A familiar face appears through the crowd of happily bedraggled Sunday night (well, Monday morning, technically) festival casualties. His face is all grin and beard, and he draws apart the curtains of my delightfully dismembered reality and hops nimbly in. My friend and I put our arms around his shoulders. 'You're the interdimensional wizard from last year!' I cry. He nods, and we lean in to hear what he has to say. 'I firmly believe,' he smiles, 'that we are seeing the beginnings of a brand new civillisation, right here, right now. And the first thousand years or so are [...]

The Field remixes Junior Boys' track, 'Banana Ripple', off their new album, It's All True . I've been impatiently waiting for some new Field material and this remix definitely helped ease my tension. The original 9min album closer is taken and compressed into a bass pounding passer by that repeats and navigates throughout a totally new sounding track. Down below is a low quality rip of the remix you can download or stream in better quality on Domino Records soundcloud . Purchase the 12" here . [...]

Great remix of "Banana Ripple" by Field in anticipation of the June 14th release of Its All True . Looking forward to June 24th when the Junior Boys are at the Metro here in Chicago. Junior Boys - Banana Ripple (Field Remix) by DominoRecordCo

Despite being heralded as Britain's 'most musical city' just last year, discounting the innumerable dub/ragga/2-step/house/disco DJs (delete as appropriate, or just genre-hop as they mostly seem to do anyway) that the West Country hub boasts "bands" come at a premium. And were you to subtract those affiliated with Geoff Barrow's fabled Invada Records, there seem to be about as many even vaguely distinctive bands out and about as there will be yobbos at Primavera Sound this weekend. Not very many, and probably not enough... Potentially to play said Catalan bash this time twelve months down the line are [...]
JUNIP(Indie Rock)Gonna keep it short and sweet this week. Here's a really nice soulful track to start us off. It's called "Without You", and it comes from Junip's 2010 LP Fields. Some interesting melodic twists in this one. I especially like the vocals and synthy breakdown in the middle. Enjoy the song, let me know whatcha think.(Click play to listen!) Masquer es una banda de Estocolmo, que después de sacar algunas rolas hace más o menos un año y medio, están de regreso con "Happiness". Una rola que remezcló nada más y nada menos que The Field. Acá dejo las dos, enjoy. ♩ Masquer - Happiness ♩ Masquer - Happiness (The Field Remix)

All's well that ends well. Sure, it rained all week, but it's nice and sunny outside with just a tiny nip in the air. Naturally, that means it is time to party down while we still can. This weekend, especially, is a doozy. There are so many great shows that it is almost impossible to choose among them. Some of the shows we're all abuzz over are Gypsyblood at Liar's Club , Dead Milkmen at Congress Theater and Local H at the Metro . Let's hop to it, [...]

http://fielded.bandcamp.com/ / Facebook You'll know if you read this blog that I'm very much into experimental enchantresses who sing post-apocalyptic tales (maybe it's because Fallout is one of my favourite games?) with a mystical and gothic tinge, my latest discovery from that realm is Fielded who (and I'm quoting a PR release) is the solo project of Ga'an front-woman and vocalist, Lindsay Powell, from Chicago. Fielded isn't just another Zola Jesus or another dark, brooding miserablist who's spent a lifetime listening to Kate Bush and Bjork records, She exhibits on [...]

In the age of the incredibly shrinking, high-capacity mp3 player and numerous online music stores, independent artists are flocking to an unthinkable medium to get their music to the masses: the cassette tape. Chicago is at the forefront of a subculture that is hitting the mainstream after an explosion of local cassette labels in town. These labels serve as curators by catering to audiences and artists alike with eye-catching visuals and high production values that can only be rivaled by the original preferred format, vinyl, but at a fraction of the cost. [...]

After writing my post on Walls the other day , I found a remix by The Field. This lead me to scour the internet for more remixes by The Field and decide that his music is the greatest techno ever. My love affair started back in late 2008, when I listened to his work for this first time. It was the excellent Yesterday and Today and one of the few records which I have instantly fallen in love with. He has a extremely unique sound, looping tiny parts of samples or other people's songs and putting a 4/4 [...]
Ander - Fields I had some wild dreams last night and this new Ander song "Fields" would have been a great soundtrack. Today, digital label BEKO... (Visit my blog for more!)
Last year brought us the great news of Junip's reunion and a new album. Fields turned out to be a very nice extension of what we had already been enjoying from Jose Gonzalez with the added bonus of the full band sound. Now we are graced with a new digital-only EP for the opening track from Fields which features two remixes as well as three previously unreleased b-sides, "Näckrosdammen", "Pling", and "White Rain". The video for "In Every Direction" was directed by drummer Elias Araya who [...]

After long last and many feeble attempts, there is finally a credible contemporary homage to the glory days of British shoegaze. In the last few years we have seen an influx of indie-pop bands try (and fail, miserably) to recreate the sound of late 80's/early 90's alternative rock.(yes, I'm looking at you Glasvegas. Leave The Jesus & Mary Chain alone!). However, 2011 seems to have found an authentic revitalisation of this old sound, yet it exists with a tasteful modern touch. Allow me to introduce TOWNS. dirty beaches - "lord knows best" (download) I've really been digging this song lately. It's got sort of a lo-fi David Lynch / Magnetic Fields / Guided By Voices vibe to it. Dirty Beaches is just one guy, Alex Zhung Hai from Vancouver, BC. He has numerous self-released CR's, split 73s, cassettes, and now has his next full length Badlands dropping on March 29. website

Swedish indie folk band Junip have released " Näckrosdammen," the first new track from their forthcoming EP. The vocal-less song is composed of delicate layers of synth, hypnotic drums, and a simple guitar melody, and its twinkling overtones and sway-inducing rhythm give it a dreamy sound. The band met and began playing together in the late '90s in Gothenburg, Sweden, but they did not release their first full-length effort, Fields , until this past September. Their upcoming EP is set to include "In Every Direction" from that album. Junip is currently on tour in Europe, but they'll be heading to [...]

Fielded 's Lindsay Powell hangs out on the balconies of a galactic parliament chamber, singing out a monologue over the epic processional music accompanying the opening of a new session of the star chamber. Hidden behind a Venetian mask and shrouded in a black cloak Broadcast's shadow looms over the ensuing ritual. Fielded - Late Come to Stay Late Come to Stay is taken from a four track 73 on Sophomore Lounge Records available on March 1st. Lindsay is also a member of Ga'an whose album 20JFG have [...]

White Death is Fielded's first release since Terrageist that came out on Catholic Tapes, this is the first I've ever heard of the band and I was pretty blown away by their track "White Death" With focus on her breathy voice, you get the sense that there is something gentle and primitive about her. She sounds a lot like the dreamy pop of girls like Warpaint and Fever Ray, but a little more strange. The pressing is limited to 250 copies, you can preorder it HERE via Sophomore Lounge.
