The latest scuzzy, lo-fi garage rock band to hit the scene are the Denton, TX-based Fergus & Geronimo.

Denton's Fergus & Geronimo will release their Tell It in My Ear 7" (with sweet artwork, pictured above) later this month in the UK on Transparent Records . We're big fans of the a-side of course, and this morning, the label sent over the equally great b-side: mp3: fergus & geronimo :: glistening smiles The Tell It in My Ear 7" is limited to 300 copies worldwide, so [...]

When we first heard Fergus & Geronimo we instantly realised we had to work with them and as such we're hugely pleased and proud that the song which started the love affair, 'Tell It (In My Ear)', is the next limited vinyl release on Transparent. TP003 is available to pre-order now exclusively from Pure Groove in the UK and those of you stateside should keep your eyes peeled as some of the 300 singles will be heading to stores across the pond too. No need to wait too long though: [...]

Another Saturday, another show at Market Hotel. I came out primarily to see The Magic Kids , whose song "Hey Boy" has been circulating around the internets, providing toe-tapping confusion about who these Memphis, Tennessee kids are. I learned at the show that they're also pretty much the same band as t he Barbaras , whose myspace is chock full of good songs. I wasn't as impressed I was hoping I'd be with this band, but I did like them. The songs that had a rollicking back-beat, 1950s rock-n-roll style, chugging along feel were the best. High energy, fun, [...]

There's a ton of really exciting new songs going around right now that seem tailor-made for summertime listening. My June Mixtape started to touch on a few of them (Smith Westerns, Real Estate, Zach Vinson), but July has kept them coming at a steady clip (Atlas Sound, Times New Viking, Hallelujah the Hills, Free Energy - just scroll down). Add the Motown-influenced garage-pop Denton, TX band Fergus & Geronimo to the list. I've recently come across their songs over at a few trusted blogs and so far I love what I'm hearing. [...]

MP3: Fergus & Geronimo - "Harder Than It's Ever Been" This is the A-side of the Denton duo 's new 7-inch for Woodsist , and its minute-forty-seven of ramshackle pop has been perfectly sating my hungry ears all morning. It's "sort of" out now (i.e., I don't think Woodsist has updated their site to list it, but you can get it from Fusetron ).

Just last week I was in attendance for the Teenage Cool Kids record release show for their latest lp, Foreign Lands , at Rubber Gloves in Denton (actually the real album cover is much cooler, I just couldn't find one that was big enough). Released by Protagonist Music on super sturdy 180 gram vinyl, TCK are about to take over the world on a rediculous 3 month tour. First, romping through the upper 48 before they head over seas (apparantly these guys are huge in the UK). While in the states, Andrew Savage [...]

Half way into the year and we've already amassed an incredible itunes library for 2009 alone. While creating a list of "top songs" is never easy (someone is always the fat kid on the playground basketball court), there was actually a method to the madness in this list. Whether it was looking at play counts or songs that I know I've listened to at least 100+ times in my car, the rankings in this list are "accurate". Things did get a bit hairy in the top 10, but they're all favorites really. Don't forget to send in your top tunes [...]

If Berry Gordy Jr. got sick of Detroit and moved to Denton he would be sitting in the sunny garden of the house that Tamla built, listening to the kids in the DIY punk band next door muffled through the wall of the basement. He'd go round with some Tammy and Marv vinyls for them and the next day they would have transformed into Fergus & Geronimo . We instantly fell in love with their timeless melodies and asked if we could put out their single. They said yes and we're so [...]

Thanks to We Shot J.R. for staying up on the thriving Denton scene, and for introducing us to Fergus & Geronimo , the rad new group from Jason Kelly ( Wax Museums ) and Andrew Savage ( Teenage Cool Kids , who've gained some national attention recently thanks to an absurd cease & desist from the other Cool Kids ). Savage's original idea for the project was " Four Tops by way of Mothers of Invention ," and based on the three great Motown-inspired [...]
