We've always had one hell of a time at Fun Fest every year, and we always have some fun after the festival discussing our take on each day's events. This year, we're letting each one of our writers provide their own take on the weekend with a personal recap of the goings ons so as to not compromise or impose on any one writer's opinions. I'll be starting things off today with some random thoughts and favorite bands from the best festival in town. Follow the jump for more from me. [...]

Fun Fun Fun Fest takes over Auditorium Shores this weekend, and I'm pumped. Like every year, the festival is packed with a large variety of acts that must been seen. Refused, Santigold, Explosions In The Sky, Run DMC - these are just a few of the big names that will be delighting the masses. As I noted, though, the lineup is stacked, and that means there will also be quite a bit of good music going on during the afternoon. Below you'll find the 10 bands that I think you should head out early to see. Enjoy. [...]

Fang Island have announced fall tour dates with Anamanaguchi starting in October, followed by the band's performance at Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, TX on November 4th. Check out the dates and Fang Island's video for "Sisterly" off their recent album, Major, after the jump. FANG ISLAND Live: [...]

With it's playfulness yet constantly steady booming sounds "Kindegarten," the opening track of Fang Island's Major is a reminder that class was not always about science and math, but also about learning the paths of life. With the lyrics "all I know/I learned in/kindergarten" repeating in the background after a lengthy piano introduction, the track is a great introduction to a new Fang Island whose sound is still experimental, but more chiseled and mature. Major is Fang Island's second full length release and showcases the band's ability to stretch their sound to [...]
It being Friday, and just shy of half-way through the ninth month of the year, this morning I ( @andykahn ) decided on a whim to tweet out my Top 9 Albums of 2012 (so far). Along with the nine I chose, I also added a handful of, “Honorable Mentions,” that didn’t quite make the cut. With a quarter of the year left, 2012 has thus far proven to be another impressive year of album releases. #9 album of 2012 (so far) @ mapsnatlases "Beware [...]

Fang Island (@fangisland) headlined one of the best shows I've seen all year, a mixture of intense math rock, progressive guitar rock, and pop that never let up. With brilliant harmonies, guitar hero riffs, and the energy of a fusion reactor, Fang Island easily makes my list of must-see live acts. On a side note, this show marked the very first time that guitarist/vocalist Jason Bartell ever crowd surfed. Also on the lineup was Irish instrumental rock trio, Adebisi Shank (@adebisishank). Their performance was their [...]

Fang Island is playing Strange Matter tonight with Adebisi Shank and Sports Bar . I've been told that this is the must-see live show of the century. Maybe you should go.

The Brooklyn-based rock band Fang Island captured an infectious sound on its self-title LP in 2010, and its follow up album, Major , demonstrates the band's signature positive vibes, this time conveyed through lyrics rather than solely with its unorthodox instrumentation. Hyped on the same energy found in kindergarten classrooms, the trio is as doe-eyed as ever, and happily so with lyrics that shout "I hope I never understand." Reveling in the unknown, Fang Island offers its buoyant tone on Major , but don't let the power piano opener of "Kindergarten" fool you. The lead-in track sets a poppy [...]

Robert Pollard – Who's Running My Ranch [mp3] (from Jack Sells the Cow , out Sept 17 th on Fire Records ) Never to be outdone, GBV -frontman Robert Pollard continuously exudes and excretes indie rock that is simultaneously flippant and profound. [...]

THIS WEEK'S BEST BET: Lightning Bolt w/ God's Balls, El Fossil Friday, August 24 The Goat Farm - 1200 Foster Street in Atlanta 30318 Admission $12 / Purchase Tickets Leave it to me to split town on one of the best live music weekends of the entire year. Not only is Atlanta getting its yearly bludgeoning courtesy of Nophest (now in its sixth year) and its non-stop four-day barrage of local music events, but there's also some fantastic national acts stopping [...]
Brooklyn-based rockers Fang Island know how to have a good time. The band's past video endeavors have featured dancers donning Bill Clinton masks and an Elvis-ninja fighting a gorilla . Their new one for “Sisterly” might be the most bizarre yet. In the Behn Fannen -directed piece, Jason Bartell, Chris Georges and Marc St. Sauveur perform for their lives on public access television while a mysterious producer pelts them with stuffed animals. Luckily, the guys make it out alive. Can't say the same for their back-up singers, though. If you can't get enough [...]

“A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.” -Willy Wonka Azealia Banks – “Van Vogue” When you're a beautiful woman, it really only takes some running water and choice close-ups to make an entertaining video. Now somebody get Azealia a towel. Darlingside – “Terrible Things” This video from Northampton, MA natives Darlingside plays like a depressing, self-loathing version of the film Memento . Our protagonist is constantly reminded of all the bad things he's ever [...]
Fang Island have debuted a new video for their song, "Sisterly", off their recently released album, Major, that no doubt had a MAJOR impact on the lives of hipsters everywhere. "Sisterly" marks the first video from the new album and is shot in an old school style. The video's budget was $1.2 million [...]

Jo McCaughey Two, actually. Typically big albums come with big tours, but while Jack White's solo debut Blunderbuss has been inarguably one of the biggest releases of the year for the adjectiveless rock set, his touring itinerary - at least in North America - has been relatively scattershot, favouring short stretches anchored by festival dates. And while no one would call the dates announced yesterday any kind of cross-country marathon, it does include the first three eastern Canadian dates since the end of The White Stripes, [...]
