The first day of Coachella has officially started, and we're almost through with it. I'm taking a little food break between acts right now. I am having a blast, such saw DJ Mehdi, Midnight Juggernauts, Battles, and Busy P. I'm looking forward to Cut Copy, Tegan and Sara, Santogold, Datarock, Spank Rock, and hopefully Fatboy Slim tonight. But this mix here is for those who weren't lucky enough to come up to Indigo with the rest of us. This is the best of Coachella 2008, day 1: covered and remixed. FRIDAY'S LINEUP [...]

Many of our friends in the blogosphere will be heading out Californee' way this weekend, while the rest of us are left behind to cry into our keyboards and nerd out to the newest episode of Battlestar Galactica. We know we're not alone, though. After all, they can only fit so many people onto those grounds. So in honor of all those who won't be heading West, here's a smattering of the artists that will be playing day 1 of Coachella. Listen to these at maximum volume through blown speakers while your friends yell into each ear [...]
Our second stop on the Aural tour of the world brings us to the hometown of Blood Red Shoes, Brighton. A lovely town on the south coast of England, Brighton has a great recent history in music. Socially and politically, the town is quite liberal; promoting art, individuality and performance at every turn. Not only [...]

At 4AM (oof) Thursday morning I will be on my way to my 5th consecutive Coachella Music Festival . You would think by now I would be used to the 100+ degree temps. I don't think you can ever get used to that. This year I opted for a condo rental (with a lazy river!!) instead of the normal camping, so hopefully that should help. Waking up at 6AM in a 90 degree tent doesn't make for a a very energized festival-goer. To celebrate Coachella, as well as the official start to the [...]
By no particular intentional design, this is my 150th post according to the WordPress dashboard thing. That would mean that I've written an average of 2.5 posts a week since initially putting this place together, and I really didn't think I was that productive. This post has been sitting in my draft folder for a while, festering while I try to ignore it but with a milestone approaching I must rid myself if the millstone around my neck. It started coincidentally enough because I was looking through some older posts, and Smith & Mighty stuck out somehow leading [...]

It's a beautiful spring day up here on Mt. Misery. Even though I still have a little ways to go before I reach full functionality again, it's time I put aside the emo-rbidity of the past couple of weeks and carpe the diem . Besides, I can think no better way to facilitate the healing process than with some fresh air and some infectious grooves. The windows have been opened and the playlist has been finalized, arbitrary standards of quality be damned. Catch you on the dance floor, cats and kittens -- this [...]

It's April 1st! Which means lots of people will be playing tons of lame, predictable pranks on wary friends for the duration of the day. In place of old-fashioned antics, I'd prefer a good mixtape any day. Here are some songs with a theme of foolishness and trickery that won't get you all irritated and jumpy. In the mix is a b-side from the consistently great Róisín Murphy, a Jamiroquai classic, a dance remix of The Cardigans and a handful of other tracks along the same lines, for a total of a lucky 13 ace tracks. Don't be [...]

~ HELP CELEBRATE!! ~ Christopher Walken turns 65 years-old today. It's CHRISTOPHER WALKEN DAY! There is only so much that one can do in popular culture without crossing paths with the iconic Christopher Walken! The former dancer, stage actor, drama stand-out and master of dialog delivery is now largely known for his outlandish comedy characterizations. Long may you live Walken! [...]

ELECTRONICA. First we have that Chemical Brothers song that everyone knows. Most people don't know the name of it, or that The Chemical Brothers rock, so therefore when I play it because I love The Chemical Brothers, I feel guilty. The Chemical Brothers- Galvanize (mediafire) Next we have a Moby song. What about Moby isn't guilty? He is a bald white guy who makes catchy electronica. Of course he is guilty. Moby- Porcelain [...]

New track by Holy Ghost produced by none other than Mr. LCD himself, James Murphy. I think everything James Murphy touches is, "gold, Jerry, GOLD!"(Old quote, I know.) Just give Hold On a listen, you like it. Holy Ghost! - Hold On Other funky shit - Haven't given Fatboy Slim a listen in a while, but this remix is Justice, so of course I like it. The other is a Curtis Vodka remix [...]

I interupt your PMA-reading pleasure for this Public Service Announcement: I (Luis) am experimenting a bit with the blog, i.e. the frequent change of layout, etc. I just want to work out what I want for PMA exactly. It's confusing. But hey-ey! People change their undies more than once, I hope. So... why not PMA? BACK TO THE POST... I abso-fucking-lutely love Donnie Darko . There is nothing truer than that. I have watched it dozens of times over the years and every time is as enthralling as the last. [...]

I'm sorry, but if you hate on this guy, you're just a wanker... Fatboy Slim Who he is: An old, old man who's probably on his last 20 or so brain cells. What he sounds like: You know, it seems like there's been a bit of a Fatboy Slim backlash, that people don't think he's as relevant as he used to be and that type of hogwash... but hey, Norman is no Moby. Norman doesn't [...]

MP3s for the GRIND. The Week That Was / The Week That Will Be Who doesn't love themed blog posts? By no means is this Work Mix playlist perfect - but here are songs for labor - guaranteed to spark some interesting thoughts. If you think I'm missing any really good ones, drop me an email and let me know. Here's to getting through another week of working for the man. Nothing tragic here - There are worse things... I suppose. [...]

Caribou "She's the one" (Hot Chip remix) Plus psychédélique, le [...]
Bouncing about the internets lately has been a fascinating YouTube video highlighting Pierre Henry's 1967 track "Psyché Rock" and its immediate influence on the theme song to the animated series Futurama . As for the similarities - glaringly obvious; but who is Pierre Henry? Oh, just "the first formally educated musician to devote his energies to the electronic medium." ( All Music ) (more...)

Justice played a few weeks ago for CMJ at Terminal 5 and it was . . . decent. These remixes, however, are spot on. I actually feel like I'm still out right now, except that I'm in my underpants, huddled in a dark room, scrawling crucifixes across my bare skin to ward off the winter spirits that are stalking the mean, ice cold streets of Brooklyn Heights. N.E.R.D. - She Wants To Move (Justice Remix) Klaxons - As Above, So Below (Justice As A Fool, So Believes Remix) [...]

(Deel 249 hiero ) Deel 250 woehoeoeoeoe! Fatboy Slim - Radioactivity label: Azuli jaar: 2007 kant a: Fatboy Slim - Radioactivity kant b: Bootsy Collins - Everything Is Everything [...]
