Despite the somewhat rebellious weather, Glastonbury pulled off another great year of live music and contemporary arts. My Glastonbury story began with an impromptu email fired off to the Emerging Talent Competition asking if they needed another blogger as a judge for this year's competition. As I was a judge on the Glastonbury Emerging Talent contest I am privileged to have a pass for this weekend's Glastonbury festival. The organiser's of this year's Belsonic , in association with ABSOLUT Vodka, have announced the addition of two final headline acts for 2011. Tinie Tempah and DJ / Producer Tiësto join the bill at Belfast's biggest outdoor music event this summer, alongside an array of supporting acts. There's lots of great Irish artists I've excluded from my list due to not releasing any material in the last year and a bit. I am always troubled when "alt-rock" is used to describe a band. I mean, what exactly is the difference between "rock" and "alt-rock", is "alt-rock" when "traditional" rock goes mental? If yes, I suppose "alt-rock" works as a label for synth-based Fight Like Apes from Dublin. Fight Like Apes rock a sound that can't exactly be defined by modern genres. Maybe it's punk, maybe it's electro-pop, maybe it's indie rock - as soon as you find yourself settling on a buzzword, the next song comes along and blows the label clean off.
