Tweet Hey gang! It's a first here at TBWTTIHS! This blog post from here on in will be one that for the first time will be written by a guest blogger! This one is from my dear friend from Dallas, Miss Krystal Garcia aka La Mexicangla Almighty. Won't you give her a warm round of applause as she takes center stage and kicks some knowledge on a band I'd been meaning to post about for quite some time now. And now without further ado, take it away, Krystal! [...]

Many labels have been used to describe the music of Exit Calm , from "shoe gazer" to "psychedelic" to "space rock". But none have been far more appropriate, or more eloquent for that matter, than the tag given to them by Mani of Stone Roses/Primal Scream: "makers of proper f*cking music." Since 2007, this South Yorkshire band has been crafting a sound of rich in sonic layers of heavy basslines and Edge-influenced guitars, slightly reminiscent to that of very early Echo & the Bunnymen and the Verve (you know, the stuff before "Bittersweet Symphony"). The results have been [...]

Its been a busy few years for Exit Calm, with gigs played nationwide and support places filled for Echo and the Bunnymen. The release of a fine debut album has seen the band build a steady fan base and quickly gain plaudits for their inspiring live shows. Fine endorsements have also followed, from amongst others Huw Stevens of Radio 1 and former Inspiral Carpets member and XFM DJ Clint Boon, who ordered anyone within ear shot to "File Under The Greatest Rock Bands Of All Time." I had the fortune to hear Nicky Smith and Rob Marshall [...]

Those nice people behind the club night and indie label ClubAC30 have given me some goodies to share with you guys! First up they are running a three night series of gigs taking over the ICA in the Mall London (UK). These will run under the Reverence banner. Friday 17th September: The first night the Reverence #3 series features the sonic assault of Oslo's Serena Maneesh, whose recent album on 4AD rightly received many excellent reviews. Support comes from the epic and intense sounds of Exit Calm, hailed by many as [...]

South Yorkshire shoe-gazers Exit Calm are due to release another track from their début album, called 'Dont Look Down'

When you hear about an up-and-coming band from South Yorkshire, it's easy to instantly dismiss them as just another Arctic Monkeys rip-off merchant. Not this lot, though. Whilst forming another chapter in the northern indie scene, Exit Calm are nothing like the region's favourite sons. For a start, they're from Barnsley, not Sheffield, and are very unlikely, and probably unwilling... Read more..

I was unsure of what to expect from Exit Calm when I caught them live on Sunday. I had become a massive fan of their music over the previous months after discovering the debut album on a recommendation. It was trepidation and wonder as I waited for the band to come on to the tiny stage at Wolverhampton. I considered it a real challenge for the band to reproduce their massive wall of sound and the beautiful moments that had graced their self-titled album into a live show. Before the band had even played a note, guitarist Rob Marshall came onto the stage [...]

Following the release of their self titled debut album on May 17th, South Yorkshire shoegazers, Exit Calm are to play a series of UK dates in June.

Words: Gareth O'Malley Miss The Verve ? We do too. Not the incarnation that reared its ugly head on their woeful 'comeback' album (said comeback lasted pretty long, right?!), 'Forth'. Nor even the band that created the lawsuit-baiting 'Bitter Sweet Symphony'. We're talking about The Verve . Y'know, from their 'A Northern Soul' days, when they were at their peak. Those of you who are of a like mind will rejoice at the emergence of Exit Calm (if you haven't been doing so already), a South Yorkshire-based quartet [...]

It's late 2006 and a friend pushes a CD into my hands. "You'll love this", she whispered. Bearing in mind that this same friend had said that I'd love the new Britney album at the time, I wasn't holding out much hope. However, when I pressed play, The Sunshine Underground blew me away. It was like the early 90s had come back, got good and very very catchy. Sadly I missed them on the NME tour in 2007 when they toured with Klaxons and CSS but finally they decided to come to Oxford, where [...]

Now I think it was Kip who first posted these guys in the spring time. At the time he beat me to the punch, but if you have not checked out Exit Calm yet please do. Drawing comparisons from more than one seasoned commentator to My Bloody Valentine, I'm told the live shows oozes star quality. The band are following up the critically acclaimed limited release "Higher Learning" with this baby, entitled "Were On Our Own" which drops on October 27th via clubAC30. [...]

South Yorkshire's Exit Calm was kind enough to allow me to share their single "Awake". The single was released on clubAC30 this past February and sold out in 3 days! The only thing bigger than the wall of sound this band creates is the current buzz whirling around them in the UK. Check out "Awake" and let me know what you think. "Who's gonna be big 2008? Exit Calm... Yorkshire four-piece whose brooding widescreen croon-along anthems are well worth seeking [...]
