Review, Photos, and video by Mark Ambrose What's better than spending time with family, friends, and loved ones over the holidays and drinking eggnog next to a warm fire? Rockin' out the eve of Christmas Eve at a great music venue in Dallas, that's what! Production company, Escaping The Ordinary , led by Ty Griffin , brought Fair To Midland and Dead Letter Circus to Granada Theater fans this weekend [...]
Over the weekend, I learned some pretty sad news: Jon Dicken is leaving Fair to Midland. The band announced the departure last Monday during their gig with Filter in Denton, Texas, but I didn't get to go, and, basically, had no idea until Facebook told me, thanks to that new sidebar. Subsequently, the band has ...

Webster defines an Aficionado as a person who likes, knows about, and appreciates a usually fervently pursued interest or activity; a devotee. This month ESBMusic suggests all you music aficionados become a fan of November's Artist of the Month Aficionado . Aficionado is a talented 7 piece band, hailing from Albany, NY with roots in punk music but have developed a unique style that they are happy to call their own. The band mixes organ, flute, and occasional horn arrangements into it's unorthodox blend of post-punk. Upon their inception in 2004, Aficionado began touring [...]

A bunch of big records came out last Tuesday: Suicide Silence, Fair to Midland, Sepultura and Decapitated. After the jump we'll take a look at how those and a few recent releases sold over the past week. But first, a follow-up on a question I asked in last week's column: how do the numbers for [...]

When the majority of my friends hear the word "metal," pertaining to the musical genre, they tend to think it all sounds like the purest of white noise, with screeching vocals, incredibly heavy bass and distorted guitars. They stay far, far, far away from the genre. Don't even think of bringing progressive metal to the table – but this is where Fair to Midland's latest album, "Arrows & Anchors" comes in, and gives listeners something from a plethora of genres. Now, this doesn't mean it's "light" metal by any means, as "Whiskey & Ritalin" gives you more than [...]

Mid-July struck and while this week's list was long, it was originally crowded with country, rap and death metal artists. Fortunately, Washed Out, Starlight Girls and a few popular rock groups will help even out the releases. Washed Out , the Ernest Greene (pictured above) project, draws an ambient theme into his new album off of SubPop Records, Within and Without . Greene reached out to Ben Allen (Animal Collective's Merriweather Post-Pavillion , Gnarls Barkley's St. Elsewhere ) to help co-produce and the final product plays with a top-of-the-line, expansive sound much like [...]
