Tonight there some serious rock in town. Really. Karmella's Game , AVEC , and Pash knock it off at the Ottobar while FFHH , Mean Machine , and Action Painters do it up at the Talking Head . Down in DC a great club happening is...happening at the 9:30 Club when Blisspop presents a DC Summer Extravaganza featuring Tittsworth , Will Eastman , Nadastrom , Bobby Jae and Ken Lazee , and Dmerit . Also bring back the yesteryears with [...]

Looks like a preview of summer is heading our way, with highs getting close to 90 in some places. The unexpected heat is not going to keep the weekend show line-up from happening. It's another full weekend, so I'm going to have to split it up into two posts. This one will cover Friday and those that also hit other places after Friday. Kings of Leon from band's myspace Quite a few big name acts start things Friday and [...]

When I saw the calendar for the weekend, I initially thought that Joe was out of his skull and put down shows for the wrong dates. Then after some quick fact checking, I found the truth. Every band and their mothers, uncles and 3rd cousins once removed are either coming back home from Austin or making the IA area the next stop on their East Coast swing. With so much to tell you about, it is best to break it up into two (or more) posts). Part One (this post) will focus on those performing on [...]

After some great weather and a holiday you either love or hate (damn you, St. Valentine!), winter is somehow still here. And since I got a new cable line wired into the apartment, so am I. Spring is just around the corner and bands are gearing up for the festival of festival in Austin. Yes, SXSW is only a month away. So prepare yourself for a veritable onslaught of bands fine tuning their shows before heading down Texas way. Papertrigger A few bands are [...]

Tonight in Baltimore there's a pretty fabulous line up at Fletcher's. E. Joseph and the Phantom Heart as well as Labianca, FFHH, Red This Ever, and Ms. Sara & The Help are performing. Not much else that I know about. Any suggestions? mp3: E. Joseph - Zero mp3: FFHH - The Body

With everyone going to or coming from CMJ in New York, the IA region has a ton of shows coming through the area. Not many multiple city stops to tell you about, but plenty of local and one-off shows. Toronto's Born Ruffians is one of the bands making multiple stops. They are on tour with fellow Canadians Plants & Animals . Friday, they take on DC at the Rock & Roll Hotel. For the remainder of the weekend, sBach joins the [...]

Tonight Baltimore's Talking Head has FFHH, E. Joseph, Red This Ever, and David Daniel. In DC the Velvet Lounge has Relay, Timberwolf Division, and Girl Loves Distortion. Up north in PA, the Fillmore at the TLA hosts Sonic Youth and The Hold Steady, Cafe M has The Swims and Perkasie, while the Wachovia center has NIN and Does It Offend You, Yeah?. mp3: Sonic Youth - Sugar Kane mp3: Relay - Context mp3: FFHH - The Body mp3: [...]

Baltimore's FFHH have been with us since the beginning. When I didn't know where to begin with the local scene, they were there for me and we did a lot of things together over the first year of this site. For the couple of you who have read IA since the beginning, you may remember this relic . Anyway... knowing how much I love The Cure, they recorded an exclusive cover of "Play For Today" for me. Thanks, guys! mp3: Play For Today (The Cure Cover)

I'm back from the beach and it's time for another weekend of shows. Plenty to see this weekend, so no excuses. XPN is having a little shindig on the Camden waterfront the entire weekend called the XPoNential Festival. Three Days, over Forty artists, great venue, what's not to like? A line-up of well-known artists intermixes with the best from the region. Some artists to see on Friday: Beth Orton, Alejandro Escovedo, Chuck Prophet, The Brakes, The Redwalls and The Wars On Drugs. Come back Saturday for Amos Lee, Nicole Atkins, The Spinto Band, O'Death, Cheers Elephant, and The [...]
