This Saturday night in Denver will mark the final show of my favorite Colorado musical collective, the vibrant Everything Absent Or Distorted . Drawing together a minimum of eight members (but often more), this band has burst with explosive melodies and the potential to fill -literally and figuratively- every stage they've occupied, from the local to national level , and beyond. With their electric guitars, banjos, pianos, trombones, cellos, and pots & pans, they have given me an immense amount of joy and catharsis in the last two years - so much so [...]
Here's the first of two EAOD shows from the UMS . In case you haven't heard, the band is calling it quits . Plans for one final farewell (along with a final 4-song EP) are in the works for this fall. What is the UMS you ask? Well that's a silly question. Many have called the Denver Post Underground Music Showcase the "South by Southwest of Denver." Originally a one day, four band gig at the Bluebird, this showcase has bounced between Bluebird and Gothic before finally moving (and exanding) to South Broadway in the historic Baker district. Otherwise known as the hipster herding grounds. Excerpted directly from the UMS About page: "At the UMS , the presentation of the music is as important as the music itself. It's the songwriter circle in the Persian rug boutique; [...]
Yesterday was the 15th Annual Westword Music Showcase and one of the best turnouts I've seen at this Denver event. A few days ago I posted a Special Edition Snobcast where I wrote an extensive preview about the bands I felt were highlights this year. This wasn't meant to diminish any of the other bands playing, it's just that in most cases I had already seen many of the other bands worth seeing. So now that the showcase is over and done with I'm sure you're wondering to yourself (or maybe even out-loud), "Hey Father Guido! [...]

The Golden Triangle sounds like a mystic land of enigma from which no one returns, but it's actually the area of Denver that the 15th annual Westword Music Showcase will overrun Saturday with 85+ ace bands, both local and national. On Saturday, come peruse ten stages of goodness with me; we'll see local bands worth vigorously loving like Everything Absent or Distorted , Young Coyotes and Houses , as well as influential Denver punk pioneers [...]

You people out East do not know what goodness awaits you next week, as my favorite Denver band Everything Absent Or Distorted takes to the road for an extremely rare tour. As I wrote in my review for the Denver Post last time I saw 'em, "I love to stand beneath their waves of massive, visceral sound that galvanizes the band and the audience as one. As I leaned against the stage as the final notes died away, catching my breath, I commented to [...]

The end of last year was a nightmare for me of long hours in hospital rooms, soundtracked by the beeping and whooshing of intimidating machines under a sickly halogen buzz. As I confronted very real fears and my absolute inability to do anything other than hold a warm, dry hand and sing the occasional song, I lacked the words to express how that feels. Everything Absent or Distorted is a band of wonderful guys from Denver whose new release The Great Collapse incisively explores some of these themes that [...]
