune with huge fat hip hop beats and some great parping brass. Argentinean dub-bolero master, Federico Aubele , is set to release his fourth LP via ESL Records . The new album was inspired by the heavy Berlin electronic scene as Aubele burrowed himself in the album making. Look for "Berlin 133 to hit the streets April 4th. The lay off, which included time as Fort Knox Five has allowed them to take their trademark sound and add further elements of production and instrumentation to develop the groove they are so well know for. Adrian Quesada and Martin Perna, respective band-leaders of famed ensembles Grupo Fantasma and Antibalas , once again unite under the Ocote Soul Sounds banner for their new full length album, Coconut Rock, released on ESL Music on June 23rd. After two stellar albums, this time around Coconut Rock finds the duo loosened up, slipping effortlessly into their trademark psychedelic afro-latin funk groove. This was the standout track of the album on first listen. Good thing it got the singles treatment, even when it is meant for Australia and New Zealand alone. This will probably work it's way up to be a single favorite. It sure is better than "Poker Face" and is very sing-along and summer-ready.

A small room with an even smaller stage, it was an intimate setting for what turned out to be a raucous and vibrant performance.
