With Maximo Park taking time off in between records lead singer Paul Smith has embarked on his own solo career. Recorded over a four year period with the help of Field Music's David Brewis on bass, "Margins" will be released on October 11th. Kasey prepared an asparagus frittata for a recent brunch party that we hosted for her birthday and despite some hesitation owing to my general dislike of asparagus, I really enjoyed the dish. And I know I wasn't alone - far from it in fact- as the entire frittata was quickly consumed by our guests, disappearing nearly as quickly as Kasey's immensely popular homemade cinnamon rolls . Having been to Bristol and Nottingham respectively for the last two days it is now the turn of Manchester to stage this event of music new and old.
Usually when I make these mixes, I'm either making the artwork the night before they're supposed to go up or waiting on whichever friend I've conned into doing the artwork for me. Either way, the actual mix is done. Not so this time. My friend Greg sent this to me last week and I built the mix around it. Pretty killer art, I think, clever, and not only screams Summer Fridays but also Sound Bites' food-and-music modus operandi.
