By: Brendan One of my favorite songs this past year has been "Hold On" by Alabama Shakes - it is now available for download as a free, legal mp3 on Amazon as part of the MTV Artists Sampler. Kodaline, Stars, ... Continue reading ’

Fusing bespectacled, bygone and thoroughly-English narrative voices with bonkers keyboard adventures isn't an obvious route to anthem-making.  But that's the very way that Public Service Broadcasting - who are J. Willgoose Esq. and Wrigglesworth, no less - have managed to make a blogger in Islington gasp and nearly cry with excitement.  They do so via their newest song, Everest , which is captivating, glorious and, frankly, because no other word will do here, brilliant.  Just brilliant.  It follows a WWII-focused The War Room EP, and ROYGBIV  too, and is better, I think: a step up, [...]

Going through the motions like a fake, uninterested being of bogus individuality and worldly repeated ignorance, ATO Records 2012 Fall Sampler provides you with a refreshing opposite to an overly used and a misinformed trait of accepted common belief. Striking the ground with a bunch of heavenly rock matches on this sampler, is a couple of exhibits from Alabama Shakes, Two Gallants and Everest. Taking you through the alternative vain is Other Lives’ ‘Take Us Alive,’ but not before reaching the finishing line with ATO’s two shapely front runners via the remarkable ‘Hold On When You [...]
What a year. More than 140 Los Angeles-sired albums passed through the Buzz Bands LA headphones this year, not counting EPs, mixtapes and singles. Judging from the detritus at my desk — handwritten lists, stacks of CDs, press releases — and my unopened emails, there were a lot more out there. It came in all flavors. 2012 was a robust year for folkies and faux-folkies, hard rock and harder rock, for electro and popgazers, for scads of seemingly interchangeable garage-rockers, for radio bands and scruffy DIYers, for electronic dance music and electronic dumb music, for R&B and glitch&B [...]
More efforts for Hurricane Sandy relief are popping up in the tri-state region this weekend, beginning with a show headlined by none other than Shakey himself. Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Trey Anastasio of Phish, and Everest have collaboratively organized a benefit show at The Borgata in Atlantic City for this evening. Proceeds from tonight's ... photos by Gretchen Robinette , words by Andrew Sacher When Neil Young walked out in a saggy red flannel last night (11/27) at the Madison Square Garden stop on his first tour with Crazy Horse in almost a decade , the "Godfather of Grunge" alarms were going off like crazy. And while you can't necessarily pin a man's style of music to his choice of attire for the evening, once Neil and Crazy Horse began jamming, their [...]

this song. fuck its the best thing I have heard in ages. really liked their first ep, but this takes things to a whole new level. krautrocky, mixing spoken word samples (thus the name) with a post punk via british sea power kind of undertone. its just ace.

The War [...]
New single Everest by Public Service Broadcasting (a trio from London " Teaching the lessons of the past through the music of the future ") is based on 1953 documentary The Conquest of Everest and mixes a wonderful instrumental track with spoken parts from the film. The end result is absolutely stunning or as someone wrote on Youtube , this is " Absolutely breathtaking, both musically and visually " [...]
Everest come forth with heavy guitars, blaring solos and that classic rock sound. ATO Records, 2012 8.5 / 10.0 Aside from being handpicked by Neil Young to open for him, Everest have played with many classic rock bands, and their music is evidence enough to see why. But what [...]
