![FANG ISLAND ROCKED OUT GLASSLANDS [PHOTOS]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3774749_lg.jpg)
Everything about Wednesday night at Glasslands was loud. From the pounding, crashing percussion to the multitude of crunchy and smooth guitar tones, each band brought a huge amount of passion to the stage and put on an incredible show. Opening band, Fort Lean , began the evening with catchy guitar riffs and some of the most desperate, impressive vocals I've heard in quite some time. Screaming and screeching over the already loud music, their frontman (sporting bleached-blond, curly locks) showed a really impressive, emotive range. The following band, People Get Ready , brought the same [...]
![FANG ISLAND, JAMES BLAKE, TWIN SHADOW [SUGGESTED NYC CONCERTS]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3766281_lg.jpg)
Another week here in New York City means another week of live music that will blow your mind. Though James Blake , Yacht ,and Twin Shadow are in town, it's Brooklyn-by-way-of Rhode Island band Fang Island that snagged our #1 concert of the week spot. Why you ask? These dudes are outrageous performers who know how to have a good time. They're also playing one of my favorite venues, Glasslands Gallery . It's a small place filled with strange taxidermy, mythological creatures and a backdrop of puffy clouds. Do yourself a [...]
The poetic guitar riffs of Fang Island resonated through the air and walls of Cat's Cradle as we ( Da Bear , Hot Tamale , MayDay, and Sarahnade ) rolled up to the club. The energy of Fang Island was contagious, as the crowd danced and continuously banged their heads. Fang Island consists of three electric guitar players, a drummer, and bassist. Their skill on guitar was evident as they passed the lead lines from player to player, each player equally capable of shredding on guitar at incredible rates. The crowd responded most vehemently when the [...]

Perpetually positive guitar heroes Fang Island are currently in the studio recording the followup to last year's wildly popular self-titled debut. Small hints of the recording process have been popping up on the band's Twitter account, and we hope to have more samples of the work in progress in the near future. The band will take a short break from recording to hit the road in September for a series of East Coast shows, some of which will be with The Joy Formidable. Download "Patterns On The [...]

The Drunken Unicorn is closing September on a hot streak. Backed by our own Vegan Coke. Only $8 in advance. Fang Island - Life Coach

Any regular reader of mine might have been able to read between the lines lately and discern I am in a rare frame of mind (for me at least) that might commonly be described as "a funk" (ad not the good get-down kind). So I would like to thank the gentlemen in the photo above, Fang Island , for penning the song below. I had forgotten about it until a random PR email hit my inbox informing me said gentlemen above would be embarking on an East Coast tour shortly. My first thought was "Damn you, why [...]
The NYC duo Chappo received some recognition last year with "Come Home", a summertime psych-rock jam with a shimmering quality reminiscent of alt-rock groups like Teenage Fanclub and The New Radicals. The track was an excellent expansion of several genres; jangly guitars provide the power-pop background, while hints of Neil Young-inspired southern-rock lead just prior [...]

So, here we are - we've been posting cryptic tweets, random images and dropping not-so-subtle hints for the past few days. You might have wondered, what's all this about? Chances are you didn't, but the important part is the reason why we've been doing it - well, it's because today is the first 'birthday' of Quiff Pro 'Fro! Yes, 365.25 days ago, the 'Fro sat down on Facebook chat, and proposed to his be-Quiffed pal that perhaps a music blog might be a fun waste of time venture; a pun was formed, a website was hastily [...]

Fang Island three guitars and sometimes a microphone Welcome to the laziest type of music post you'll ever get out of the RS blog. Here's three great songs by three equally progressive prog rock guitar bands. Punk IS Dead! MP3 by Gondliers from their EP2 get it here . It's amazing what you can do with some speed, chops and a octave pedal these days. There should be more music in the works from these Somerville Massholes as they just added a singer. Making them a trio. So [...]

Photo of Saydi by me... Hello again & a happy friday to ya! For today's mixtape, we are going to do something a wee-bit different. Instead of bring you something new, I wanted to bring back something from last year. You see, in a few short tiny little days, my oldest bird is turning 18, a genuine, pasteurized, and certified adult. Nuts. I know it's a cliche to "awww, they grow up so fast!", but let me tell ya, my friends, they do. Seems like just yesterday she was that tiny little [...]
A bit late, but as I just remembered I have a LJ and have long loved this community, I thought I would share my top 40 favorite songs of 2010, accompanied by vintage photographs that capture the mood of the songs: I've put free and legal downloads where available. 40. Alcoholic Faith Mission - My Eyes to See Founded by Danish musicians transported to Brooklyn, Alcoholic Faith Mission brings a fresh [...]
Fang Island @ Bowery Ballroom, March 11 There's a strange bifurcation when it comes to Fang Island . The Brooklyn-by-way-of-RISD band either immediately strikes a chord (more like a symphony) with its newcomers, or it simply doesn't click. Most likely, the former category contains some prerequisites like being a punk/prog rock fan; appreciating the flawless execution of an arpeggio; having played Dungeons & Dragons; and presumably, being male. There's definitely a Revenge of the Nerds catharsis involved with loving Fang Island. They make people want to band together, let [...]
This review runs live and in color on Bowery Presents' House List blog. A critic far sharper than this one wrote that Fang Island's self-titled debut LP sounded like "everyone high-fiving everyone." Not coincidentally, bassist Mike Jacober arrived onstage for the band's encore just before midnight on Friday at The Bowery Ballroom and proceeded to slap hands with as many people as he could

In anticipation of South By Southwest's (SXSW) launch in Austin today, we're pleased to present a bunch of quality artists/groups we hope our readers and those visiting this event can get into. Also, if you plan on attending and don't see your group below, give them a shout by leaving a comment. First off, I'm a huge fan of solo Irish artists who are more than just one person. In particular, Rams' Pocket Radio and Peter McCauley oozes with talent as he plays drums, piano and everything in between. The other artist we never [...]

I think I'm starting to say this a lot, maybe it comes with the territory of having been blogging for a few years now, but I remember last year on the last night of SXSW, my friend and I somehow made it way, way out to East Austin to this Mexican bar that somehow ended up hosting indie rock shows. We went to see Fang Island, and in the midst of some pretty bad screamo bands, I saw one of the most joyfully celebratory and altogether ridiculous shows I've ever seen. Songs in Spanish played on the jukebox [...]
