Oh, The Field Mice -- I thought it might be nice to share a few tracks with you this evening: The Field Mice - Between Hello & Goodbye Aw, pure sweetness tinged with melancholy. I love it so! The Field Mice -- The Last Letter This one kills me. Such a heartbreaker. I remember playing this over & over many a late night. The Field Mice -- Let's Kiss & Make Up [...]

The Final Top Ten! The results are in! First of all, I just want to thank all of you that contributed. I never expected to have that many nominations/votes, it was just fantastic! So thanks! But enough of that, below is the Top Ten you've all been waiting to see. You all chose these bands, and thusly, according to you, this is the Royal Court Of Twee ! If you're unfamiliar with these bands, or wondering why they , out of [...]

(Saint Etienne live in 1993, by dexter_mixwith ) I could also put this post in a Charity Shoppin' style deal: Hampstead's Oxfam yielded up a goodly number of bargains yesterday. But I'll concentrate on the CD purchase which interested me most (because although Blur's Great Escape and the Commitments soundtrack are lovely and nostalgic, they're not much new to me), Saint Etienne's Too Young To Die, a singles collection collating 1990-1995 in the world of Stanley, Wiggs et al. My first dalliance with Saint Etienne came around Christmas 1995 when I got the [...]

I've had a soft spot for twee for years, even when I didn't really know what it was. Belle & Sebastian, Camera Obscura - both have been long-time favourites, especially B&S. But a whole genre of sensitive, introspective, and beautiful guitar-pop? Yes, indeed! So I liked (no, loved) Belle & Sebastian, what next? Following the somewhat eccentric path of musical exploration (allmusic, acclaimed music, pitchfork, and a bazillion other sites), I was eventually lead to find the Twee As Fuck: The Joy of Kittenhood compilation. Having listened to the tracks ad nauseum, I started taking [...]

Fall is really cool. Especially zip-up sweatshirts and mittens I'm sure most of you have noticed that I haven't really been keeping up with this blog too well lately. Sure there's a post or so a day, but it's all been pretty lax and I'll be the first too admit it. I really want to get back into blogging like I used to, so I'm going to try to make more of an effort I guess, or something. It's still probably going to mostly indie-pop focused, as that's what I've been really [...]
H ere’s another Sarah Records release (#018 to be exact) that manages to capture the Sarah Records essence but take it in another direction than that taken by yesterday’s Action Painting! song. I think the common misperception of the label was that “all†of their releases were, well, wimpy and twee. That’s hardly the case as demonstrated here, the second Field Mice single that, as it just so happens, is another Ditching Boy favorite. I don’t think the band ever really matched this track ("Emma’s House" notwithstanding) as the rest of the material was just too inconsistent in [...]

(Ian MacCulloch, 6/8/05, by dopamine ) An unfortunate lack of inspiration this evening. I must be pining for Let's Kiss & Make Up. So my eyes rove and happen upon one of those old-fashioned plastic discs that seem so arcane and weird nowadays when surrounded by virtual music and the like. Charity shops are great, especially when they sell you Echo & The Bunnymen LP's. I've been listening to the reissued Icicle Works album recently, and they're of the same ilk as the Bunnymen - scouse neo-psychedelia with a leaning towards the hugely [...]
