Please note that this is called the Remmcast, rather than the Ariyemcast, for little better reason than that it sounds better. R.E.M. split up this week, which is sort of like the death of an elderly relative: you know it's sad, and you mourn the loss, but they hadn't been themselves for a while, everyone knew it was probably coming, and maybe it's for the best after all. Due to not really wanting to pontificate too much, I haven't really produced what could be in any way described as a 'career retrospective' or anything, nor have [...]

This is called the Fullcast for no better reason than that I tried to fit far too many songs onto the playlist. I've have used half the Palmist Records stable if possible, but eventually decided to settle for one single track. There's always next week. I didn't even make room for a song from the new Clap Your Hands Say Yeah record, although to be fair I haven't really listened to that enough to really know what I think about it, so maybe that would have been hasty. If anything this reminded me of the really [...]

And the parade continues... I forget how much fun I had making these. Blogophilia 11 was released in September 2009. If you've been following along, you should have noticed that I am deep in my "Intro" phase for mixes. I am not sure why I stopped that. Maybe that's something to consider for next mix. The highlights for #11 are All the Kings Men by Wild Beasts and Sleep All Summer by The National and Saint Vincent . I apologize for putting the Pete Yorn tune on [...]

Photography by Me ... Well my friends, the time has come. The break the rules and have some fun. It's been a nutty 4+ someodd years over here at tsururadio, we've gone through a lot of changes, did everything from mixtapes to vinyl rips, contests to out and out giveaways, we always tried to have fun and keep ourselves in check that we are just music bloggerin', like 4 kabillion other kids out there on the wide world interconnected super highway of love canals. But as [...]
Playing ribfest sounds like a punchline, for sure. But in recent years the organizers of Chicago's Ribfest in North Center have booked some decent musical acts. This year's lineup includes some locals, including Waco Brothers, My Gold Mask and Ezra Furman & the Harpoons . There are also sets by garage rockers The Ettes , rockabilly vets the Legendary Shack Shakers , country rocker Hayes Carll and the Twin Cities' Tapes 'n Tapes . All in all, it's a good lineup ... especially for a ribfest. [...]
Summerfest considers itself the world's largest music festival - they even had Guinness certify that fact for them back in '99. Spanning 11 days, the Milwaukee, WI-based shindig features over 700 acts playing across 11 stages. And when it comes to revealing the lineup for this massive beast, it proves a multi-month process that began last winter and ended today with the announcement for the festival's final headliner - that honor goes to Jason Mraz. As for the other world-famous acts set to play in 2011? Kanye West (w/ Kid Cudi), Peter Gabriel and the New Blood Orchestrea, Kid [...]
Ladies, you'll pretend you dont know your boyfriends when beholding theses heroes.

Photography by me ... Last week, one of our own got hit by a car while riding his bike to a concert, Dyson of dyson sound and this humble little collective. As you know, I ride my bike, let's just say, a lot. It can be nutsos out there, bad drivers, bad cyclists, bad roads, and lots of really bad people. I don't know all the circumstances of Matt's accident, but we here at the paper crane collective wish him nothing but best wishes and get wells and hugs and [...]

I am learning to despise hotel internet. Whether I book myself and end up staying in a fucking Travelodge or Mrs. Toad books and we end up staying on one of the larger guest suites at Buckingham fucking Palace, absolutely all of them have such risibly bad internet connections that recording a podcast leaves me tearing my fucking hair out. I couldn't even get the online image editor to load properly, so the image is that rather pathetic, borderline clipart stinker you see in the top right hand corner. Dreadful. My art teachers would be justifiably disappointed. [...]
Prepare to get sweaty, prepare to dance, and prepare to get shoved by me in a rock and roll punk ass mosh pit of one. Ezra Furman and the Harpoons are coming to SF.

MP3: Ezra Furman & the Harpoons - Hard Time in a Terrible Land Last time Ezra Furman and his Harpoons came to town, they were kind enough to stop by Electraplay to film a live session for donewaitingTV . He played a few new, unreleased songs, like the one above - "Bloodsucking Whore." (And he spoke with Mr. Flexner about the meaning of the tune). Welp, now those songs are released on the band's new album, Mysterious Power . It's their best yet. Ezra Furman & the Harpoons return to [...]

Ezra Furman & the Harpoons are a four-piece rock band who met at Tufts University (w00t) and continued their musical interests out of college. They are now releasing their third studio album titled Mysterious Power . There is definitely a funk-rock aspect to Ezra Furman, but I enjoy their slower folky stuff much more. Be sure to check the album out if you enjoy this one.

There's a lot to love about Ezra Furman. He makes some of the most frantic rock music this side of the Clap Your Hands/Talking Heads line. But that's not the only reason to love him. On his last release, he offered some of his fans the the most exclusive thing a musician can offer a fan...a bonus song. But not just any bonus son. A personal song...written just for them. Each person who
April 2011 got off to a "fine" start with the loss of LCD Soundsystem. One of the chief architects of millennial indie rock said goodbye this weekend with a string of larger-than-life shows in New York City. Perhaps T.S. Eliot was right. Maybe April really is the cruelest month. Then again, this is the time of year when the music world starts to gain serious momentum. Nearly every artist still in existence decides to release new material and tour the world, major festivals finally reveal their line-ups, and just about anything's possible. It is spring after [...]
Ezra Furman & the Harpoons have been under-appreciated for almost five years now. Their 2007 debut, Banging Down the Doors , rambles about in concise, lunatic/poetic narratives, Furman's voice falling somewhere between Bob Dylan's Americana drawl and Violent Femmes frontman Gordon Gano's manic, nasal bark. Their 2008 follow-up, Inside the Human Body , followed through on that promise, some tracks (like harmonica-laden "Take Off Your Sunglasses" or the opening yelp of "In a trance in France I learned to dance" on "Big Deal") bursting with anxious energy, others (like "The Worm in the Apple") floating by on [...]

Back in December 2009 I saw Ezra Furman and The Harpoons at Johnny Brenda's, the Holy Grail of rock clubs. And the one thing I remember about that night was a new song they played that I assumed was called "Mysterious Power". Every now and then I'd think about that song and wonder if it was really as good as I remembered or if the intoxication of venue and Kenzinger's had created a romantic ideal of a song that could never live up to the hype. Well, guess what? The new album by Ezra Furman and The [...]
