You know that first song you listen to from a band you have never heard of? It's the biggest first impression. It doesn't matter whether they have the most creative name or a thousand half-naked women on their profile pictures, if the first song sucks, they suck. That's not the case for Fez. I listened to this for the first time a few days ago and it was mandatory to put it on my playlist. Few other bands have had that power. I don't care if the rest of their album isn't up to par with "Low Light", anything half [...]

Fez is an indie rock band from London who channel the excitable bursts of energy of Modest Mouse mixed with the UK charm of Los Campesinos . Throw in a little Strokes and Wolf Parade, and you get the idea. If Modest Mouse and Fez were to tour together I think I might buy those tickets before a Jay-Z & Kanye West concert. The whole EP (and by whole EP, I mean the 3 songs) is great and we can expect some more buzz around these guys in 2011, so check them [...]

I call this a weekly roundup, but that's not really what it is. I'm just getting back in the swing of things and hopefully, today starts the triumphant return of my weekly "Radio Dick" posts, which used to cap off the week that was, honing in on all sorts of musings and tracks I was digging throughout the preceding seven days. I'm not so certain that's an easy task to pick back up on, but I've had my ears to the stereo a bit more this week, and that feels pretty good. Today includes some new things [...]
Given the volume of music available for consideration on One Track Mind, we invariably have to pass on a lot of tasty morsels. [tweetmeme] In a desire to share even more great, free music with you, the Sunday Sampler offers a handful of tracks without the usual critical and biographical write-up. Less talk, more tunes. These four guys from across the pond have got it all. Awesome tunes, and a guy with a beard. Let's be honest, all the great bands of the last 60 years would've been nothing without at least one bearded member. U2 had Edge, ZZ Top had....the tops, and The Carpenters had Karen. Fez have facial hair in at least four locations, quadrupling their chances for success. However, the primary factor would be their music, a sunny and disjointed affair that rambles through spiky punk-pop songs, four-way harmonies and choruses filled with the wit of Art Brut. [...]

Battersea, UK four-piece indie rock act Fez (maybe not the best name ever, but whatever) mix all sorts of classicist pop elements and the modern jangle of radio-friendly rock acts (Phoenix, Franz Ferdinand, et al. we're looking at you) in composing their pretty excellent EP, Hot Light, out this September. The band, who aren't lead-footed [...]

Fez are out of London. They sound really good! Nothing pretentiously indie about these dudes. It's just straight up indie. The guys are already doing something alright over there in the UK - they're getting some play on BBC and have already been written up on a few different music blogs. I got sent their stuff the other day...and their online PR dude who emailed me used Phoenix in the subject heading. I got kinda excited thinking that Phoenix had sent me some stuff or there was yet another Phoenix remix doing the rounds...but then I read [...]
This is the London band Fez . These guys ain't at SXSW, nor are they repped by a big mngmt. agency, but London's Fez sounds alright to these ears. Check out their songs 'Chemical' or "Low Light" or any of 'em actually - everything at the band's MySpace page sounds great. They list Talking Heads, Television, Battersea Park and Neil Young as influences. To me, that spells guitars. I like that. Here's what the Irish music blog IndieBands blog wrote about Fez in a recent gig: "The music lives up to expectations, as [...]

Not this... But them... Fez London United Kingdom London four piece Fez have already been recommended by the Devil's good friends over at MP3Hugger and they're always spot on. If you missed them they are uncomplicated straight up indie like your grandad used to love who make a decent racket on their secondhand ebay acquired equipment. [...]

Who : Fez from London, England. What : A four-piece who I've just been introduced to, starting to get some reactions online. I couldn't really find a bio online, or more about the band instead of listing the four players. Perhaps we should just start with a killer tune (in the one below)? Song : Lowlight .

I found an email in my inbox this morning simply stating that I "may like this band." Often i ignore these, but it was so simple and not full of the usual crap that I figured i'd make the effort. As such, it turns out Fez , outside of the reasonably woeful name, actually make simple, breezy and uplifting indie-pop tunes. Lowlight is probably the best example of said style. Hooky vocals lead into big pop choruses, vocal harmonies and breakdowns that are likely to be in your head for days. And all of it is written [...]

DVD REVIEW Sound of the Soul: The Fez Festival of World Sacred Music (Alive Mind) For eight days each June for the past 16 years, the city of Fez, Morocco, has teemed with musicians, dancers, and music lovers gathered for a unique celebration of sacred traditions. After a barren number of years something in my waters is telling me that England could be in 2010 about to leave us with a raft of vital new bands. Hope so, its just not fair leaving Sweden and the States with such a ridiculous burden. The first shaft of light comes from London 4-piece Fez who along with their 2nd hand ebay acquired equipment have amassed a tiny set of sparkling tunes. Said tunes arrived in my inbox about 24 hours ago and instantly set an overfed pulse racing. Those seeking the multi weaved genius of Grizzly Bear should [...]
(Indie Rock/Indie Pop/Alternative) British guitar pop music is never something i've been a huge fan of; I like it when it finds me, but i never find myself making a conscious effort to actually hunt it down or listen to it, let alone buy it. Fez (or their latest recordings) are currently in the process forcing me to rethink, and for that reason, they are definitely a first for me in that sense - even though they definitely aren't a first in any other. They draw elements of all the [...]
