Faces on Film (the namesake of this blog) is one of those bands that bewilders me, because they (or rather Mike Fiore) is so so good that I wish he'd make records for every season of my life and spend his days only making music. Instead, he offers occasional soundclouds (mostly covers) which will have to do for now. Listen to his cover of Tom Waits' Tell Me- below, and explore more of his music over here . Tell me (Tom Waits Cover) by [...]

Nadler released three tracks from her upcoming collection of covers on Twitter this week.

Frank Yang If someone were to start one of those, "Who the eff are The Shins ?" Tumblrs, there'd be no shortage of content to start with. They were once called Flake Music. They were the band who got a song with lyrics about having "dirt in your fries" to soundtrack a McDonalds commercial. They were the band that helped establish Sub Pop as the sensitive pop label for the new century rather than the sweaty grunge label for the last one. They were the band whose keyboardist was a hero to indie boys for [...]
Watch this exclusive FWBA premiere for Faces on Film ' s new video for Manitoba off the re-release of their album Some Weather via Nice Music Group. The record came out in July featuring Manitoba as an unreleased track. Manitoba moves slowly, with simple arrangements and an easy groove, carried by Fiore's hazed out vocals. It's got a nostalgic quality, captured best by the dreamlike video, moving steadily in slow motion. Check out the acoustic version of the track below performed at WEXT's studio in Albany while on tour. [...]

Faces on Film - Manitoba (Acoustic) by mikefiore333 Faces on Film (which is the musical alias of multi-instrumentalist Mike Fiore) opened the show for Marissa Nadler at Littlefield. I wasn't that familiar with Faces on Film's music prior to listening to Mike's acoustic set but his rich, emotive voice reminded me of Mark Kozelek (Red House Painters) or Ours' Jimmy Gnecco. One of the standout tracks from his set was "Manitoba" and a full-band version of this tracks has been added to the iTunes reissue of Faces on [...]

Faces on Film, the alter ego Boston-based songwriter Mike Fiore, recently reissued his second album, Some Weather , on the Nice Music Group label. Originally self-released, the record now gets the wider exposure it deserves, and with good reason. Faces on Film's sound has a welcome familiarity about it, landing Some Weather squarely in the "more of a good thing" category. Fiore's vocals sound very similar to a hybrid of My Morning Jacket and Fleet Foxes. Musically, Faces on Film treads a bit more of the experimental folk path, in a Devendra Banhart way rather than say [...]

I feel like my blogging these days have been pretty strategic, in that there is little time for exploring. Man, I remember the days when I would just go through different bandcamp pages and let hypem do it's thing. So I was excited to actually stumble upon Ink Jar- a single released with a b-side called Unquestioning, featuring Marissa Nadler by Cloud Seeding . Cloud Seeding is a project by Kevin Serra to profile artists that he admires. Marissa Nadler is currently on tour with FWBA favorite, Faces on Film. Head here [...]

Toronto - With performers of a more intimate nature, making a strong connection with the audience often makes the difference between a good show and a great show. A good example of this is Sharon Van Etten. Not only is she an incredible performer with great songs, but her onstage demeanor is such that she ends up totally charming those in attendance. This is not quite the case with Marissa Nadler . Now don't get me wrong, Nadler did put in a solid, enjoyable performance. She has an excellent voice and displayed that voice as she played songs from throughout her [...]

The singer/songwriter will play the Casbah on June 12. Follow Owl and Bear on Facebook and Twitter for contests, MP3s, and links that don't make it onto the blog.
I found out about this Boston band when Marissa Nadler announced they would be touring with her this coming July. Faces on Film is the project of songwriter Mike Fiore, who also offers his vocals for the group. I really enjoy the mixture of rock and country tones that stand behind each song. The alt-country [...]

Here's some great video from a recent intimate attic session at the Habitat House in San Francisco, where 60 people crammed up the staircase for a beautiful performance by Boston native Mike Fiore (aka Faces On Film ). Nada, of Friends With Both Arms , helped make this performance happen; a nice way of collaborating with one of her favorite artists who's song "Friends With Both Arms" inspired the name of her blog. The track "Harlem Roses" comes from his most recent record Some Weather , take a listen at his bandcamp . [...]

So, this is the first of what will be a quarterly thing on Visible Voice...the seasonal mixtape. I plan to use these mixtapes as an opportunity to share some of my favorite new music. Great tunes by local or not-so-local bands that you should know and, in many cases, tracks that have not been officially or widely released yet. For this inaugural winter mix a cold, snowy Boston is my (our) backdrop and, fittingly for this time of year, many of the songs here evoke themes of reflection. During the cold winter months I find that [...]
While we were gone, stuff piled up. A lot of stuff. And with no relaunch date in sight, it was very hard to be motivated enough to check out the new music coming my way. But there are some bands I love hearing from, so when I got an e-mail from Mike of Boston's Faces on Film, I was eager to listen. Faces on Film - Harlem Roses. You can find this track on Faces on Film's new record Some Weather which, true to its title, is full of Massachusetts climates. The album changes from warm to chilly at...

So I took a four day weekend. The reason for no post on friday, and one so late in the day today (monday) is I've been up to my eyeballs in an e-mail migration. Good news is, I've figured it all out (my e-mail is no longer bouncing) and I can get back on track with my posting. One thing I'd like to mention today is to head to Friends With Both Arms for a Mixtape curated by Mike Fiore from Faces On Film . Together, two very reliable sources for good music. [...]

Right around the one year mark for the blog, I reached out to Faces on Film frontman Mike Fiore to put together a little mix. For those of you who don't already know, Friends With Both Arms is the namesake of a Faces on Film track. I remember catching their set sometime last year and after buying their record, was simply floored by the exquisite collection of songs I discovered. They are still one of my favorites out there, and I look forward to more from them. I've included some Faces on Film tracks below the [...]

A surprising number of people journeyed out in the twelve-degree weather to attend CJ's birthday at Middle East Downstairs . I never figured out who CJ was, but he has an impressive list of friends including Hallelujah The Hills , Faces On Film , Tulsa , ( melophobe favorite ) Amelia Emmet of Mister Sister, and Jesse Gallagher (whose band included members of Drug Rug). We were there primarily to check out Tulsa and Faces on Film , so without further ado, I present melophobe's [...]
