>> At long last we have new music from Boston shoegaze dynamos Bedroom Eyes , an act that was sidelined for months when its second guitarist suffered a broken hand last fall. That guitarist has now left the band and after briefly considering augmenting the remaining three-piece with a keyboard player, Bedroom Eyes has elected to continue on as a trio. Earlier this month the act updated its Bandcamp offerings with a new demo of a song called "Ripe," its first recorded effort in the new trio configuration. The tune commences with a clean, articulated [...]

Words by Jacob Barron I say this to people around me enough to make them reconsider hanging out with me, but dammit, just pick one, winter. This year it's been either annoyingly mild or heart-stoppingly freezing outside, at least in Baltimore. In a weekend it'll both top 60 degrees and dip below 20. Which is it, winter? Hot or cold? Make up your damn mind so I can put my t-shirts away. Winter, at least this year, is a season that's aggressively trolling us all with unseasonable warmth coupled with arctic [...]

( email | facebook | twitter ) That's what they say . We report, you decide. (Below the picture is their last attempt at an album preview, which sent TMIM staff into four weeks of insomnia.)
This nugget of news from yesterday passed us by until a few moments ago - being in London, we've been kinda concentrating on the rioting sparking up on our doorsteps - but apparently Norway's national public service broadcaster, NRK, is going to send Mayhem's longtime bassplayer, Necrobutcher, over to Arizona to be exorcised by Bob [...]

While perusing through my music library the other day I realized just how many of my favorite songs from the last year included spoken word introductions, either as samples, recordings, or by the artists themselves. This prompted further exploration and after a bit more searching I was able to round up enough spoken intro songs to warrant a mix. Some ground rules: I didn't include count-ins (one, two, three, FOUR!), studio talk ("Jim, can you record the talk back?"), spoken word portions in the middle of the song ("Graveyard Girl") or songs that are entirely spoken word ("Century of Elvis"). [...]

Hopefully, there's a good bit of reflection, discovery and enjoyment when listening to these albums [...]

EVANGELICALS THE EVENING DESCENDS (Dead Oceans) by Joey Cook of FIRS The Evening Descends flows brilliantly; it sounds amazing; the songs are almost perfect. It's like a modern-day "Days of Future Past," if the day were Halloween. ed note: We're pretty sure this album was actually released in 2008, but we're not here to pass any judgments on people's picks!
