Well, here we go. I've never been so unsure about a year end list in the three years I've been doing this blog. Nothing blew me away this year to make my decision for the number one album easy. My top five albums could all be number one, so as you read this list, think of it more as the higher on the list the albums are, the better. Not necessarily that album 15 on the list was 15th best in my mind. 50. Proud Simon - Shoestring Universe [...]

Ferraby Lionheart sounds like Alex Greenwald, Phantom Planet's lead singer, singing the Beatles. It took me a while to pinpoint who he sounded like, but now that I've figured it out, there's no doubt who he sounds like. His music is far more folk oriented than anything Phantom Planet has done, and it's easy to enjoy whether you're a Phantom Planet fan or not. He has a self-titled EP out now with six songs I can't get enough of. The stand-outs are "Tickets to Crickets" and "The Fighter". Both capturing that mellow Beatles feel perfectly. [...]

The 2006 CMJ Music Marathon begins tonight in what we like to call the annual ass kicking of New York with a barrage of Los Angeles bands coming through town and taking names. Here's a quick night by night highlight of what is to come... How appropriate the fest begins on Halloween since there are lineups so good on this night it's scary. Heavens, the newish project from Alkaline Trio's Matt

After hearing so much about Ferraby Lionheart , I finally made it out to one of his shows. Last night's show, presented by Jax of Rock Insider , featured a great line up of music. Ferraby Lionheart has been getting some serious attention at the aforementioned Rock Insider and for good reason. He reminds me a lot of super star producer and master of the pop song Jon Brion. Very similar voice and very similar instrumentation. He knows how to write a good pop song and can back it up [...]

Ferraby Lionhart played an early show to people in the know at Piano's on Wednesday. I think you will be hearing more about this guy come CMJ. He sounds a little like Alex Greenwald of Phantom Planet but is more on the folk singer/songwriter wavelength. His tunes are catchy. Check them out and the review of the show at Product Shop . Don't forget to buy tickets to our CMJ-style show Nov. 3rd at Studio B in Brooklyn soon because they are going fast. Ferraby will be there! [...]
Well, that was fast. Ferraby's gone from unknown to beloved (by us) in a span of 24 hours. Impressive! After telling you to watch out for him, it was only fair for us to do the same -- and so...

OK OK I totally realize how lame it is to post the same frickin post two days in a row without adding any new information. I've been running around like a chicken with my head cut off this morning and havent had time to write an amazing MIND BLOWING Post. Hopefully this one will make you laugh, cry, and possibly skip over this site in your bloglines and go right to Good Hodgkins or something (great site BTW. You should read it). Here's a mixtape as penance. Hope you forgive my flagrant self-promotion. Come [...]
Let's face it, last week was loaded. We tried to make it out to everything but it just was not to be. So we had to prioritize... Maimou played their first L.A. show in two years so of course we had to be stagefront. We almost cried went they opened with "Bed Spins" and ended with "Wonkatania" (yes, that "Wonkatania"). It's a shame that it might be another few years until the next reunion, but

On October 24th Saddle Creek will be releasing Noise Floor, a collection of rarities and b-sides from Bright Eyes recorded between 1998 and 2005. "Amy In A White Coat" first appeared on the There Is No Beginning ep released in 2002. "I Will Be Grateful For This Day" was originally released through the Sub Pop singles club in 2001. I admit, I'm a bit biased to Bright Eyes. If he recorded a cover version of "Afternoon Delight" it would shoot straight to the top of my singles chart. [...]
[MP3] Ferraby Lionheart - Tickets to Crickets I'm pretty intrigued by this guy. So far he's just got an EP out, but simply judging from these songs, you'd assume he'd be around the indie rock block a few times, so to speak. He's weathered and confident, inspired and extremely talented. "Tickets to Crickets" rolls along a bouncy piano line like a leaf-blown brit pop ballad, with enough rustiness and recklessness to keep it homegrown. [MP3] Ivy League June [...]

If "Trains To Brazil" was the party, Ferraby Lionheart's " A Crack In Time " is the "I don't want to go home yet" 3 AM late-night Dennys meal with friends. Favorite tune of the summer thus far. OK, I get a lot of shit from people for living on the eastside - Particularly for living in Echo Park. Echo Park/Silverlake is definately the "Hipster" area of Los Angeles. It is the promise land for the American Apparel short short wearing, ironic moustache touting, 20-something-on-a-bike-with-a- journal-in-the-front-basket, "I don't need a fucking job," defective youth of Los Angeles. Does the fact that I live here make me a fucking hipster? Residents of Williamsburg (Brooklyn) and Haight Ashbury (San Fran) I know you feel me. I actually got in a heated argument of my sushi lunch (YES, I am [...]
