Five Evan Dando covers you may or may not know prove his great talents are only matched by his great taste.
How many times have you found yourself thinking that very same thing this afternoon then, eh? Can you even count them on the one hand? If you're struggling to truck on into the weekend, then we've a rather apposite one to throw on and haul you through: the conjoining of the respective creative forces of Dinosaur Jr. main man J Mascis and the ever resplendent Sharon Van Etten , the collaboration is to my mind – and indeed my ears, as it just so transpires – something of a dream realised. In fact, I'd go so far as to [...]

Posted in listen Tom Morgan's name doesn't warrant a mention in the overview of The Lemonheads on the band's AllMusic profile yet the Australian songwriter who led Smudge played an integral part in Evan Dando's alt-rock heyday. Morgan and Dando collaborated on a number of songs on It's A Shame About Ray (including the title track) and Come On Feel the Lemonheads . In early February, Fire Records will release Morgan's debut solo [...]

>> We didn't expect to be learning stuff last Saturday night when we took in the big Varsity Drag show at Midway Cafe, so when fronter (and Lemonheads co-founder) Ben Deily laid out a surprising little history lesson for us, we were caught a bit off guard. We followed up this week with Mr. Deily who graciously reiterated his tale, which concerns one of our favorite Lemonheads songs, "Mallo Cup." When Evan Dando originally brought the song to the band, it bore the title "If Only You Were Dead," the [...]
If Sean Penn’s Fast Times at Ridgemont High character Jeff Spicoli and Trip Fontaine of The Virgin Suicides decided to have a lovechild, and said lovechild decided that when he grew up, he wanted to be a rock star, then said lovechild would surely have been Evan Dando . The perma-stoned, long-haired slacker singing songs about babies in prams, yet still managing to sleep with supermodels whilst playing Letterman. He's that kind of rock star. "We’re kind of winging it", muses Juliana Hatfield after bumbling onstage with Dando, the man clad in slip-on vans [...]

These dates looked like they may never happen. The ones in Europe had been cancelled because Juliana Hatfield was unable to make them, so Evan Dando did one on his own, which didn't go down that well, so they scrapped the rest. The UK ones don't seem to be that well organised either. The Institute’s Facebook said this morning that stage times would be up later. They were, at about 7.30pm, half an hour after the doors had opened and I’d already arrived there straight from work. Now we learn that the guys are on [...]

[PHOTO: Dando and Deily in 2010 by Joshua Pickering , used with permission] Perhaps it's not a bombshell on the order of the Mittens video , but Ryan Adams ' tweet last night announcing he is producing a new Lemonheads record featuring both Evan Dando AND Ben Deily , as well as Juliana Hatfield on bass, certainly shook the earth for music fans. We caught up with Mr. Deily this morning, who confirmed the news and told us he will fly to Los Angeles tomorrow [...]

Nothing ever happened with the Fucking Virgins , the space-rock supergroup featuring Ryan Adams, Evan Dando, Melissa Auf Der Maur, and James Iha, but either way, kindred souls Adams and Dando seemed destined to work together at some point. That point, it appears, is this weekend. According to a couple Twitter posts, Adams will produce the new Lemonheads album, which will feature the band's co-founders Dando and Ben Deily, as well as Juliana Hatfield on bass. Adams will join the band, too, on drums. "Dream come true," tweeted Adams. "Back to the punker sounds." Here's the scoop from the [...]

Evan Dando - Fade To Black [Metallica] | bx . watch the original
Samantha Brick, you think you’ve got it bad eh? PAH. Try being Evan Dando. This is a man that has spent the past 20 years being vilified for being ridiculously good looking. At the time of grunge, self loathing and skag, the music press balked at the idea that any kind of angst could lie beneath those luscious locks. They painted him as a stoner pop prince, relegated to contending with ‘frightful’ screamagers and doing the ‘Biscuit Tin’ questions in Smash Hits, not to be taken seriously like King Kurt. Maybe it was his own fault, with his undying love [...]
The Lemonheads were in Dublin to play It's a Shame About Ray in its entirety.

I think of metal and its various forms only peripherally, as some other tribe's music, acknowledged as valid yet neither understood nor experienced from the outside. But because metal rose in the sixties and seventies, a warped response to blues rock and the psychedelics that raised intensity to a level previously unheard, I have always known it; its culture is largely unchanged in nature, focusing on a core fashion and the shared experience of the live event, even as it attracts new generations. And, as within our ever-popular 2009 exploration of Punk through coverage , though [...]
