Eureka Birds from Maryland, Maryland, have realased a left-titled album field with carfeully constructed indie op rock songs. Lush arrangements bring back the days of the Kinks in their Muswell Hillbillies phase. Singer and main songwriter Justin Levy leads his band through chord changes and tempo shifts with ease. You Should Know Baltimore's Eureka Birds caught the attention of Tyler Watkins (producer/bassist of Margot And The Nuclear So & So's) with a few demos and the rest is history. Watkins helped record the band's recently released self-titled debut album in Indiana over the course of a year. The Margot connection makes sense considering both bands create melodic indie rock. Baltimore's Eureka Birds recently finished their debut, self-titled album. It is a beautifully arranged mix of piano and vocals, highlighted by emotive lyricism. Always a fan of simplistic and appealing indie rock, it's obvious to me that the band has learned to coordinate their rather large group quite nicely. It's been a while but Baltimore's Metro Gallery is back from vacation with a swell line up tonight with Jason Dove, Eureka Birds, The Falsies, and the Expontentials.
