FEATURED ARTIST: FIELDS official site myspace [MP3] Fields - Song For The Fields [MP3] Fields - Heretic Someone sent me a copy of Fields EP (Or as they say in the UK - MINI-Album) 7 From The Village recently. I get a lot of packages in the mail and I don't know what possessed me to open this one. The CD had nothing more [...]
To say that London five-piece Fields are louder onstage than on record is a vast understatement. Their American debut 7 for the Village, which compiles a couple of British EPs, is a mix of pastoral folk with a heavy shoegaze...
I got sent this new single from Field Music a few weeks back. I gave it a listen and thought "yeah, pretty nice" and thought no more about it, however it's since creapt back into my CD player and i'm getting slightly hooked. Although intrinsically linked to local peers Maximo Park On', except that it ends far too soon for my liking. I'd have much preferred it's two and a half minutes to be

Fields are an international group with a knowledge of grassroots and bare bones rock. The members hail from various cities, racking up frequent flyer miles travelling between Birmingham, London and Reyjavik in order to cobble together the sounds that would become their first EP, 7 From The Village , which is out now on their own Black Lab Records. The band draws on inflences like Mazarin , Sufjan Stevens , Broadcast and Smog and I even hear a little Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young in there. [...]
Fields - Song for the Fields Just a quickie for today, but I've been listening to the new EP by the Fields a whole lot lately, and I think it is worth a mention here on a quiet, lazy Sunday afternoon. Fields are five friends from London: Nick Peill (Vocals/Guitar/Keyboards), Thorunn Antonia (Vocals/Keyboards), Henry Spenner (Drums/Vocals), Matty Derham (Bass/Keyboards/Vocals) and Jamie Putnam (Guitar). They make beautiful music together that reference 90s brit-pop, current large-band Canadian pop (ie BSS or Arcade Fire), and classic British folk. There's a near-perfect combination of twang and fuzz to the guitars that gave me...
It doesn't matter if you have only 1 reader or 1,000, if you have a blog you will be hit with hundreds of emails from bands looking for some love. Some times they can be a little too pushy, mass marketing their free albums and most of the time the results are sloppy and not really up my alley. But every once and awhile some catch my ear. So, I'm going to share with you three artists that in my opinion, have talent and a future. The first two are singer / song [...]

UK-based Fields are a tough band to pigeon hole. Is their music shoegaze? Folk? Both? And, if folk, what KIND of folk? Pastoral? Psychedelic? Both? And what about indie pop? Surely there's a bit of that in there as well. But again, what KIND? Sufjan indie pop? Arcade Fire indie pop? Both? Neither? All of the above? Good grief. Well, however the hell you want to label them, these four Brits (and one Icelander) create quite the agreeable amalgamation. The [...]
![[The Quick List & A Whole Lot of Otherwheres]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/239510_lg.jpg)
Now I don't know how long you've been a reader, but remember a while back when I posted a very short list of mp3s and entitled it The Quick List? Well its back, but now it's improved. Just like before, The Quick List is a great way for me to cover a handful of bands in just a single post and a great way for you to get your hands on a variety of artists in just one reading. It's almost like a mix, but instead of writing about the theme or what's posted as a whole, [...]

Music Marketing On a regular basis I receive music promos. Lot's of which I hate but to be fair, all deserve a fair listen. This leaves me at a frustrating ratio of about for every 10 bands, there is a decent one. A lot of bands will have albums with one or two good songs but seem like the rest of the album was very effortless. The Black Keys Not new to anybody, The Black Keys are [...]
Allow me to introduce you to a band that I was intrigued by from the moment I heard them a few days ago. It's always fun when I'm just surfing around the 'net and I inadvertently click on a link that takes me somewhere cool. In this particular case I was looking for Field Music's myspace, and stumbled on a band with a similar name. Hailing from England (just like Field Music), FIELDS is a five piece that mixes indie pop, folk, electronic blips and shoegazing atmospheres. Honestly, it's really cool sounding stuff. The band doesn't quite have a full [...]

Dizzee Rascal Ever thought that some songs just got too old too fast? Well, then you and RuinedMusic.com think alike, my friend. Usually associated with old relationships, the column writers on this blog really go in-depth on these stale, overplayed tunes. Check it out. Lil' Mike has some rare Coldplay . berkeleyplace has Dizzee Rascal remixing Beck . [...]

Thursday night was a hot one. Sold out in advance. A scrum for the few remaining tickets on the door. Bloc Party and their mates hanging around outside. Inside we couldn't get anywhere near the stage. However, the biggest clamour didn’t seem to be so much for the ostensible headliners Fields , but for Leeds band iLiKETRAiNS (that typography is going to annoy a lot of people in the future). iLiKETRAiNS are the perfect band to play at Sonic Cathedral , the shoegazing-revivalist club night at [...]
Fields / Fly Upright Kite Have two tracks today, one from Fields and one from Fly Upright Kite . Fields have been getting quite a bit of hype in certain circles recently. They seem to be getting big in england and will be on tour with Wolfmother in November. The Fields can be described as folk rock meets the big city. Fresh and fun. Good stuff. Fly Upright Kiteis also quality material except they make their home [...]

Here's on that's been rocking my sound system over the past few days: "Song For The Fields" by Fields. It has me hooked with that mad Madchester sound from the days of yore. Fields - Song For The Fields.mp3 It seems everyone in this band has an interesting background. For example, vocalist/keyboardist Thorunn hails from Iceland, her father composed the Icelandic National Anthem and she once made a living as a voice-over artist specializing in pixie and elf voices. Then, [...]
Now that I am home I can weed threw the inbox. These are all bands that contacted the Duke looking for some exposure. They either left me a link for downloading or have songs on their websites or myspaces. A brief description follows the track and * means Duke approved. The Colour ~ Devil’s Got A Holda Me (a rock song thru and thru)* Favourite Sons ~ Hang On, Girl (kinda like Nick Cave meets Artic Monkeys) [...]

The Fields have a new EP coming out, 7 from the Fields, which follows up the EP they put out last year, 4 from the Village. I was just sent the new EP in digital form, all on the Double Promise-Top Secret tip. Look at this... And they weren't playing with the fifteen minute window either. Made me nervous to even be there. Geez. They don't tell you whether you can DL them and repost, just a bunch of legal mumbo-jumbo that is completely out of context. And some [...]
.......... Okay, so in my former blogger life I focused primarily on music and plan to do so this go 'round as well. Like most, I absolutely love music! My former posts were all wiped clean, by me, as a way to prevent myself from feeling obligated to turn back and continue posting. Catholic guilt or something. Ahh but here I am anyway and bloody hell that I no longer have my former shiz waiting out there for me in net land. Anyway, where were we? Music, right, well [...]
Below a few (and pretty good) tracks that I've received in the mailbox over the past few days or been notified were available at Myspace! + Du Pacque - Dedicated New track from (what really should be) everyone's new favorite Swedish band! + Avocadoclub - The Realist Short and very energetic! + The Fields - Song For The Fields Cool indie/folk track! I'm still working my way through lots of new
Having admiration for Pitchfork columnists, whilst having a general antipathy for the review section of the publication, is a bit like saying that you like the personal finance and small business columns and feature writing in the Wall Street Journal , but really can't stand their editorial board. Which, ok, um, I say all the time -- so maybe that's not the best comparison. Like saying you like Maureen Dowd but find the stringers in the Times ' newsroom the most loathsome creatures on the planet? Something like that. Anyway. I have a point. And [...]
