One of the most interesting and powerful albums to come out in 2011 is the UK band Everything Everything 's Man Alive . The instrumentation mixes rock with electronic and catchy guitar riffs with Broadway musical song structures. The singer sounds like he is constantly passing between different dimensions, trying to get the words out before the world collapses around him, with backing harmonies that would make Queen jealous. The lyrics are mysterious and follow a strange, yet alluring dystopia. The album begins with a song described by the band as their take on a 90s [...]

"Airstrike On Your Forehead" is Everything Everything 's song that eventually became "MY KZ UR BF". "We decided AOYF was too straight and ploddy in this format and wanted to shake it up a bit by changing the feel of the verses. Lyrically the idea is the same, only in the finished version I had to strip it down to the core of the narrative to fit. An early version of MY KZ actually started with a single finger click and then all of us shouting any note, which was held for a few seconds [...]
![[EXCLUSIVE] Everything Everything – "Airstrike On Your Forehead" (MY KZ UR BF demo)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3639022_lg.jpg)
eyes on the roof of my mouth, i discover that it's gonna be hard So one of my favorite albums of 2010 was just shortlisted for the Mercury Prize and we have an exclusive Everything Everything jam to celebrate with! "Airstrike on Your Forehead" is an early demo of "MY KZ UR BF" and if you know the song (you should) then you will recognize it immediately. You will also hear that lots changed before the final version. "Airstrike" creeps and lurks in ways that "MY KZ" preferred to spazz [...]
Touching down from their current high of a 2011 Mercury music prize nomination earlier in the week, Everything Everything are the headliners of tonight's Converse curated gig at London's prestigious 100 Club. The band's debut album 'Man Alive' reached #17 in the UK album charts upon its release and has achieved critical acclaim from the likes of the BBC, the Times and NME. Before the Mancunian electro-indie quartet take to the stage, though, it's tonight's only support band, Romance. The Local four-piece rockers [...]

2 days ago in London, the shortlist for the 20th edition of the Barclaycard Mercury Prize Album of the Year was announced. The list: Adele – 21 Anna Calvi – Anna Calvi Elbow – Build A Rocket Boys! [...]
I wanna know what happened to your boyfriend Cause he was looking at me like woah Photo by satansmothers Is it ok to really really like Everything Everything? Being not from England (the four-piece band hails from Manchester), I am pretty unaware of their reputation other than what I've read on music blogs, and as we all know (and if my own is any indication), music blogs can be pretty biased.

Ooh, look, Elbow got a nomi-- SUDDEN URGE TO GET A BARCLAYCARD. As anyone with a passing interest in music or a twitter account will likely have noted, yesterday saw not only Rupert Murdoch get a cream pie in the face, but also the announcement of the nominees for this year's Mercury Prize. As ever, from the second they were announced, much discussion (i.e. bitching and whining) was sparked - so here's my by-no-means-definitive two cents: OK, first off I have a big confession to make, which might shock most of you. [...]

Jean-Baptiste Mondino Thanks to the fact that the United Kingdom exists five hours into the future, I woke up yesterday morning just in time to see the short list for this year's Mercury Prize - awarded annually to the best album in the UK and Ireland - commandeer my Twitter feed for a short while. The process by which the shortlist and winner is selected isn't entirely clear to me - it's not as transparent as Canada's Polaris Prize - but in a way that mysteriousness makes it more interesting. Even [...]

Anna Calvi The shortlist for the Annual Barclayard Mercury Prize , (aka, the UK Album of the Year), was announced on July 20, 2011 and it includes several acts who will be coming through NYC in the near future. For those of you haven't seen the complete list yet, here's what it looks like: 2011 Mercury Prize Shortlist Adele, 21 Anna Calvi, Anna Calvi Elbow, Build a Rocket Boys! Everything [...]

The U.K.'s annual Mercury Prize for best album seems more newsworthy than the Grammys to us for a couple of reasons. First of all, there's only one Mercury, given to one artist, not a jillion different awards for every genre, so it carries a lot more weight right off the bat. Secondly, whether it's because they've got a sharper crew doing the voting or just that the Brits are hipper when it comes to basic music savvy, each year's nominees are almost always pretty damn cool. Since they started giving the prize out in 1992, winners have included The [...]
Congratulations to all of the just-nominated artists whose albums have been deemed up for the 2011 Mercury Prize award, including TCOM favorites Katy B, James Blake, Tinie Tempah, Metronomy and Everything Everything. Adele's going to win, though (almost too obviously). Maybe Elbow? Your thoughts guys? The winner will be announced on September 6 live on BBC Two and 6 Music. The 2011 Album of the Year nominations are: Adele - 21 Anna Calvi - Anna Calvi Elbow - Build a Rocket Boys! [...]

In a rather predictable announcement, Lauren Laverne earlier today revealed all 12 of the albums nominated for this years Mercury Prize.

My word, is it that time of year again already? Today the nominations for the Mercury Music Prize album shortlist have been announced (live on facebook! how refreshingly 'now'!). I'm writing this first paragraph in advance of the actual nominations themselves, partly to save time, but also to see if I can guess in advance which bands will be picked. So, my predictions are that amongst the nominees there will be at least one of each of the following categories: A Token 'Jazzy' Act: The Mercury's sense of righteous self-esteem rests on the fact that [...]
The Mercury Prize is the annual award given to the best album from the United Kingdom and Ireland. Last year, The xx took home the honors , and other past recipients include Arctic Monkeys, Pulp, Portishead, Primal Scream, Badly Drawn Boy, and Antony and the Johnsons. The nominees for 2011 were announced earlier this morning and notables include Adele's 21 , PJ Harvey's Let England Shake (she previously won in 2001 for Stories from the [...]

Yesterday we posted Part One of Paul Brown's Latitude Diary. It only seems right that Part Two should follow... Bah-titude (Photo by Jodie Brown) Saturday After a scorching hot Friday, it's no major surprise that it starts pissing down on Saturday. A bit of rain shouldn't really throw a pair of North-East residents off-kilter, but we still spend the morning drifting around trying [...]
Exciting developments in the house. After months of begging, my brother (CREM - his initials) has finally agreed to contribute to LOOSE L!PS. If there's one person who can point me in the direction of my new favorite song, it's him (though I begrudgingly admit it). He'll be contributing a monthly wrap up of his latest gotta-have songs, which--if this month's group is any indication--are likely
