One of the most exciting young producers in the world of Electronic Dance Music has set the stage for a huge year with the release of 'Catch Fire'. A master of meshing classical music with electro house, Taylor Thomas has begun to carve out a niche and develop a signature sound that won't be forgotten after your first listen. The 17 year old Dallas native is also developing some very usuful production tutorials through his YouTube channel and has begun work on a Soundset series with supplementalsounds.com . Make sure you hop on the Taylor Thomas bandwagon by following his social [...]

Geoff Farina: The Wishes Of The Dead - Geoff Farina is a singer/songwriter from Chicago, IL. You may recognize Farina from the work he did as the frontman of Karate : An indie rock outfit based in Boston that infused elements of jazz and classic rock into a sleek and modern hybrid. His solo work, however, is more of a stripped-down affair comprising of his distinct spoken-word singing style and acoustic guitar. Earlier records incorporated his electric guitar soloing along with the more traditional setup of guitar and voice, but more recent records have him [...]

"Can't Change Me" is a fantastic track- it's fast and angry and clever. 21 year old Lydia Loveless kicks ass and takes names with this song, establishing herself as a writer and performer well beyond her years. Lydia Loveless - Can't Change Me Lydia Loveless is hitting Colorado this week for a run of shows: 1/12 at the Larimer Lounge, Denver 1/13 at the Woodcellar Bar and Grill, Evergreen 1/14 at the Outlaw Snowdown, Pagosa Springs

It's difficult for me to say but I'm not sure I can relate to this single. I want to but I don't feel I can. Though this is probably built on my 'old man' taste and traditional views on music. That all said, the tune has been bathed in good production and layered efficively to create a sonically fantasti... Read more..

Remember when we spoke about Californian whizz kid Therapies Son back way back in March ? Good yeah? Well as 2k11 has progressed, the brainchild behind that certain venture has moved onto a new jaunt as tripped out avant garde act Fantasy Island . continue reading >>
Convergent evolution is when two completely separate lineages evolve similar features. In nature we see this with the Sugar Glider and the Flying Squirrel (there's your daily bit of knowledge). Outside of nature we can see this between Dub & Dubstep. The former came out of 19602s Reggae with a focus on remixing original tracks through bringing [...]

The Big Junction Jam Festival was held at the Palace Grounds in Bangalore on June 18-19. Billed as a "confluence of music, art and food", the festival featured a massive number of upcoming acts along with a few familiar names like Swarathma , Kryptos , Evergreen (pictured) and Sulk Station . We were there. Disappointing turnout on both days - daily attendance averaged out to about 150 people. Unsurprisingly, the massive lineup proved to be unwieldy. Poor time management led to bands' sets being cut to [...]

Bangalore's Palace Grounds will host The Big Junction Jam Festival next weekend, on June 11-12. The event, billed as a "confluence of music, art and food" features a massive number of upcoming acts along with a few familiar names as headliners including Evergreen, Agam, Swarathma (pictured), Kryptos, Blakc and Sulk Station. As mentioned, apart from the musical aspect of the festival, food and art will also be showcased via their own set of events. The highlight of food festival is a demonstration of Headbanger's Kitchen , the cookery project of metal impresario Sahil 'Demonstealer' Makhija. Amongst the [...]

The lineup features ten international acts from within the subcontinent, Europe and the Middle East. Among them are repeat visitors NERVECELL and Cyanide Serenity, both acts that have toured the country in 2010. Two-day tickets are priced at an extremely reasonable Rs 1,000. The first edition of Deccan Rock was held in Bangalore in 2009, and featured metal heavyweights Amon Amarth and Textures. [...]
Kochi alt/prog rockers Evergreen recently released a new track titled 'From Here To Clarity - Sam's Version' on the band's ReverbNation page . Firmly on the bandwagon, the song was dedicated to India's victorious cricket team. Poorly mixed with iffy drum samples and affected vocals, the vanilla version of 'From Here To Clarity' (released earlier by the band) is a fairly unremarkable track, reminiscent of GIR demos circa late '90s. 'Sam's Version' strips away most of that faux-grandeur and takes the song into a decidedly more progressive space, especially when compared to the heavy [...]

| Undercovered is a new series where our favourite musicians wax lyrical about a song they think is deserving of more attention | By Allen Blighe ( The Spook of The Thirteenth Lock ) Captain A is an experimental folk band based in Letterkenny. Originally a vehicle for Eoghan Holland's recording experiments, Captain A solidified into a lineup of guitar, double bass, harp keys and male/female dueting vocals, a pastoral, gentle psychedelic sound that evokes Irish folk, classical and 602s folk. Part Chieftains, part Incredible String band, part [...]
Staunch reggae fans are probably emerging from the haze and re-learning how to use their computers about now. What have these dub-heads been doing for the past couple days? Listening to the absolutely smashing Diplo compilation Riddimentary , of course ( read the details here ). In honor of this terrific release, Wobble Wednesday is going all dubstep+reggae this week. Turn up the bass and get these slow jams rollin. As always, ragey filth music formally known as dubstep will arrive at the upcoming Filthy Friday . Dubly and lovely, @Crimestein [Audio [...]
Kochi alt rock act Evergreen has a new song out titled 'City Blocks'. The song ( previewed earlier ) will feature on the band's forthcoming album Singularity. 'City Blocks' builds with an encouraging melody reminiscent of the dearly '00s power pop of bands like Dashboard Confessional and Jack's Mannequin. The first 40 seconds or so of this builder are discouragingly deceptive as they immediately give way to vocalist Jagan George's incredibly jarring, accented lyrics. The immediately apparent imbalance in the vocal mix further highlights the disaccord. Think Junkyard Groove's Ameeth Thomas [...]
Kochi five-piece rock act Evergreen has released a promo for their new upcoming song 'City Blocks'. This song will be on Singularity , their next original release after the 2008 album Between and Beyond. The band has recorded with Rex Vijayan of Avial and with a new drummer. They liveblogged their entire video shoot. Here's an excerpt: This was the first time we used a make up artist - someone had to make us look presentable! Actually, aside from this he had to make us [...]

Ra Cailum: Evergreens I'm (once again) late to the punch on this, but the shimmering retro sounds of Ra Cailum's Leaving EP are too wonderful not to share. While this release will likely be branded as chillwave, it doesn't stay faithful to any particular genre; as noted here , these 8 songs run the gamut from choppy synth-funk ("Perceptions", "Worthless Exchange"), to breezy, low-key soundscapes ("June, "August"). Danceable standout "Evergreens" builds around dissipating drums and groovy flourishes, with [...]

by reyna ► It's been a big month for Fang Island having announced tour dates in July with the Flaming Lips. On top of that, here's a studio session they did for Insound of their prized single "Daisy" Artist: Fang Island [...]

Evergreen formed from the ashes of local Louisville hardcore faves, Cinderblock, and solidified as an actual band when Louisville native and former Slint drummer Britt Walford (also of The Breeders, Palace Music, etc.) joined in on drums and recorded their only LP with soon-to-be DFA/LCD Soundsystem guy James Murphy. The end result is a killer mix of moody post rock and punk ragers, a friendly tug-of-war between two styles that seem counter-intuitive (if not impossible) to mix.
