Last week, There Goes The Fear gave you the low-down on all upcoming summer festivals , one of which was Lovebox . The eclectic festival - which takes place over Saturday July 18th to Sunday July 19th in Victoria Park, London - has just confirmed this year's super headliners. 80's legends, Duran Duran , will be the main act taking to the stage on Saturday night, while Groove Armada (the band who actually founded Lovebox) will be claiming the top slot [...]
SATURDAY: DURAN DURAN | NERD | FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE | FRIENDLY FIRES | FAT FREDDYS DROP SUNDAY: GROOVE ARMADA | LADYHAWKE | SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO | HORSE MEAT DISCO | SECRETSUNDAZE DAY TICKET £42.50+booking fee WEEKEND £75.00+booking fee (CLICK) Allegedly, the music cognoscenti have dubbed 09 as the "year of pop", which is a good thing, as if we believe the newspapers then any chance to be transported away from the miserable climate should be rejoiced. Better still and by no mere coincidence we are ever so slightly [...]

From a roots / dub/ reggae / jazz /soul outfit I suppose eclectic could be a term associated with Fat Freddy's Drop, and if the diversity of crowd packing into the Roundhouse in Camden on Friday were anything to go by then we were certainly in for a musical genre spanning evening. Starting off with some mouthwatering mellow reggae/dub grooves - that included a rendition of excellent new track ' Pull the Catch ' - each song was interspersed with a plethora of quality instrumentals that left me feeling slightly euphoric. [...]

SINGLE REVIEW – KARTEL RECORDS – 1ST DECEMBER 2008 It would seem that slow burning rise of Kiwi dub-soul ensemble Fat Freddy's Drop is all but complete. Granted, it may have taken a few years for the sheer majesty of their debut album Based On A True Story to fully sink in with UK punters as the funked out, soulful beauty of one of the decades most impressive debuts was lost on a British audience rapidly starting to associate dub grooves with grimey Lewisham scallies. [...]
Do you like your roots/dub/reggae/jazz/soul with a "down under" tinge? Something a bit different from your Kooks / Automatic / View Radio 1 sanctioned pap? Well, rejoice, as New Zealanders Fat Freddy's Drop are going to release their second single "Pull The Catch" from their forthcoming album, "Big BW" Sunny, jazzy, laid back and all out gorgeous, "Pull The Catch" has you dreaming of summer all over again - those sunsets over the beach, those festival moments as the sun goes down or those late night dalliances in a tent somewhere far [...]

Loving the album art on this one. It's really funky don't you think? Fat Freddy's Drop have long been a favourite reggae / dub band of mine. They are responsible for the superb 'Midnight Marauders' which has to go down as one of the best records of it's ilk ever made. Now this one doesn;t come into the same category as that, simply becasue FFD have moved on and their organic sound has eveolved since that record was made. 'Pull The Catch' still features that distictive vocal and lad back vibe but it's [...]
Jazzanova's back in town, and the return of one of the great remix teams has inspired me to return to Remix Thursday. Jazzanova is a Berlin-based production collective who have been making tracks under their own moniker during the last decade, as well as creating many of the remixes that [in my mind] define the sound of the labels they produce for, namely Sonar Kollective and Compost Records . From Bebop to Drum & Bass, their styles really cover the entire [...]

kiwi reggae-soul // dub I can’t say that you Aurgasm readers often tell me what music I should be hearing (lord knows I get an earful from promoters), but one name that’s been thrown my way many times is Fat Freddy’s Drop. And if the popularity of the last multi-reader suggestion, Rodrigo Y Gabriela , is any indication, you’ll likely enjoy these guys as well. Not content with whipping up killer beats, they often lay down soulful R&B vocals to glide effortlessly into your ears. Last year, this seven-piece [...]

Welcome me back to the 99% humidity everyone! I could sure use some more vacation, but there's no more time for fucking around, Palms Out is opening a goddamn store!! I'm back with a slew of remixes from acts featured at this year's fantastic Roskilde Festival. Maybe not the absolute best of my 6 times at the festival, but more than worth the $180 for a ticket. However, it's pretty hard to beat 2003 when Bjork played right after Massive Attack which was right after Queens of the Stone Age on the last night of a festival that included just [...]
