Via Tom, via vivaelbirdos.com . From The Ed Sullivan Show , Denny McLain (star Tigers pitcher) and Bob Gibson (star Cardinals pitcher) doing a bubbly, jazzy version of "The Girl from Ipanema." I really don't know what I did with my day before YouTube. Now, at least they have more rhythm than the 1986 L.A. Dodgers -- a.k.a. the "Baseball Bunch Boogie": I can't find footage of Jack McDowell's band Stickfigure, or else I'd post that too. [...]

Off Broadway hosted PBR Me in St. Louis on Saturday night. The show featured Clownvis Presley, the Humanoids, the Livers, Trip Daddys and lots of other shenanigans. Find your favorite band member/scene denizen/ RFT writer (wink, wink) in the following slideshow. CLICK HERE !
(Me, with my vintage WMMS T-shirt. 100.7 FM is Cleveland's legendary classic rock/new music station.) I'm a firm believer that you can never truly know a person until you know from whence they come. And as everyone knows, I'm a Cleveland gal, loud and proud, born and raised. I have so much Ohio pride, in fact, that I still have my driver's license from there, and it's paining me to buck up and get a Missouri license in the coming weeks. (Hi, St. Louis cops! Don't pull me over!) Like the [...]

El sábado que viene, Desparrame cerrará la Semana Grande donostiarra en la sala Doka con directo y dj set de los inigualables Ricus y traca final de rompepistas de K**O . El cartel oficial: y el nuestro: [...]
The Police played its last show at Madison Square Garden last night. Brooklynvegan has a lot of cool details -- such as the fact that "during the encore, the video screens showed Sting backstage, shirtless, getting his full beard shaved by two women while crew members shined his shoes and Stewart kissed him!" -- and a video of "Message in a Bottle" with the NYPD marching band. Awesome.
(Written by Christian "Computer Love" Schaeffer) Today is one of those numerically magical dates: 08/08/08. It comes around once every one hundred years, and this century we're using it to kick off the Olympics in Beijing. While that's all well and good, music geeks worldwide are using today to celebrate the Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer drum machine , arguably the most famous drum machine ever made and an irreplaceable piece of electronic music history. The 808 can be heard on countless hip-hop and R&B songs from the [...]

(Selected and written by Ryan Wasoba) 5. "One More Minute" Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =r41U_T7pQjQ With journalistic integrity in mind, I must admit that I once "performed" this song at a lip-syncing contest when I was nine. I won second place to a production of Bert and Ernie's "Rubber Ducky," complete with shower caps and a fake cardboard bath tub. This may have been my first experience with heartbreak, a concept that Weird Al [...]
Better than: Watching Tom Petty videos on YouTube. Tom Petty could run for president – and win – in November. That's the conclusion I came to sometime during the nearly two-hour Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers show at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater last night. Fans cheered wildly and reverentially at anything the 57-year-old rocker did – whether he was destroying set opener "You Wreck Me," thanking the crowd profusely for its kindness or simply standing still . Yes, at one point Petty just stood onstage [...]
Alice Cooper plays the Pageant tonight; check out our review of the show tomorrow. In the meantime, please check out these vintage vids of Cooper performing on one of my favorite shows, The Muppet Show . Watching these, I can't believe my parents let me watch this show when I was a tot -- although it becomes quite clear why I'm so weird today. "Welcome to My Nightmare": "School's Out": [...]

I'm feeling under the weather, so I might have to stay in tonight to rest up for tomorrow's big Petty show, but if I rally, I'll probably head to Off Broadway. Why? Well, the Stag Nite All-Stars will be performing the music of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. This all-star team includes Racketbox, Bad Folk, MAID*RITE Johnny Vega$ and more! See the flyer.

Esperamos poder colgar [...]
It's no secret that A to Z loves Danzig. (He loves St. Louis, too: Why, his cassingle wrote last year's Best Used CD store entry, for CD Reunion .) And with the announcement that Danzig and Dimmu Borgir are co-headlining the Pageant on Sunday, October 26, this is the perfect time to reminisce about Danzig posts of yore -- while adding to the list. (Literally; check after the jump.) * Danzig endorses Barack Obama * Danzig + Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie" = Pure Comedy Gold [...]
My pal Jason found a bunch of these ads online, featuring 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G., Wu-Tang Clan and more. They're amazing. Check them all out here ; a sample taste is below.

The Toadies are in town tonight, reunited and on the verge of releasing a new album called No Deliverance . ( Preview here .) Over the last few weeks, the amount of unabashed love and affection for the band has, frankly, astounded me. I only knew the Dallasites from the stab-my-ears-out single "Possum Kingdom," (and to a lesser extent, "Away" and "I Come From the Water") from the 1990s, and had no idea its fan base was still so rabid and loyal. I've been asking around, though, in an attempt [...]
The Black Kids are one of the more hyped bands around the Internet right now. Hailing from Jacksonville, Florida, the co-ed quintet combines lush '80s synthpop, schoolyard hip-hop sass, golden-age soul and girl-group pizzazz. Nevertheless, critical reaction to the band's debut CD, Partie Traumatic , has been somewhat-muted. Pitchfork gave the album a 3.3 -- and the entire review consisted of a picture of two cute pugs along with the phrase "Sorry :-/" Perhaps the lukewarm reaction stems from the album's lyrics, which range from puzzling ("This jungle is massive, so [...]
My homeslice Chris Gray in Houston did a comprehensive video post looking at Todd Rundgren 's production and recording life. But since Rundgren will be dropping in at the Pageant tonight here in town, I thought I'd see his YouTube gems and add a few more -- after the jump. Feel free to email or comment with other gems as well. Psychedelic Furs' "President Gas," live in London 1982 (taken from 1982's Forever Now ) [...]
Hot off the YouTube presses on July 17, a video of the Flaming Lips on the Fox2 News morning show from 2000, in advance of its Firehouse show. The band performs "Waiting for a Superman" and front man Wayne Coyne suffers through a hilarious interview about 90210 and SNL .

(from wartheband.com ) When the Latin-funk-rock band War takes the Live Off The Levee stage on Saturday night, listeners no doubt will expect to hear many of the group's familiar songs from the 1970s. However, the group that will be pumping out renditions of tunes such as "Low Rider," "Why Can't We Be Friends," and "All Day Music" will feature just one musician who was part of War in their hit-making days. Keyboard player and singer Lonnie Jordan is the only original [...]
(by me, taken in Off Broadway's ladies bathroom) This Saturday sees a reunion of sorts for the Treeweasels , a long-ago St. Louis group. Says Roy Kasten in this week's paper : [The Treeweasels] sounded like a punky, countrified R.E.M. with some Pere Ubu singles melted over their four-track, though they couldn't really be bothered to be oblique. Singer E.J. Fitch never met an ironic sneer he couldn't twist into a good-natured hook, guitarist Scott Roever burned every cease-and-desist order from Roger McGuinn and Mick Ronson, and drummer Danny Kathriner [...]
