M4 (Part 1) By Faunts Album: M4 EP Label: Friendly Fire Recordings Genre: electronic moody environmental indie hum Tags: cinematic, electronic, environme ntal, indie, moody, shoegaze Download : MP3 Audio Canadian Steven Batke's effected guitar is just as processed and swirlingly hypnotic as his bro Tim's and comrade Joel's keys. This is background music that isn't comfortable staying in [...]
Some news from New York-based label Friendly Fire : The latest EP by Canadian shoegazers Faunts is now also available as a digital download on iTunes or eMusic. M4 is almost a complete album as it's about 40 minutes long, but it is more on the ambient side than their brilliant debut album High Expectations/Low Results . Nonetheless, the music of the [...]

There's something in the water! Seriously y'all, what is it about Canada and tremendously excellent indie rock music as of the last couple of years? As our friend Jessica would school you about, any listener of CBC Radio has a leg up on pretty much the entire world of independent (yet amazingly crossover-worthy) rock music. Faunts , the five-piece group at the center of this profile are something of an anomaly when taken in regard to some of the other Great White North artists we've come to know and love over [...]

[See post to listen to audio] Faunts / Instantly loved Support the artist Technorati Tags: Faunts , [...]

for me, one of the most enjoyable aspects of music - and more specifically, music consumption - has always been the moment of discovery of something previously completely unknown - the quintessential "a-ha!" moment. when you couple this with the maxim that birds of a highly-creative feather do indeed seem to flock together, understanding the dj-culture concept of trainspotting - following the dots - becomes easy to understand. as great is the shock that this revelation produces, it is magnified even further upon discovery of yet other acts, labels, and artists connected through the initial find. Which is worse: hearing the original version of " In A Big Country " performed by Big Country , or the yuppie FM-lite version on that icky-twee Kohl's commercial? Would you rather endure the faux-50's stylings in Grease or this sickening embroidery pattern ? When I'm in the mood to hear moody opera pop, I pick Sigur Ros , except when they dawdle between albums, in which case I head towards the upstart quasi- Sigur [...]
