Move it a long my dear protestors this is a real insurgency. Every month we smash or trash some songs and then let you grab the spoils. There would be busted and bruised ego's if you heard us in the board room throwing darts at some of the music that does not make the cut. For the record all bribes are accepted as there is no real formal process other than sending us a downloadable link for your latest and greatest track. We think these are number one hits in their own rights but do feel free to follow the [...]

While Femme Fatale, which appears on 1967's The Velvet Underground & Nico , is written about Edie Sedgwick - feel free to think about your favorite Femme Fatale as you listen to this week's covers. Maybe it's even someone in your life, has anyone written you down as #37 in her book? The Contestants: Beck : Last Summer, Beck announced his Record Club project where he would bring in guest musicians and record entire album covers in one day. The first [...]

Local label Collective Records has been rather quiet in the recent past, but on Wednesday sent out a MySpace bulletin announcing its return from the dead. This includes posting some new pictures and a new/old song from sludgy post-rockers In Medias Res . The eclectic label also promises some exciting things in 2009 (which I'll write more on once I find out what they are!). Collective Records alums and current artists include indie dreamers Foundry Field Recordings, post-punk throttlers Bald Eagle, post-rock experimentalists the Conformists and Warhammer 48K, and electro-punks Femme Fatality, along [...]

Friday you'll be able to see Chicago's own La Dolce Vita perform live at the Deb . You might remember these guys from their thick-as-hell Yelle remix? If not then check it here . Also, if you've got nothing going on tonight... head up to Smart Bar where James Murphy and Pat Mahoney of LCD Soundsystem will be performing DJ sets for all you Thursday-nighters. I could have grabbed ANY track of their extensive discography, but instead I'll be lazy and post up the first track that drew me [...]
While I have been gallivanting around for the last month, hott new albums just keep on dropping. I'm abridging an already succinct segment to keep up. Here's three episodes of What The Hell shrink wrapped together. Since I am a big fan of the run-on sentence, I give you micro-reviews of my summer soundtrack so far: First up, some artists whose sounds characterize the best and brightest of this decade: Animal Collective (Baltimore, MD) One of the greatest bands of this generation offer up [...]

In this week's Homespun , Christian Schaeffer reviews Femme Fatality 's new CD, One's Not Enough , which is coming out on Stickfigure Recordings . He had this to say: Like the Strokes' Is This It? , the album title One's Not Enough seems to be Femme Fatality's way of preemptively baiting a backlash — but really, boys, one album was enough. 2004's Never Had a Daddy was a fun dose of synths, drum machines and dumb-dumb club-kid lyrics that came at the tail end [...]
