In the late nineties, So Much For The Afterglow was the soundtrack to every teen movie poolside BBQ your licensors could get their mitts on. Oh, there have been other records since, [...]

Ep.535 - Summerland Tour @ Bridgestone Arena - Nashville, TN 8-6-12 Summerland Tour Video Concert Reviews The end of summer is quickly approaching, and what better way to close it out than by listening to hits that accompanied some of my favorite summers? From what I gather, the Summerland Tour is the brainchild of Everclear’s frontman, Art Alexais, and features Lit, Marcy Playground, Gin Blossoms, Sugar Ray, and Everclear. I thought I skipped out on [...]
At the tender age of 12, one of my closest friends decorated her birthday cake with a picture of Mark McGrath . If you spent any time around popular culture in the ‘90s, you’ve probably seen it: the smirk that launched a thousand Candie’s ads, frosted tips, and Fruit of the Loom boxers down to there. I knew that picture well because it was also plastered above my friend’s guest bed, along with wall-to-wall cutouts from the pages of Twist and Seventeen of celebs like Sisqo, Josh Hartnett, and James Van Der Beek. McGrath was [...]
I grossly underestimated the number of 30-somethings who work hard but party harder and who really, really like their mid-90s alt-radio-rock. This underestimation caused me to miss Marcy Playground's entire set as I stood in line with my 30-something cousin who was attending only his second ever concert. We still made it in time to see LIT (surprisingly modern sounding), Gin Blossoms (looking old but with probably the most recognizable set of songs of the night), Sugar Ray (way more entertaining than expected) [...]

There's one tour that everyone around my age have been buzzing about this summer. Is it Warped? No! Is it Coldplay? Nope! Is it a collection of five bands that we listened to in high school? HELL YES! For one summer only, Lit, Everclear, Gin Blossoms, Marcy Playground and Sugar Ray are all playing together on the Summerland Tour . Even better, Lit released a new album "The View From The Bottom" featuring the single "C'mon" (listen below). We know ...
Everclear Invisible Stars eOne Music [2012] Fire Note Says: If you were a fan in the past you just might like the new Everclear. The band itself has went through tons of [...]

Everclear – Invisible Stars (CD)
Everclear – Invisible Stars (CD) You know you’re getting old when those bands that first surfaced in your college years are now touring as a packaged nostalgia acts alongside fellow graying rock bands. Everclear – Invisible Stars album review
Alternative pop-rock is not dead. Repeat: alternative pop-rock is not dead. It just isn’t that pop anymore. The group of bands that held court on Total Request Live around the turn of this century have, for the most part, faded out of the limelight or broken up (in some cases, with the members breaking up, embarking on splintered side projects and realizing quickly that the whole was far greater than the sum of the parts). Like the contemporaneous teen angst film genre, alternative pop-rock had a solid run at the top and influenced plenty of music, for better [...]

Tuesday: Summerland Tour at the LC (Everclear, Sugar Ray, Gin Blossoms, LIT, Marcy Playground)
A week ago it was the early '90s hair metal festival ( America Rocks ) at the Alrosa. This week it's the mid-90s alt-radio rock festival ( Summerland Tour ) at the LC (outdoors). Headlined by Everclear (who, like a majority of the bands on the America Rocks tour, has only one original member, lead singer - Art Alexakis) and Sugar Ray , the undercard on this bill is stacked with bands that had one or two hits played to death (due to requests, undoubtedly) by CD101 ( Marcy Playground - [...]
