iTUNES // PHYSICAL Words by Tom Johnson Whether or not artists strive for it is besides the point, but there will occasionally come a moment in a career when it suddenly feels like their arrival has been marked – a calling card, if you will. There’s no way of objectifying quite how or why this happens – and there’s certainly no set pattern – all the more often it is just as much down to circumstance as it [...]

MP3: Dirty Fences - Heaven Is Tonight I'm always on the hunt for quality rock 'n roll, yet it's so rare to find in this depressing era of drivel. Sure, I enjoy a good electric pop song as much as the rest of them, but I'd trade it all for something that's worth giving a shit about. Dirty Fences ' Too High to Kross is definitely a step in the right direction: it never stops to linger, staying brisk and on topic all throughout, making sure you're having [...]

The mighty Fence Records will release Now That You're A Dancer , the second LP from Edinburgh self-confessed indie-poppers Kid Canaveral, on March 4th. To celebrate the records pre-order the band have made a track from the album available for our aural pleasure - and what a pleasure it is. The Wrench is a supremely infectious blast of the bands self-styled indie-pop that, in just over two-and-a-half minutes, manages to set hearts racing and limbs shaking. What more could you ask for, eh? [...]

This track is over 3 years old, yet it never gets boring. Here Delphic remixes the French Indie band Phoenix.

DeltaFoxx are two creative producers / DJs called Popingis and Quizzik . Unusual names for such a distinct duo, their jewel of the crown in ‘Fences’ by Phoenix is mixed by DeltaFoxx and Tomás Seferin. Mastered by Michael Fossenkemper at the Turtle Tone Studio in NYC, DeltaFoxx handle the mighty Phoenix with lots of subtle bite and vintage electronic magic. PHOENIX - Fences (DeltaFoxx Remix) BONUS! DeltaFoxx has done up a remix of one of the best songs Phoenix ever has done! Fences! This is an Indie Dance type vibe right here and its quite the treat! Phoenix - Fences (DeltaFoxx Remix) by DeltaFoxx

It says a lot for the creative ways of today that you don't even bat an eyelid when an artist releases his new EP on either a sweatshirt or a tee... and that was exactly the case with the recently released 'Of Course You Exist ' EP from the wonderful The Pictish Trail. The Fence Records label manager and Silver Columns singer released the record as a precursor to his upcoming LP, Secret Soundz Vol.2 , which is set for release [...]

The Bimmer is back! Yep, that's my beater baby, sitting pretty and lonely at around sunset on Friday night in the Skagit Valley College parking lot, where KSVR is located. A few vacuum leaks fixed and she's running much better. I'm now awaiting a new vacuum advance unit, on its way from Germany. Once in, it should be tip top. I decided to do something a little different on tonight's show. Rather than playing back-to-back songs by an artist, I instead selected an artist to highlight a few [...]
The day is brighter than the last few and the sun is just biding its time behind a cloud. It's expected a bit later. It's a long sleeve day which I found out when I investigated Gracie's intruder bark. She was standing on the rail by the deck stairs, and the hair on her back was raised from her neck to her tail, never a good sign. I looked but saw nothing. It must have been the rabbit which just stands and stares at the dog. While Gracie was standing on the rail, I noticed the border along the side [...]

Last year James Mathe aka Barbarossa decamped to the Analogue Catalogue studio in the hills outside Manchester to record the follow-up to 20072s " Chemical Campfires ". Exclusively using analogue kit (Casio keyboards, vintage synths and old drum machines) and with Adem of " Homesongs " fame at the production helm we're now seeing the first fruits of that labour. "Butterfly Plague " arrives on June 12th as part of Fence Records Chart Ruse series ( preorder ). The video marks the directorial debut of actor, film-maker and James' partner, Montserrat Lombard. To [...]

This was supposed to be a productive week, those hours after work. But I ended up doing what any solid music nerd would: procrastinate by going through my records and singles, rediscovering old favorites and discovering new treasures hidden within my collection. We listened to The Smiths on repeat for a few days. I dug out an old single by The Rondelles. I got Andi into Crystal Stilts. And despite all this recounting of the past, of all the listening to albums already in my collection, I [...]

Fences have announced they will record a new full-length in February with a tentative release set for the Summer.
Filed under: News , Exclusive , New Music Universal Rock musicians are supposed to be fascinating, right? Well the boys of UK quartet Bombay Bicycle Club don't think so. "I think we're quite boring to write about," bassist Ed Nash tells Spinner. "We're all pretty normal people." The band -- pegged as the youngsters on the scene when they first came out two years ago with their debut, 'I [...]

White Fence was the act I wanted to see while at CMJ this past week, it came true on the last night and was an unforgettable experience. Here is "The Pool" being performed at a show they played earlier in the week at Cakeshop . [ via ]

There's something comforting about being across the country and seeing familiar faces on a stage you've only seen in show review photos across the blogosphere. At the 2011 CMJ Music & Film Festival , there was a considerate amount of Bay Area bands playing on the unofficial circuit - including (but not limited to) Weekend, White Fence and Sea of Bees - and those were the handful that we managed to catch out in New York this year. White Fence [...]

[photos by Amanda Hatfield ] White Fence played one of the most impressive shows we've seen in all of 2011 - at Bowery in August . So, it was only natural that we would invite them to play our annual CMJ show at Cake Shop , and we were thrilled that they could join the bill. After a long drive from Connecticut where they have played the previous night ( see here ), the band arrived for their 3:15 pm set time a little weary but ready to go. [...]

The track is on their album Oh, Mellow Melody Bandcamp site. The band does not have any shows booked in the near future, but is working on another album due out early next year.
