Sharon Van Etten performs at last years MusicNOW festival in Cincinnati (photo by Keith Klenowski) Sharon Van Etten/The War on Drugs – Wednesday, March 21, 2012 – The Independent – San Francisco, CA This show had been sold out for weeks. Maybe I'm not used to that with my upbringing in the Cincinnati live music scene, but it was certainly a surprise to me that two seemingly small time bands had sold out a mid-sized venue on a Wednesday night. The moment I stepped into the venue, however, I realized [...]

![[MusicNOW 2011] Video: The National – Think You Can Wait](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3449899_lg.jpg)
On Sunday night, The National closed out MusicNOW if fine fashion, playing a set with old favorites, current classics and a couple songs that we don't hear from them live very often. One of those was a gem with Sharon Van Etten guesting called "Think You Can Wait" which is a tune they penned for the Paul Giamati film Win, Win. We have some video of the performance for you here today on ENS, enjoy! Tweet
Hot on the heels of the announcement that The National are coming home to Cincinnati to play at the MusicNOW festival in May along with a cast of friends, comes news of a brand new song. Not only is it a great tune, but it features another MusicNOW collaborator, who happens to be opening for the band when they play Music Hall, in Sharon Van Etten . Aaron Dessner of The National has been close with Van Etten for awhile now, performing with the talented singer at various shows in the past year and producing her new [...]
I know lots of you have been waiting and wondering about the status of our beloved MusicNOW festival here in Cincinnati. Well today, in case you have not already seen it, the festival is back and ready to announce the performances for what should be its biggest year yet. The festival stretches for three nights again this year, but for the first time, will spill outside of Memorial Hall and into the more spacious Music Hall for the third night. The biggest thing about this years festival is the fact that curator Bryce Dessner's [...]

Given my total absence from this blog over the past three weeks, I don't suppose it'll be any surprise to hear that I didn't have time to contribute to this month's MAP either. So for the second month in a row, my England contribution comes ghostwritten by MAP organiser Jason ...

This month's whothehell.net's entry for the MAP has been selected by Matt Hickey ARGENTINA : Zonaindie Eloisa Lopez - Espiral This is one of Zonaindie's favorite tracks from 2009. It was taken from Eloisa's third album, Por Un Paisaje. Maybe we like her so much because she manages to elegantly combine acoustic textures with native South American percussions and digital sounds. Espiral is a great [...]

Once more, here is this first MAP of the new decade, January's edition of the Music Alliance Pact . For those of you who don't know about MAP, it's a collection of music blogs from around the world who band together once a month to shed light on up-and-comers from their home countries. It's sort of like the WTO without the human rights violations. After the jump you'll find music from 35 nations spanning the globe. If you'd like to be considered for this feature, drop by the comments section with a [...]

The Music Alliance Pact is a collective of 35 of the world's top music blogs and webzines from 35 countries spanning six continents. Every month, each of these 35 sites picks one hot local song that gets posted on all these great blogs and zines. This month we picked Mumbai singer-songwriter Noush Like Sploosh 's '3 Act Circus' as the Indian representative on this massive international indie mixtape. The song is featured on Stupid Stupid Stupid and is a pretty good measure of the work of one of our [...]

It's the 15th of February, Music Alliance pact day! Music Alliance Pact (MAP) is a collaboration between 34 blogs from all over the world, and every month, each of us present a new band from our country. All presentations are put together in this huge blogpost, and presented on the same day in all the MAP blogs. Massive promotion for the bands! Today, MAP is presented with an interview in the UK newspaper the Guardian. It should be online on their website today. My favourites this time includes Norway (of course), Argentina, Australia (wonderful [...]

Some people do their good worldly deeds by tirelessly seeking out the truth among the lies, or by turning their carbon footprint into a tiptoe, or making asylum seekers feel welcome. As much as The Pop Cop aspires to make a difference, to be something better, for now you'll just have to content yourself with the Music Alliance Pact, which takes you on a 35-stop journey through seven continents on the 15th of every month, bringing music from the untapped reaches of Estonia to the beach fronts of Copacabana and the back alleys of Beijing.

Kumm - [...]
