Reworking pieces from Yasiin Bey 's, aka Mos Def 's back catalog always presented some inherit risk. Always a preface for cultural prevalence and poignancy, Bey's 'Umi Says' has always stood as one of his crown jewels. The cognizant positivity and sweeping jazz rhythms stand clear as he wholeheartedly murmurs "My Umi says shine a light on the world, shine a light for the world to see." Treacherous territory here, but FaltyDL has gone in with a remix of Mos Def's "Umi Says". It would appear he's taken the difficult task head on and succeeded, remixing a song that we here at Potholes, along with many of our readers, hold in such a high light. Striking what seems to be the perfect balance between the original and a more danceable groove, FaltyDL did a damn good job with this one.
