So here's the first half of my list of favorite albums of 2010. It seems like every year that passes brings more new music than the one before and (again) this is no exception. What an amazing time for indie rock. Each year we take issue with proclamations that any given set of 365 days was better or worse than any other set of 365 days, but we were very excited by what we heard this year, and what we think we'll be hearing next year. To say we get a lot of CDs in the mail would be a major understatement and sometimes the stack gets so big that we miss out on some solid bands. Such is the case with Philly band Everyone Everywhere . These guys released their debut self-titled LP over the summer and have been working hard ever since to make a name for themselves. lycanthropyI don't know how else to explain Everyone Everywhere's S/T debut other than it is a great straightforward indie rock record! For the most part, the album is very melodic sounding; most of the songs comprise of dynamic instrumental layers and Brendan McHugh's passionate singing. I am really enjoying it at the moment and I highly recommend it—maybe because Everyone Everywhere sounds like one of my favourite bands from the 90s, The Promise Ring. ...and kids, this is what real emo sounds like, very different from those whinny pop-punk and wannabe hardcore bands you are bombarded with.
