So here's a little experiment. I'll put all of the recent albums I haven't written about yet on random and write something about the first five tracks that come up. Here goes! Brand New - "Handcuffs" - The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me ( pre-order ) Starts off with plaintive guitar strumming and lyrics dripping with emotions-regret, sorrow, longing, etc etc. Some fairly impressive production tricks that sound, honestly, pretty great on these headphones, but where is this song going? [...]

The Exploding Hearts "Throwaway Style (Alternate Mix)" - This is what I had to say about this song on May 23, 2003: This is sort of like a low budget sequel to the Strokes' "Last Nite" with the original cast replaced with total unknowns. It's a lot of fun, all the same. The thing is, three years down the line, "Last Nite" sounds more like a big-budget remake full of posh actors that aren't nearly as charming as the scrappy amateurs of "Throwaway Style." They're both great songs (in [...]

image courtesy of Toothpaste for Dinner Before we get started with this week's Graboid, let me clear up a few things about all these older files hosted by EZarchive. The last post I made about it was posted completely out of anger and I wasn't too clear about what exactly was going on. I'm still getting a lot of emails to fix a lot of the now (as of Nov. 1st) broken links from Oct. 25th and earlier. When EZarchive decided to go to it's 3.0 version they sent us [...]
A day late, eleventy billion dollars short. Don't tread on me. Paul Simon, "Think Too Much" (a) - I'm honestly not sure if I can remember a time where I followed music on the internet without encountering an ever-rising tide of people touting the superiority of Paul Simon's Hearts and Bones over its ever-so-slightly-more-successf ul younger brother Graceland . Obviously, on some level this has to be motivated by simple overexposure; Graceland pretty much was to my generation's parents what American Idiot would later be to our newphews and [...]
![Idolator [Hearts] The Exploding Hearts](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/270245_lg.jpg)
There are only a handful of bands that your Idolators believe to be completely infallible, and the Exploding Hearts are one of them. Even though three of the band members were killed in a 2003 auto crash, their Guitar Romantic album--a power-pop pièce de resistance --attracts new fans every year; in fact, the band's posthumous following is so widespread, it helped spur the release of this month's Shattered , a long-promised odds-and-sods compilation. Two of our favorite Shattered tracks are below, and we implore you to head over to Dirtnap Records and pick up [...]

Ugh. Long, shitty day of school and work. However, I keep reminding myself that there’s an Exploding Hearts b-sides comp coming out on October 2, and at some point, it’s going to pass through the music staff at KJHK. That keeps me going, kids… and Dirtnap Records gets a big “thank ...

As per their Wikipedia entry... "The Exploding Hearts were a punk rock / power pop band from Portland, Oregon. The band was comprised of vocalist Adam Cox, bassist Matt Fitzgerald, guitarist Terry Six and drummer Jeremy Gage. During the early 2000s the band rose to prominence in the US Pacific Northwest punk / new wave scene with a combination of energetic live shows and extremely well received singles. The band drew their influence from early British punk bands like The Undertones, The Jam, The Boys and The Buzzcocks, [...]
