Totally forgot to share a favorite of mine from 2010, so I'll share it now as we're not too far into 2011 yet. Faded Paper Figures' "Invent It All Again" has this child-like wonder and imagination that make you do more than reminisce about those times. A heavy hit of the dreamy electronica of The Postal Service coupled with the wonder and cute lyrics of Freelance Whales, and you will have some idea how magical this song is. It's bouncy, yet never too uptempo to make you lose the sense of wonder. Enjoy it again and again. [...]

So smitten by these bands were we in 2010 that we glorify them with the deepest of poetry. Grab a tissue or a rose and find a loved one, these are worth repeating. We've been receiving a number of Christmas submissions lately, and Mnemonic happened to grab my attention with "Sea of Snowflakes." Based out of Portland, Oregon, the duo of Peter Suk and Megan Ouchida create a melodic, electro-pop sound reminiscent of The Postal Service and/or a less developed Faded Paper Figures . The band has been creating music [...]

It takes a lot for a ninja to admit his own mistakes, but sometimes - you have to. One of our amazing contributors introduced us to a group that's put out a couple stellar indietronica albums, and we have to admit it, we're about 6 months off the mark in giving this band the props they deserve. Faded Paper Figures was formed in 2007 at a party in Irvine California (and you thought the only good things to come out of house parties were free booze and random hook-ups). The members - John Williams, Kael [...]
Just what do you think you're doing, Dave? Dave, I really think I'm entitled to an answer to that question. I know everything hasn't been quite right with me, but I can assure you now very confidently that it's going to be alright agin. I feel much better now, I really do. Look, Dave ... At stage right in San Francisco's Elbo Room is a screen playing loops of found footage and bits of abstract animation. They range from what looks like meditations on mitotic cell divisions all the way to Cold War-era air raid videos and images of exploding atomic weaponry. These are the visual choices of the electronic pop band, Faded Paper Figures, standing in front of them. So, the stakes were
We, the writers here at MTIB, are looking to switch things up just a bit in order to provide you, the viewer, with even more music than before. We know we have been inconsistent this summer, but we promise, there is a new sheriff in town... okay not actually, it's still all of the same people, but we will be making some changes. First off, posts will be up by 8 a.m. Central time every day.

Faded Paper Figures are a L.A./New Haven based electro-pop trio consisting of vocalist/guitarist R. John Williams, synth/bass/drummer Kael Alden, and synth/vocalist Heather Alden. Their pulsing, synth-stuttering single "Invent It All Again" from their sophomore album features beautifully catchy boy/girl harmonies and ultimately sounds like the result of a collaboration between Pinback, Stars and Architecture in Helsinki gone incredibly right. Top 3 reasons to go out tonight (after watching "Paul McCartney: In Performance at the White House" on KCET at 8): ☛ Laura Marling , the U.K. folk singer who's nominated for a Mercury Music Prize for her sterling sophomore album "I Speak Because I Can," plays the El Rey Theatre. That's her video for "Rambling Man," above. ☛ It'll be formidable back catalog vs. good new album at the Gibson Amphipheatre, where Squeeze play behind their new release "Spot the Difference." Old-school fans seem to always want the hits, y'know? [...]
It's a great couple of days in indie-electro land: tonight, Faded Paper Figures bring their post-Postal Service pop to Spaceland, and tomorrow, the Echoplex gets its best bill since the mind-blowing Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti /Magic Kids/Puro Instinct triple: Nite Jewel, Memoryhouse, Baths and a Kisses DJ set. More dates on our ongoing Los Angeles calendar . Faded Paper Figures - "Invent It All Again": mp3 Memoryhouse - "Sleep Patterns": mp3
Faded Paper Figures are a trio from LA who make some of the quaintest ElectroPop you'll ever hear. Like a slightly more Indie Freezepop, cheap drum machines and toytown synths are the order of the day here. Faded Paper Figures have an immediate charm about them that is helped, in no small part, by both male and female vocals which, rather than duel, compliment and intertwine around each other. Occasionally you can hear bit of The Postal Service creeping into things, maybe some Passion Pit too, but for the most part Faded Paper Figures have a pretty [...]
Faded Paper Figures released their album New Medium back in late May and are now headed out on a tour up the west coast in support of the release. If you need a little refresher on what Faded Paper Figures sound like, check the streams below and then see if they're coming to your west coast hood. Faded Paper Figures have been a really pleasant surprise for me these past couple of days. I blindly stumbled upon their myspace with no prior knowledge of who they were. I left the page greatly impressed, eager to get my hands on more. I discovered their new album (their 2nd), New Medium , and have been obsessing over it. Their songs are warm layered electronic delights that you can't help but obsess over. Their sound is full, completed by incredible male/female vocals that bring everything full circle. Their sound hits you instantly, hooking you in. You [...]

In their much-anticipated second album, New Medium, Faded Paper Figures return with a richer, fuller sound, even as they maintain all of Dynamo's indie-tronica charm. Fans of the band will be happy to hear all of the familiar blips, harmonies, and intellectual pop-references, but with even more life and energy this time around. Striking melodies, lyrical images, and classic pop forms-New Medium's lush electronica feels both intimately familiar and astonishingly new. Are you ready for some synthy gooey goodness? That's right, Faded Paper Figures are back! The last time we heard from the trio they were taking a bit of a break to pursue some mundane hobbies (you know, teaching at Yale and stuff like that). And just when I thought they had left us with a [...]
